Paul? Is that you? (Attn: Panos)(lock Please)

Ugh...she woke up with a sharp pain in her neck, or rather halfway down her neck, and into her back. Sleeping on patio furniture, in the cold dampness, was not conducive to either a good nights sleep, nor feeling fine the next day. Or the same day, as the case was.

However, even in minor pain, Shay smiled as she opened her eyes, and looked at the day before her. She guessed it must be somewhere around ten or eleven in the morning, and for her five or six hours sleep was an accomplishment.

Shaking the fuzziness from her head, she drug the comforter inside, and tossed it back into her office, as she walked to the bathroom. One long, hot shower later, she was starting to feel human again.

As she made her way to the kitchen she dialed the number on the card he'd given her. She poured out the remains of the coffee from the night before, and started a new pot. The number rang...she hoped he was awake...she hated being woken up by the phone too early, and she hated waking others up as well.

As it rang again, she made a mental list of the things she had to take care of today...royal blue being the number one project.

Since she hadn't reached Paul earlier, she spent a few hours in her office, writing up some notes, and character references. She still had considerable research to complete before she could begin to outline her story, but she was much to distracted to put real time into the book today. The fact that she'd been able to get almost three hours into it, was mind boggling.

Once she'd reached the three hour mark - it was a goal to devote at least that much to the book - she had just given up. For the most part she was dedicated, and would put in an average of thirteen hours a day. So these occasional lapses didn't bother her. And now that she had 'someone' to be distracted by, she minded even less.

"Come on Paul...where are you? Most people who have cell phones actually carry them around with them."

She tapped the desk with her pencil, as she listened to the ringing on the other end. The later the day wore on, the less likely she knew she'd be in reaching Paul. Not that she needed him. Mathias was going to meet her there later, and he'd even offered to get her inside. But she had been looking forward to seeing him again, and hearing if he'd had any luck in finding a place to live nearby. When Shay had been on the force, she'd had several guy friends that she got along famously with. She hoped Paul might turn out to be one of those kinds of guys.

But if she didn't reach Paul today, she would try again another time, and just go to the club tonight, a bit later. There was nothing that would keep her from meeting Mathias...nothing that she had control over, anyway.

Hanging up the phone, she grabbed her purse, and car keys, and set out to do some errands. She'd try again after awhile, from her cell phone. In the mean time she'd get directions from someone in town, and also pick up her surprise for Mathias...providing she could find it.

Shoving the key in the lock, Shay tried to get the door open as quickly as possible -- the phone inside was ringing! Dropping one of her packages, she left it on the front step, and hopped over it as she let herself in to the condo. Door wide open, packages being dropped right and left, she made a mad dash for the office where she grabbed up the phone.

"Hello? Mathias? Oh DAMN!"

Just as she picked up the phone, she heard the click on the other end, denoting the other party had hung up. She looked at the phone for a few seconds, debating whether she should try to call Mathias...just to see if it had been him...but then thought he surely would have left a message, and that it must have been a wrong number. She hadn't given her number out to anyone else, so who else could it have been...

Setting the phone back into its cradle, she padded back into the living room, picking up bags as she walked along. Once she'd retrieved the last one from the front step, she closed the door, and made her way back to her bedroom...all the packages went onto the bed at that point.

Taking a few minutes to stretch, she then took all her purchases out of the bags, removed the tags, and put them away in her closet. Once again she'd been successful on her shopping trip, although she hadn't met anyone new this time. She stuffed all the empty bags into the largest empty bag, and then just let it fall to the floor. A semi wicked smile crossed her face and she began to remove her clothes. Once she was nude...her clothes in another pile on the floor, she pulled back the down comforter on her bed, and slipped between it and the soft, sweet smelling sheet below.

Decadent as it was for her, an afternoon nap was too delicious an idea to pass up, especially knowing she was in for another late night. The bed felt quite warm, even though there was no heat on in the flat. Having come in from the brisk outside though, made the bed feel almost toasty. In minutes she was asleep...and dreaming of his arms around her.

Waking up in the early evening was rather disconcerting. At first she was very disoriented...the room was black as pitch, and the normal sounds outside had quieted. She glanced at the clock on her nightstand...it read eight forty-five.

She sat up, shook her mane of hair, and the cobwebs out. Fortunately, she felt very refreshed, and alert...not always the way she woke up from an afternoon nap. Getting out of bed, she did some stretches, mainly to get the kinks out, and then went to her closet.

She had finally bought a pair of boots that afternoon, though she still hadn't gotten a really 'substantial' pair, for winter. These were black leather, and went above her knees, and she only got them because they looked so great with the royal blue velvet skirt she'd found. In turn, she had found a great blouse to wear...very early eighteen hundreds looking...or so she had thought when she saw it.

In any event, she had thought of Mathias when she saw the blouse, and the fact that it seemed made for the skirt, which she had purposely bought with Mathias in mind. And then there were the boots...three inch heels, but leather as soft as butter...the whole outfit just fell into place, and felt like it was made to wear tonight.

She did chide herself on buying new outfits every time she was to go out, and knew she should start limiting herself...at least until the royalties from her next book started coming in.

Though she had received a nice advance against her third book, Shay made it a practice to never spend those, until they were actually earned.

Deciding to give Paul another try, she walked barefoot into the office, and dialed his number. Being that it was still chilly in the condo, and that she was still naked, she pulled the comforter around her, and waited while the phone rang.

"Come on Paul...this is your last chance of the evening."

A knock...at the door? Had she just heard a knock? Damn, damn, damn!

"Well, I'm sorry Paul, but I told you I'd call you today...I guess we'll need to meet again some other time."

She hung up the phone, and headed for the living room, and then remembered all she was wearing was a blanket!

Quickly running up to the door, she looked out the 'peep hole' and saw a delivery person walking away. She waited until she heard a truck leave.

(ooc - Shay out, to pick up in flower delivery thread.)
