Eliminating the Im-paws-ible (private)

A memory is what is left when something happens and does not completely unhappen. ~Edward de Bono

Mara looked around her apartment with something approaching satisfaction, although in truth she was highly unsatisfied. She had revised her plans several times already, making last minute changes and fixing minute little details that probably didn't matter but to her seemed like glaring problems.

She was more than aware of the fact that it was mostly nerves speaking. She had never, since buying this building, invited anyone but Amir to visit. She'd never wanted anyone that close. But it was Valentine's Day and she was looking forward to celebrating it. Still, what would Jin think?

This was hardly a gift; if she looked at her motives too closely she might see that it was somewhat selfish of her to have planned like this. Should she have arranged for something more formal? Dinner out? A party? Jin was so much more outgoing than she; maybe this wasn't his idea of fun at all.

Mara had wanted a night alone with him though, something that was just for them to share. She had done her best to mingle things they both enjoyed. Her gifts to him were small ones; the key to her cellar doors, which she realized he didn't need, yes, but she wanted to give to him; the dinner she'd worked to create which neither of them required but she'd thought would be enjoyable to share; the invitation to stay the day most of all, which she wasn't sure he'd want to do but Mara had fallen asleep curled up next to Jin several times now and she loved the feeling.

She wanted to feel that here, in her place, so that when he was gone perhaps a ghost of him would remain and she would always feel him there.

She looked around the dimly-lit area. Mara had very few lights in her apartment; there were, instead, a number of LED 'candles' here and there adding light where it was needed. Tonight, she'd hung three or four of her little glass mobiles from the ceiling, a blue LED light topping each so that the glass reflected the light and scattered colored prisms all over the ceiling like starlight. She didn't know if she'd keep them up but she liked the effect.

She had checked the time repeatedly; it had been a few hours since setting her trail in place. She didn't think Jin would have trouble finding her so he should be there soon. Dinner was ready; it was the sort of thing that would keep. Both that and dessert had been successful with some cook books and a few days' practice. It was too late to change any plans now. Hopefully she'd gotten at least some of the details right.

Mara turned down the music (a CD of classical acoustic guitar) so she could listen for noise downstairs. With any luck Jin would be there soon.

Jin paused his hands and looked up at her in question. Gasps were something that could be hard to interpret until you knew your partner's sounds and desires. He glanced up into a reassuring smile. Jin returned it with arched eyebrows. His hands resumed moving, adding the occasional light pinch now that he realized she enjoyed it.

His ardor was echoed, not shied away from. Jin leaned back enough to watch Mara. Her hair fell gloriously tousled over her shoulders, her lips parted slightly, wet and swollen from their embrace, her body moved, golden and graceful as she rode him.

"You are so beautiful."

Jin circled his arms around her, pulling her close. Her relentless rhythm was taking its toll on him, pushing him steadily over the edge with each deep thrust and grind of her hips. He gasped, his eyes closing as he tried to master himself for a little longer.

It was his longing to see her that was his undoing. Jin opened his eyes again, watching Mara in a similar state of feverish need. It was too much, all of his holding back was abandoned. He cried out in ecstasy, holding her tightly, as he was rocked with wave upon wave of pleasure. The intesity of his release was shocking, he moaned with the violence of it. Jin leaned his head against her chest, completely spent. He held onto her, sated and happy, content to hold her close, her warm skin against his own, the scent of their lovemaking around him and the love for her filling his heart.

Mara moaned, softly at first, and then a bit louder as Jin's hands continued to work over her breasts, caressing, touching, pinching here and there which added an insanely erotic little shockwave that seemed to travel throughout her body. She hadn't known that when you had love and security, ferocity could be gentle and savagery could be tender. Jin might be intense, he might be passionate and fierce, but he was never violent in his affections. It was vastly different from Mara's earliest memories, memories which equated this act with the sounds of flesh hitting flesh with bruising and bone-breaking force.

Mara looked down at Jin as his dark eyes met hers and she sighed, a sound that would have been happy if it weren't half-whimpered with desire. His words barely reached her ears through the haze of desire and near-climax she felt herself lost in but when they did she bent to him, still moving rhythmically on top of him, and kissed him deeply again.

He closed his eyes when she broke away and she did briefly as well, involuntarily as she felt the newly-familiar sensation of release reach up with silken fingers and grab her. Mara threw her head back a moment, her arms clutching at Jin, giving a soft little cry of delight as those tremors from earlier once again slammed into her.

Her voice matched his and she felt every muscle in his body tense as he felt the same amazing explosions as she. She could feel him swelling and pulsing inside of her even as she contracted involuntarily, delightfully, around him. The feeling created a series of fireworks behind her eyelids as she closed them briefly again.

