Whatever will we do?

Alfarinn set down the bags just to the side of the entrance, barely having time to scoop them up before Thaddeus pulled him towards the apartment. He still had not been able to erase the grin from his face at his companion's haste. Feeling an equal excitement at the thought of finally have a few moments of privacy with the Anantya.

Now that they were out of the public eye once more, He leaned against the door and regarded his companion with a smirk.

"So here we are two people, alone in an apartment, at night, eternally in the prime of our lives... hmm He paused, hand rubbing his chin thoughtfully, eyes glinting with mischief.

"How about a nice game of chess?"

Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus tilted his head to one side, regarding Alfarinn apprehensively. The Evenhet's solution for better protecting the apartment was a good one, but the fact that the other man seemed so focused on Thaddeus's safety specifically was somewhat concerning. As unpleasant as it was to think about, he knew that both of them faced some risk in this, and he did not like the idea of Alfarinn worrying over Thaddeus's well being at the expense of his own.

His mind might have taken him further in that dark direction if not for the reassuring kiss, which he leaned into, once again comforted by the fact that they could talk about the difficulties ahead and still share this closeness. He even smiled a bit at the mental image of Alfarinn kissing a monitor.

He raised an eyebrow at the mention of Alfarinn's training, and resolved to fetch his own sword from the Manor. He was willing to bet they could show each other a thing or two. Perhaps Alfarinn would even take an interest in the fencing gear Thaddeus had brought from the Manor.

Yes, bring your sword in particular, and I shall bring mine. It has been some time since I have had an opportunity to practice true sword combat, though I remain in good form for fencing.

This was, if Thaddeus was to be honest with himself, somewhat of an understatement. Fencing was, in his eyes, his natural talent that dated back to his days as a human and he took some amount of pride in his skill in the art.

However, I think something a bit more...practical might suit better, and up close. Something I can carry subtly. I would have to look into the matter more closely, perhaps see what might be available and what feels like a good fit.

Cameras in the entryway would be reasonable. He smirked, brushing off his misgivings about the apartment security for the time being. I shall just have to ensure I keep my hands off you until we make our way to the bedroom.

Thaddeus flicked his eyes downward, remembering how not so long ago the two men had kissed each other senseless against the front door. He found himself smiling when he looked back up to meet Alfarinn's eyes.

Quite a list we are making here. And let us not forget the chess set.

Alfarinn grinned and looked at his companion in surprise. "The peaceful dove knows how to fight? I am shocked." He could imagine Thaddeus fencing and bet that it was a beautiful thing to watch, his companion was grace personified... most of the time, and irresistible those times he was not. "I will bring both but I don't know how to fence. Except making wooden ones to keep in livestock... though I don't recall never using a sword for that."

"You will probably make me look thoroughly clumsy."

Alfarinn pondered the modern weapons arsenal in his head for a moment. "Perhaps a taser though I'd suggest as high voltage as we can find. Some of our kind are remarkably un phased by such things." He was relieved that Thaddeus seemed agreeable to at least cameras in the entrance and he smiled at the downward glance and the reminder of the evening's earlier events.

"See, if we had the chess set all of this wouldn't have happened..." Alfarinn couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of that statement or the mental image of them declining to do anything more risque than sacrificing a queen. "Perhaps... we shouldn't get a chess set."

Thaddeus smirked at Alfarinn's mock reluctance to get a chess set. He thought playing chess seemed a pleasant way to spend an evening together, though it admittedly did not quite compare to...other activities.

Bowing out of the challenge are you? Very well, I'll not hold you to it.

He gave the other man a playful squeeze on the arm.

It seems we find other ways to occupy ourselves fairly well in any case.

As for knowing how to fight...I can hold my own if I must. Being a Nightsman taught me that much, you know how it can be. Though it is the artistic side of combat that interests me. Matching skills with a respected and honorable opponent holds a unique exhilaration.

Thaddeus smiled, fondly remembering sparring with his father. One of the more significant milestones of his life had been the first time he had emerged victorious from such an exercise, but both before and after he surpassed his teacher's skill, there was no one he enjoyed competing with quite as much. Simply watching Alexander Grey fence was an amazement of its own; the man was nearly otherworldly in his powerful grace.

That is, of course, not what we are dealing with currently. I am not opposed to using what is most effective in this case.

