Alone in the Night (open to anyone)

Aishe had wandered into a garden, full of restless energy and unable to find much else that appealed to her to do at this time. Her body was still telling her it needed sleep, and she was trying to convince it to sleep during the day. She had found that she couldn't simply sit around in her hotel room and wait, but neither did she want to stray too far. So she'd gone for a walk, hoping to keep it short but sweet.

The little plaque had proclaimed these the Vesper Gardens, and she was curious as to how they might look at night. To her astonishment and delight, she felt as if she'd stepped into some kind of moonlit fairyland as she wandered tentatively in. Most of the flowers were varied shades of white and silver, but there were artful splashes of color everywhere; gentle lavender, vivacious reds, lush greens. Everything was beautifully cultivated, and Aishe recognized several kinds of night-blooming flowers such as the nicotania with its star-shape and delicate little petals, and the even smaller jasmine blossoms whose scent drifted lazily throughout the gardens.

She let herself drift just as aimlessly for a while, enjoying the beauty of the garden, discovering with a smile the very middle of it, the pretty fountain with its statue. She looked at that for a bit and then found herself an out-of-the-way corner and a bench, nestled in amongst two fragrant jasmine bushes. Sitting sideways on it, she drew her knees up, rested her chin upon them, and wrapped her arms around her legs. She closed her eyes and let herself take in the scents alone for a bit.

//It was a strange feeling that washed over her then, almost deja vu, as her mind's eye took her someplace else. She found herself in a dimly-lit room, inside some kind of building. Although the room was large and comfortable, she felt vaguely ill at ease.

There were footsteps, and then she was pulled roughly to her feet. Someone yelled at her; she didn't know what they said. Her mind couldn't quite pick that part out of the dream. There was a sound, flesh striking flesh, and then the room burst into color before her eyes. She had fallen, and whoever had hit her was punishing her with a vengeance. She couldn't scream, she could merely endure.

Her eyes fell upon a tall vase of flowers. They were blue lilies. She loved those; she'd put them there with such care. She focused on them now, waiting for the fists to cease their pounding...//

Aishe's eyes snapped open; she sat upright and glanced around. She must have fallen asleep after all. She leaned back, resting on the palms of her hands. Some dream, she thought. This past month sure has me spinning around.

She swiped one hand across her eyes and shook herself awake. It wouldn't do to lose resolve on an issue this small, she chided herself sternly. You were a college student once, after all. You've pulled all-nighters before.

Having wierd dreams was just unsettling enough to encourage her to renew her efforts. The garden was enjoyable, and despite the peaceful atmosphere she felt her resolve strengthen. She smiled up into the night and let the moonlight bathe her face.

He knew he was staring at her for a least twenty seconds, And noticed she had noticed but he had to figure who she reminded him of. Instantly his eyes lit up and He snapped his finger and pointed at her.

"I just got it,"Apollyon stated; his eyes bright with excitement,"You look almost exactly like my sister, Or at least what she used to look like. I haven't seen her in six or seven years. a few years after I was born my mother became pregnant again, this time with a man who actually had values, This was the man I grew to call my father."

He thought about his next action for a moment but decided to disobey his reservations toward it

"Listen," He said, " I know this is the first time you've met me and all, And this would be extremely weird for anyone you met the first time to give this to you. But With any major city, Walking around this time at night carries much danger with it."

he reached inside the right pocket in his pants and revealed a switchblade

"Now if you see anyone following you, or coming uncomfortably close," he said as he showed her a small button near the hilt of the small six inch handle.

"Hit this button."

Apollyon clicked the button and the blade of the knife thrust itself in place with a soft clicking sound.

"Normally I would say aim for the inner thigh. But around these parts,if you feel threatened,Thrust the blade just under the chin, And do this with as much strength as your arm can muster. God forbid should you ever have to use it, They probably wont see this coming."

He held the button down this time and put the blade back in it's original position, looking at Aishe to make sure she was paying attention.

"I know this must make you uncomfortable, But ya have two choices, Ya either take the knife," He changed his serious glare to a humorous smile, "or you're gonna have a 6 and a half foot three hundred pound man Around ya to make sure no one fucks with you." He paused a long moment, "Seriously I would feel much better if ya took it"

he turned the handle of the blade around in an unconscious gesture, and offered the weapon to his new acquantence.

