Batteries for Wesley (open)

Wesley had been to the library in the morning just after the meeting with his electrical engineering instructor Professor Wahts. He had his laptop with him, but the damn died on him in the library, it was the third time in just over a week.

"God I hope it's just the battery and not the hard drive,"Â? he thought.

He hadn't planned to spend the day on the strip looking for a battery replacement but that was task. There were two Electronics stores close to each other so the prospects looked good.

"Not sure I understand what you consider fun? As for history am really quiet interested in many ages. I like the history surrounding the Mediterranean. Just scratched the surface of it though"Â?

Wesley did love the study of people's cultures and the events that shaped their lives. He liked the thought of what people did in every day life. What was it like for a woman of Macedonia who said good buy to her common man who had a itching to join Alexander in his quest for glory? That part of history unwritten or remembered, millions of simple stories never told or if told, but long forgotten.

He finally found a hook, a common theme between them he could use to possibly extend his encounter with her.

"Excuse me I wonder if you would enjoy a drink or a quick bite to eat? I would love to hear your slant on history."Â?

A look of surprised joy wreathed Suki's face. Generally people either droned on about history or laughed at her interest. At his offer she quickly nodded.

"That would be great. Most people either pontificate or roll their eyes at my interest. Especially when they realize I am not admiring the artwork or architecture but the culture as a whole, how people lived, why they did what they did."

Brushing one long braid back off her shoulder she started towards the entrance, talking over her shoulder as her boots clunked on the linoleum floor. "There is a little coffee shop on the corner, I would love some chai if you are interested."

Wesley was extra happy by Suki's reply on history. He was of the same mind, it seemed, about history anyway.

They were walling past the sporting goods area and skateboards caught his attention. He just had to get one, and as a clerk was standing ideal, he asked Suki if she minded a moment to get one.

"I was fairly good on one as a kid."
Suki Langston 17 years ago
Laughing she stopped and checked out the boards for sale. They were not the insanely expensive kinds but a rather generic. Possibly the kind people get who are just learning the sport or wanting to upgrade from a very basic model. While she had good balance this was one sport she had never tried. Now hackey sack she could do, but this was foreign to her.

"You do realize that now I require a demonstration. Since I have seen people on these but never had someone claim to be fairly good." Her joking was all in good fun and said with a smile and a sparkle in her eyes.
Wesley 17 years ago
He looked sheepishly at her. It had been a good long time sense he had done anything on one, and, although, he was at one time excellent at it, he would have rather done his reacquaints to it less publicly. And that was when he had two good arms for balance. Heaven knows what will happen now and how much he needed to make adjustment.

But then there was that hint of challenge in her voice. He could hardly turn that down.

“Ok but if I’m to kill myself, I beg that you choose the color of board I crash and burn on.”
Suki Langston 17 years ago
Laughing she reviewed the colors and designs on the selection before them. Finding one she liked due to its stylized dragon in black on the underside she picked it up and showed it to Wesley.

"I think this one is perfect. I like the blue shade and the dragon. But I am not sure why it has green wheels."

She hoped it was appropriate and not a childs size toy or anything. Since she did not really have any clue at all about skateboards. Shrugging she admitted to herself that she had only done as he had asked.

"While you show off I can hold your backpack, so you dont break that laptop that now works."
Wesley 17 years ago
Wesley purchased the board and walked out of the store with it in his one good hand, it being his only hand. They had to walk up to the middle of the block to find the parking structure, as the sidewalk was still a buzz with people and Wes considered himself a hazard at that moment.

He pointed in the direction of the structure,
"I can we test it there? I would appreciate it if only you laugh at me and not the whole city."Â?
Suki Langston 17 years ago
Following him outside she swung her hands widely, like a child would. Watching people hurry up and down the sidewalk in the fading day was fun but did not provide them with a spot for skating. Looking at the garage she nodded, that would be a perfect place.

"Sounds good to me. Plus you can consider the cars in it obsticals where as people are more squishy."

Entering the concrete structure with her eyes wide and taking in the entire area, Suki scanned the area for safetys sake. She knew that Wesley was larger than her but she doubted he had as many years of martial arts under his belt as she did. If she could take on James from the dojo, who worked as a bouncer at Club E, she could take on Wesley.

Finding several open stalls and a ramp heading up to the second level she clapped before holding out her hand for the backpack.
"Lets see what ya got!"
Wesley 17 years ago
He handed the backpack to her as he looked around. The ramp was a temptation, but the conservative in him won out.

"I think I'll try level ground first, if you don't mind,"Â? he laughed.

He stepped over to a supporting concrete column and sat the skateboard down on the pavement. His stomach did a "you're an idiot"Â? flip, as he stepped onto the board. He shoved off and searched for his balance. It was there. He grinned as he moved himself along with two good pushes of a foot. It was all still there, he turned and glided to a stop, and stepped off.

"Damn, I still have my balance. I bet it's the racket ball I play on campus, excellent!"Â?

He was for real stoked.

Slinging the backpack on one shoulder, Suki watched with interest. Wesley's first ride on the board seemed tentative and she wondered if it really was that hard. The moves seemed simple and she caught how he shifted his weight when turning around. She was clapping heartily as he stepped off the board.

