A Good Night (lock please)

Pulling the trunk in through the front door, Shay was amazed at the ease she felt here, in a brand new place, so far from home.

She pushed the trunk over against the wall, out of the way, and would unpack it later. For now she just stood in the middle of her living room and looked around.

The blinds across her patio doors were open, and she smiled. The patio looked very inviting, full of comfy chairs, potted plants, and a wonderful view of the woods beyond.

Strolling through the small place she opened all the blinds...she loved the sunlight, and how bright and cheery it made the place look. Of course if she had been writing, she would have gone for the totally opposite look. Writing about vampires was not something one did in the middle of the afternoon, with bright, happy sunlight all around. No, she did much better with her train of thought, when it was about 2am...dark as pitch outside, and only the small lamp in her office turned on. Occasionally she'd light candles through out, for added atmosphere. Sometimes she even played harpsichord music, softly, in the background. She wasn't sure why, but that always put her 'in the mood'.

Remembering something, she made a 'bee line' for the hall, and when she reached the end of it, where she appeared to be in front of a plain wall with a bookcase on it, she pushed one of the books and the wall turned into a door, that opened. Yes...it was a bit trite, but it worked, so far.

When the door opened, it led to a rather cozy room. Inside the room was a cot, chair, lamp, desk, mini fridge, safe, and even a sink. A large cabinet at one end held several different methods of self defense, from her old police revolver, to an antique sword, blessed by a pope, and several other more unique pieces. Seeing everything in order there, she closed the panel so it again resembled just a bookcase, nothing more.

Her refrigerator, stove, and bed had just been delivered to day, so she still had to stock her kitchen...the bed was made up right away. But before she worried about food, she needed to get out of the house...check out the city more...see if she could meet some 'people' who might in turn lead her to the information she needed.

Grabbing up her purse, and car keys, she locked up, and left...hoping for a lucky afternoon, and better still, evening.
