Things that go bump...

Etaine stood back and surveyed the fresly painted living room of her new apartment. She had chosen a light Sara Lee yellow for this room. On one wall, opposite the front door, she had painted a flowing outline of a daisy. She had thought about filing it in, but ended up deciding against it. It was done. That's how most of her art turned out. What most considered to be half finished, she considered complete. Simple. Elegant. She moved over to the couch and straightened a few of the cushions, all of them coloured in various shades of oranges and reds. She wasn't quite sure that the myriad of cheerful colours suited her style, but she could change it easily enough. And she probably would before too long.

She padded her way into the kitchen, readjusting a spaghetti strap of her tank top that had slipped down off of her shoulder. Grabbing the teapot from the stove, she filled it with a small smile upon her lips. So this is what it felt like to have your own place. She was finally free of dorms, loud parties and chatty girls. She was in heaven. She dropped the teapot onto a burner, flipped the switch to high and then walked ack out to the living room, flopping on to the couch and grabbing the remote to flip through channels. She couldn't decide wether she wanted to stay in or go out this evening. Maybe the television would decide for her. Her fingers stopped doing the walking as she reached a familiar scene. The redheaded woman bobbing up and down on Tom Cruise shouting, "NEVER STOP FUCKING ME!!" She took in a depp breath, turned the television off and tossed the remote on the table before jumping up from the couch. She was going out tonight.

She stopped off in the kitchen to move the whistling teapot from the burner, pour out a cup of hot water and toss in a tea bag. She let it just sit there and went back to her bedroom. This is where her true self seemed to come out. The walls were painted in a deep, blood red with a dark cherry wood chair border that perfectly matched her furnishings. She glanced over to her king sized bed with a grin. The sheer black silk that she had haphazardly draped over the simple lines of the canopy made it very inviting. Perhaps she would not lie in it alone tonight when she returned home. With a shrug she turned to her closet and opened the double doors. She quickly chose her outfit for the evening and laid it out neatly on the bed. She eyed the open window as she began to undress, not even thinking of closing it. If someone wanted to look, they were going to look. She pulled the tank top over her head and folded it neatly before placing it in the laundry basket. She stared back down at the white silk and cotten blend t-shirt on the bed and quietly debated the bra/no bra debate with herself. She opted for none and quickly pulled the shirt down over her head, slipped her arms through the holes and slid it down over her slight chest and waist. She turned to the side and surveyed herself in the mirror. Small and pert. Perfect. She slipped the pink boyshorts off of her hips and guilded her feet through the legs of her jeans one at a time, tucking the shirt in before fastening the buttons. She chose a faded brown leather belt with a pretty silver buckle. It would compliment her new Docs nicely. She finished dressing and then checked her ass in the mirror before leaving the room.

She took a single sip of her tea before heading out the door, down the steps and into the slight chill of the night air. She immediatly felt the goosebumps rise on her arms and her nipples harden from the cold. She didn't know where she was going yet, but she'd know it when she found it. Preferrably some place that wasn't trashy. A place with the casual upwardly mobile. This city was her oyster, and she was bound and determined to find a pearl.