"Good job! It looks like its all in balance and agility. Though I just recall the guys I knew making it flip over or skid down railings. Which looked stupidly insane to me."

She wondered if he would let her take a little ride on his board but then quickly scratched that idea. The night was far from over and she had to get to work still.
Wesley 17 years ago
He flipped it up with his feet to his hand. It was a leap of faith that he could do that still. Now smiling at Suki he offered it to her.

"Give it a try, I'll give you a anchor and you can go along as we go to the restaurant, ok?"Â? he asked.
Suki Langston 17 years ago
Deciding to try she gently placed the backpack on the concrete against a wall. Her purse followed suit. Pulling her skirt up slightly, and exposing her black and eggplant colored tights she took the board. Carefully she placed it on the ground, wheels down and put one boot upon it.

"I think perhaps trying here is a great way to save me from embarassment."

Pushing off with her foot she glided on the board. Carefully she navigated one turn to return to their space before coming to a halt near Wesley. She thought it was not quite that hard as her natural agility and years of martial arts seemed to assist her.

"Interesting. Though I dont think I will try all the fancy tricks I have seen with jumping and kicking the board up." Her laugh rang through the empty parking garage with a joyous sound.
Wesley 17 years ago
Wesley laughed also as he remembered the one time he tried a handrail guide and ended up with stitches in jaw.

"Ya I never got that good or brave. Now two or three steps that's my maximum rush."Â?

When she had lifted her skirt slight he notice her athletic strong legs, what man wouldn't?"Â? He thought maybe a gymnast or a dancer. At any rate she was very fit, a surprise to him to, knowing her work as a wateriest and executive assistant.

"You did very good. Can I ask you a personal question?"Â? he asked, trying to be not overlay pushy.
Suki Langston 17 years ago
Attempting to move about again in the board, Suki laughed at the idea of going down steps. The thought was amusing but she doubted she would try it. Attempting a turn and failing had her stepping off the board to regain her balance. Determined to try again she watched her footing and zoomed back towards Wesley.

"Sure thing! Though I reserve the right to not answer." She said with a laugh.
Wesley 17 years ago
"Fair enough. I actually have two questions."Â?

He paused before asking. He was a basically polite person and didn't ever want to embarrass anyone. But he wanted know if she was attached as he thought perhaps a date would be fun.

"Yum... first are you sports minded, and secondly are you married or formerly attached in some way?"Â?

His face went bright red as the questions fell from his mouth. He almost wanted to retrieve them as soon as he spilled them out at her feet. But it was said and done, oh well.

Turning this time went well. While she was not as smooth at it as Wesley was, she felt it went better this time. Stopping near him she put her foot on the back of the board but it only stood up at a 45 degree angle. Bending down she plucked it up frowning at its failure to hop up for her like it had for him. Offering the skateboard back to Wesley with a smile in thanks for allowing her to try.

She answered his questions as openly and honestly as possible.
"I have practiced two types of martial arts for over eight years. That keeps me fit and builds my agility and balance. While I am not currently involved with anyone, I do have a strange life so finding a nice guy is hard."

Suki toyed with the end of her braid for a moment before looking up at him with a very coy look. "And you?"
Wesley 17 years ago
He was reasonably happy with the answer; it had an open door feel to it. He was a realest and never put too much into anything beyond what was current. It was enough to know she might be open to a date or two.

"Me? Na! Single is they come,"Â? he said, answering her question, at least what he hoped she was asking.

"So martial arts... A? you show it in your balance and fitness. Have you found a Dojo here?

He new something of two or three styles of the arts, but there were many. He was given a bit of a crash course in the Navy but never a belt.

Slight shyness washed over Suki. It had been a while since a guy had been asking her if she was spoken for with the intent of asking her out. Well, a serious guy, not just a random drunk or hungry vampire. The phase quickly passed as he answered her own question somewhat casually. The compliment was greatly appreciated and she was more than happy to discuss her dojo so a smiled crossed her face.

"Thanks. I go to Master Ling's Studio mostly. He does Tae Kwon Do for begining to intermediate students, but mostly adults. I attend a different Dojo for my Shoalin practices. The later is rather exclusive and you need to be invited or else I would give you their name as well."

As she spoke she wove one of her braids around her hand. Time was running short and she would have to get going to work soon which would end the impromptu visit with Wesley unfortunately.
Wesley 17 years ago
They reached the little restaurant shortly and he offered opening the door.

“That school is Chinese, right? You are well then schooled, impressive,” He remarked.

He was now very intrigued by her. She was a confident woman and he liked that. Wesley was not so much as confident but admired it in people. He also felt a woman that was a bit more certain of what she wanted, would reach out and pull him. It was possible a fantasy, but he felt that way.
Suki Langston 17 years ago
"Yup, Master Ling is Chinese. Of course Taekwondo originated in Korea. That aside, its a good studio, educational and helpful. If your looking for a dojo I may have a card."

Because she loved the art and studio, Suki carried several of Ling's cards with her normally just in case. Martial Arts like History was something she liked but people she met did not seem interested in. She wondered if Wesley realized he was picking her favorite things, it made her smile. Suki asked the server in the little restaurant for a chai before returning her attention back to her companion.

"I'm really glad I met you Wesley. You are really nice and fun to talk to, I bet you have lots of friends."