Feeling vaguely disturbed by the thought of what measures they may have to take, Thaddeus fell quiet, looking out the window and listening to the sounds of early traffic. After a moment, he turned, kissed Alfarinn softly on the chin, and reluctantly rose to his feet. He closed the curtains to shut out the impending dawn and wandered into the bathroom, barely paying attention to the task of picking up the scattered clothing. He ran his fingers over the red cord hanging on a hook beside the medicine cabinet, touching the jade turtle lightly with his fingertips. Walking back into the bedroom, he paused by the wardrobe and decided he was not feeling particularly inclined to wear anything to bed today.

He returned to Alfarinn's arms, pulling the other man close, when a thought occurred to him.

I should not have presumed. Can you stay?
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn gasped in mock indignation. "Bowing out of a challenge? I assure you, Mr Grey, I will show you no quarter, no matter how distractingly lovely you look lost in thought."

He nodded agreement at Thaddeus's reasons for enjoying sword play. " I believe that a pair of skilled fighters sparring for the sake of competition is a beautiful thing to behold. I'd love to watch you fence and not simply because I enjoy watching you. Though, this would also be true." Alfarinn winked at Thaddeus and lay back on the bed. He noticed his companion gaze drifted off towards the window, every bit as charming with that far away gaze as he had predicted just a moment before.

Smiliing at the kiss, He watched Thaddeus close the curtains and heard him as he wandered about in the adjoining room. Alfarinn lay peacefully enough, drifting in his own thoughts. There was no reason to let the required precautions rob them of what few chances of peace they had, it was simply necessary to take actions that would keep them as safe as possible through this situation.

Sighing in contentment when Thaddeus climbed back in the bed and pulled him close, Alfarinn almost missed the question. He wasn't sure when the relaxed state had become something closer to drowsy but his eyes had drifted shut just a moment after Thaddeus was next to him again.

"I believe you'd have a hard time getting me to leave. Though I suppose if you want me to go, then I can. Though you help me sleep." Alfarinn smiled faintly. "Ok, truthfully I sleep like a rock once I'm there but you do make it more pleasant."

Thaddeus smiled somewhat ruefully, knowing he was not exactly what anyone would call an ideal sleeping partner. There was precious little he could do about that, and could only wish for respite for both their sakes. He would not take offense if Alfarinn found he preferred to sleep elsewhere, though he found that he, too, slept better in this man's company.

Rather than worry about things he could not control, which would only provide more ammunition for his subconscious mind and keep him awake longer, he stroked Alfarinn's hair and whispered softly in his ear.

Sleep, then. I will try not to wake you.

Thaddeus slipped an arm around Alfarinn, continuing to stroke his hair. He did not know when he could expect sleep to come; though tonight's activities had left him more than content, the feeling was combined with an energizing elation that ran like a current just under the surface of his sleepiness. Combined with that were thoughts of what the next day would bring.

Still, there was no reason his companion should suffer for Thaddeus's ways. Alfarinn looked so peaceful now, his eyes part way closed, hair fanning out on the blankets, close and content. Thaddeus felt he could stay this way for hours, simply watching him. 'After all', he reasoned, his cheeks going red at the memory of Alfarinn's earlier compliments, 'I rather enjoy watching him as well.'

Alfarinn smiled faintly and lazily ran a hand over Thaddeus's back.

"You'd have to -try- to wake me in most cases. Don't worry, you won't bother me, in fact its comforting to know you're here to wake me if you wanted to."

He moved closer to Thaddeus and tucked his head against his companion's shoulder. With a content sigh, he closed his eyes and immediately began to feel the call of slumber. Alfarinn roused himself enough to make certain that his statement was understood. " Don't hesitate to wake me, for any reason. I'd rather be awake with you than sleeping, it just eventually wins the battle."

Kissing the shoulder he was resting against, Alfarinn whispered one last thing.

"Sweet dreams"
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus would prefer not to wake Alfarinn up, unintentionally or otherwise, and would have said as much, if not for the fact that the other man seemed so tired, and looked so peaceful and relaxed. Thaddeus elected to leave conversation at the door for the moment; they could always revisit the topic if Alfarinn changed his mind.

Instead, he held Alfarinn close as the other man drifted off to sleep, smiling at his last sleepy murmur. He kissed the Evenhet's forehead, very softly, and reflected that days like this were to be cherished. Watching Alfarinn sleep in his arms was fulfilling in a way he had never imagined. Eventually, he closed his eyes and did his best to clear his thoughts, though loose threads seemed to beg to be toyed with. Musings about the future would bring him to no conclusions today, and he let worries both spoken and unspoken rest at last as he, too, fell into sleep.

He seemed to remember waking up once, perhaps twice, though he could not recall what might have disturbed him. He was not long in falling back asleep either time, though he could not quite resist running his hand gently through Alfarinn's hair before sleep overtook him once more.