Aishe regarded Peter with some surprise, but she watched and listened while he gave her his brief lesson. It crossed her mind to let him know that her many years of tae Kwon Do had also included several practical methods of self-defense, but she remained quiet instead. Her observant eyes noted many things just then, but foremost was the fact that for such a large man, he handled the knife with a good deal of grace. His huge hands, which looked like they must be nothing but clumsy, were quite agile as they flipped the blade around.

Aishe accepted both the gift and the lesson, not because she felt any kind of hesitation walking around with this man, but because it seemed important to him that she do so. She'd never had any siblings; she didn't know how she'd feel if she had, but she did love her parents very much and knew if anything ever happened to harm them, she'd want to be able to help. It must be the same for Peter and his sister.

"Thank you," she said, slipping the knife into the pocket of her cargo pants, right alongside the knife that already rested there. It was the same knife she'd cut her wrist on a few weeks back. She always had it with her.

"You and your sister must be close," Aishe said softly, "if just a chance meeting with a stranger makes you feel so protective!"

She said that with no small amount of wistfulness... she'd always wanted a brother. It looked like she had one now though, whether she liked it or not! Somehow the thought was a cheery one.

"I don't believe much in chance and odds" Apollyon returned. "I however do strongly believe in fate. Every Action of every object, animate or inanimate, has been predestined by this Un-personified force that wills all to do its bidding. In other words," He paused and looked intently into her deep green eyes, "Fate has willed us to meet here tonight. For what purpose this will serve for us later in our lives?" He paused and cracked a smile, coupled with a shrug, "we can only wait for fate to reveal that to us."

"And to answer your other remark, yes. My sister and I were once very close, but have grown apart over time. When family members branch out across the world it's only a matter of time until you lose that closeness you once had."

He had done more thinking of his young life than he had cared to today.

"Why the hell didn't they accept the gift I had given them?" he asked himself. a small tear welled up on his cheek. He chuckled a bit as if trying to dismiss the thoughts in his head. he went for the flask in his pocket, unscrewed the top and Chugged down the remaining half of the scotch in the flask in a mighty gulp he wiped his eye with the end of the sleeve of his coat and said,
"Sorry, damn allergies."

That was a lot to ponder, Aishe thought, reflecting on the idea of destinies and fate. She'd certainly seen enough in her lifetime to believe in such. She wasn't sure what she herself believed in, though. Her mind traveled back to last year, the gentle 'shush' of her brush over old, old stone, the discovery of pictographs that told a story of a man who'd killed to save his own sister and the 'punishment' that awaited him for his crime. Looking back at Peter, she suddenly felt a chill... as if he knew something of the passing of time. She shrugged it off, not wanting to pry into a past that obviously unsettled him.

Aishe stood, ignoring Peter's 'allergies' and stretching a bit.

"Let's take a walk, then," she suggested. "It's kind of a walk back to the hotel for me, and I certainly don't mind having company if you're inclined to be hijacked for an escort. I should be getting back soon anyhow."

Aishe took one last breath, enjoying the jasmine and the night air, then glanced at her watch. They'd been here longer than she'd guessed, long enough for her to consider it a night well spent. She'd sleep well into the day, and would never be able to get back to sleep until early the next morning. Perfect. By the time she found Kem she'd be a well-adjusted night owl.

Then again, by the time she found Kem, if she had her way, she'd be something entirely new altogether.

Apollyon took note of the time and decided her suggestion was probably a good idea, He just might have enough time to scrounge up some blood before daylight forced its way onto the horizon.he acknowledged with a nod and said,

"Sure, in all honesty I hadn't realized this much time had passed"

he yawned, cracked his fingers, and beamed a jovial smirk and stated

"Lead the way"

Aishe made her way out of the garden followed by Peter, whose response to her casual request to continue the conversation while walking back to the hotel had been to the affirmative. Aishe resolved to come back here, certainly soon, for it was a beautifully-kept garden and she hadn't gotten to poke her nose into every little nook and cranny as she'd wanted to originally. Not that she was complaining at all; the night had certainly proven interesting.

Biting back a yawn, she made it to the front entrance of the garden and looked both ways, getting her bearings.