When the lights cleared she was still straddled across Jin's lap; his arms were wrapped around her and his head rested against her chest. She tried to catch her breath, leaning down to rest her head atop Jin's, her arms still wrapped around his neck.

"I didn't know," she said, just a few inches from his ear. "I didn't know it was supposed to be like that. Thank you."

Those were the only words she could formulate for the next few minutes, for she closed her eyes and cuddled against him, as utterly drained as Jin appeared to be.

Jin smiled and nuzzled against Mara, the only movement he was currently willing to make. He sighed happily, before he spoke, answering her statement.

"Yes, like this, every time. I promise you, Amaret, it will be like this."

He couldn't promise he would always perform as well, and he couldn't promise that it would always be as good but he could guarantee that it would always be enjoyable. He would make sure of that.

"I should thank you." Jin leaned back a little and grinned up at her. "You did the driving."

Leaning them both backward, he rested against the pillows with Mara on top of him. He kissed her gently, his smile still not faded. "You can take me out for a ride any time you like."

He was content, comfortable, and loved. Jin's sigh transformed into a yawn. He nestled down further in the pillows. "I think further feline adventures will involve napping." Jin smiled and squeezed her gently. "So do I get to use you as a pillow this time?"

Mara felt rather than heard the solemnity of the promise in Jin's voice and it moved her. She tightened her arms around him and nuzzled his pale, tousled hair lovingly. As he leaned them both back she laughed softly at his well-earned good mood and said, "It was definitely a mutual effort."

She was hardly going to take all the credit for either round of lovemaking. Mara slid away from him, regretting the feel of losing that intimate connection between them but secure in the knowledge that at a later date she would experience it again. With that knowledge, though, came the reminder that she had promised to tell Jin certain things about her past that he might find unappealing. Well, now was the time for rest and she wasn't going to spoil his sleep or hers with such memoirs.

At the foot of her bed was a light blanket; it was cozy atop the soft comforter and Mara saw no need to burrow under it when they were warming each other for the moment. Reaching down with her foot she hooked the blanket and dragged it up, spreading it over herself and Jin, making sure her tired tiger was thoroughly tucked in.

"Definitely nap time," she agreed, "and pillow, blanket, however you choose, I'm all yours."

Mara wrapped herself around Jin, pulling him close, shifting so that she was slightly higher up on the pillow than he was and slipping her arm beneath him. Her other arm went across him as did one leg and she embraced him comfortably, holding him lovingly as she lowered her own head down to rest just above his. The hand that wasn't cradling his head lifted to stroke his hair for a few moments, fingertips gently tracing the silhouette of his face in the dim light.

"I will see you when you wake, Jing," she said, "and perhaps, if I'm truly fortunate, when you sleep as well."

If she had any place in Jin's dreams, no matter how small, Mara would feel special.

Jin curled up, placing his head on Mara's shoulder, settling comfortably after she pulled a blanket over them both. He wrapped his arms around her, snuggling close in her embrace. He suspected that he would sleep all the better for Mara's presence and hoped that she felt the same.

"You will definitely be in my dreams."

She had been already. He did not always remember them but Jin woke up many nights with Mara already on his mind. The first thought on his mind when he woke.

"Hopefully I will meet you in yours and we can dream together."

He traced a finger lightly across her side, lazily drawing designs on her skin. Eventually the movement slowed and he tucked his arm around her once more. Jin's eyes closed with a weary but happy sigh. His voice was quiet and sluggish with drowsiness.

"I love you."

He wanted it to be the last thing he said before drifting off to sleep.

Mara smiled into Jin's tangled hair and kissed him, holding him close. She imagined, lying so close as he was, he could probably hear the fact that his words caused her heart to pound for a few seconds. "I love you too."

She wondered if the words would ever lose their magic. Maybe. She hoped not; she liked saying them.

It didn't take long for Jin to fall asleep. She could hear his slow breathing grow even slower and his body relaxed completely as he slept snuggled in her arms under the blanket. She fought off sleep herself a little while longer, enjoying the feel of being wrapped around him and wanting to experience it for a while more. Eventually, though, sleep claimed her too.

There was more lovemaking later on, when they both awoke reaching for each other. Under the warmth of Mara's blanket Jin certainly upheld his promise to her, making her glad she didn't have any neighbors. Or thin walls. And a mat in the shower for traction.

Jin didn't leave the next evening. Or the evening after that. In fact, aside from a run or two out to get whatever struck their fancy they spent several blissful days in the quiet of Mara's little apartment. When they were worn out from physical activity there was plenty to do; Mara had many games in the cabinet beneath her book case; strategy games, board games, and trivia games. And, of course, there was her workshop downstairs where she somewhat shyly showed him exactly what she did in her free time and how she did it.

When Jin finally did leave for the Manor, he took Mara with him.
