Hitting The Ground Running (Attn: Jin)

Standing up in the cramped narrow aisle Tristan stretched as high as he could, airplanes being what they were it wasn't far. In fact, he was lucky he wasn't hitting his head. He would have sprung for first class, but it had been sold out and there was only one flight a week from nowhere-ville Mexico to Nachton and it wasn't even non-stop They'd touched down in Podunk Texas and Chicago as well. At least it had been a red eye and on time.

A silver lining was a silver lining, but even with that, the whole trip remind him why he didn't leave Oz too often.

Finally off the plane he lazily made his way to baggage claim and found another bright spot. His old duffel bag had made it with him and in tact. With a yawn he hefted the bag over his shoulder and stepped outside to hail a cab. As the driver headed toward The Manor Tristan wished he'd had some time to clean up. He was rumpled and even though he'd washed his face at the airport he could use a good shower. He couldn't grumble too much though, he might not be having the best night but he was doing a damned sight better than poor Chloe.

Poor thing, Fadil had mentioned her a few times, he'd even met her once but he'd not had the chance to get to know his 'little sister'. She'd been Fadil's youngest and from what Tristan understood his maker was quite proud of her, claimed she had great talent for one so young. Between her old school ties, Chloe was young enough that most of the people she'd known as a human were still about, Fadil's machinations and the downright luck of being in the right place at the right time Chloe had gotten herself picked up by Alfred put right to work with another attempt to manipulate werewolf DNA.

It shouldn't have been that dangerous. Sure there was a risk, there was risk in most missions, but it should have been minimal. That's the only reason someone so young would have been allowed to handle something like that. No one could have foreseen her minor slip and Alfred -completely- loosing it, burning the whole place to the ground, with Chloe in it.

Seeing the Manor Tristan didn't let the driver continue up the drive. He'd rather walk.

"Here will do mate.”

Obligingly the driver pulled over and they settled up. Tristan shrugged into a leather jacket, it was fall up here after all, and walked the rest of the way. He hesitated for a second not sure if he should knock or just let himself in, finally deciding this was his home for now and he should just head in. Fortunately it didn't take long before he found a servant and was able to stash his bag with them and directions to the Elder of the Night's office.

This time Tristan did knock. The Elder might be half expecting him, but there was no time line for when. The man was also busy and could hardly be expected to sit still in an office until a stray roving member of the order showed up. If the elder wasn't in he'd grab a shower and a bite and try again in a few hours, but if he'd rather get everyone right up to speed and see what needed to be done next.

Jin 10 years ago
Word had it that Tristan's plane had landed and that the Nightsman had called a cab. Jin wondered if his clanmate would want to meet immediately or if he would settle in first. They had more than simple introductions and notifications to attend to. Tristan had come here following a lead on Alfred.

The situation was closer to him than perhaps most of the clan realized. He certainly hadn't been forthcoming with Tristan's Creator about his personal interests in finding and stopping this rogue Anantya.

Alfred had not messed with him but Bao. He was family and Jin had witnessed the normally stoic vampire during his daughter's kidnapping. Bao had been very shaken by this entire situation. Jin wanted to be able to help Bao through this disaster so that the man could have peace of mind and maybe it would help with Pak Pao. He had heard that she wasn't talking to Bao and that was distressing. Together perhaps they could help regain Bao's honor with his daughter, help him make amends by handing her some of the man's ashes.

A dramatic gesture perhaps, but he was Order of the Night. Dramatic was often second nature.

He suspected that Tristan had good reason to want Alfred dead also. Jin had been told about his sister's death because she was in his Order. She shouldn't have been on the mission in the first place. She hadn't been ready for a long term uncover assignment. Those required that every thought, action and word be above reproach. One had to think and almost believe in the person they were becoming.

Unfortunately, she took an opportunity when it was presented. It was difficult to safely get her out and therefore the Night in Australia let her continue in the role. It had gotten her killed.

She was Tristan's little sister. He didn't know how close they were to each other but she had been family and that was enough to have a very personal reason for wanting the man dead.

He stopped outside his office and found a man standing in front of the door. Jin leaned against the wood paneled hallway wall and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Looking for the Elder?” He smiled up at the man in front of him. "He's not in there.”
Tristan 10 years ago
Still a little tired from his trip, air travel and airports would wear out anyone vampire or not the press of mindless, milling dirty people all irritated by the slightest wrinkle in their plans and then exploding out of proportion with the situation was not his idea of a good time. Although, maybe he could do a paper on it; it was something he hadn't considered before. Later he'd write up some notes and see if it was worth it. It wasn't his primary objective though.

Trying to wake up a bit and not look quite as run over he absently brushed his hair back and adjusted his cuffs and collar. No sense looking like an under paid PI when meeting the Elder, not a great first impression.

Since he hadn't heard or noticed the other man approaching, it looked like he wasn't going to get to make a fantastic first impression at any rate. Just what you wanted in a Nightsman... lack of observation; he'd do better once he'd gotten settled in, a good day's sleep and a shower.

Slightly chagrinned, but with an easy smile and an offered hand as he considered that the trouble with information gathering types was that they tended to know everything. The thought amused him and carried no malice as he nodded a greeting at the Elder. He knew there was a good deal of difference between knowing everything and being a know it all.

"I don't blame him. I probably wouldn't be either. Probably stuffy and cramped and half a dozen people trying to corner him in there with petty problems.”

Not knowing the Elder personally Tristan hoped his humor wouldn't be an issue, but he didn't dwell on it or make himself nervous about it.

"Tristan Alpin, but I expect you know that already. I'm in a bit earlier than I'd thought. If you don't mind one more person trying to corner you I thought we could compare notes. If you're busy it can wait a bit.”

A day, maybe two, but Tristan really did want to find this Alfred son of a bitch. The man was trouble, a menace and reckless. If he kept going the way he was they'd wind up with a wolf pack on their neck and yet more members of Anantya dead. He ground his teeth slightly as bitterly reflection on that.

While he'd not been close to Chloe and didn't have the best relationship with Fadil, Tristan very much resented having a clan member killed on his turf and for no good reason, only the whim of an obsessed man. Besides, less than ideal relationship or not, Fadil was still his creator and Tristan felt a certain loyalty and responsibility to the man who was taking the loss of his youngest quite hard.

Jin smiled and nodded. "That's what I hear, Poor Bastard." He shook his head in silent sympathy for the couped up Elder of the Night...where ever he might be hiding with his books and his nagging people in his cramped office. "Probably pouring over outdated intel from centuries ago and no one has bothered to tell him any different."

In a stage whisper, he leaned forward and said.
"I hear he's ancient...probably hasn't heard of the telegraph much less a cellphone."

Tristan introduced himself and held out his hand.
"Jin Han, stuffy out of date Elder who has managed to escape his couped up office...briefly." He opened the door and entered the decidedly spacious office.

It had slowly taken on a bit of his personality over the years. Sorin was not coming back and while there had been talk of Thaddeus Grey taking on the position that seemed unlikely. Thaddeus was doing the job in a much smaller city. He had talked to him on many occasions and the man was an excellent Nightsman. Jin had no doubt that Grey might one day sit in this very office as their clan's Elder of the Night but first he would learn the role on a less grand scale.

The room now had a subtle Asian feel. His mother and sister kept him supplied with arrangements of fresh flowers each with various and layered meanings. He was ever amused at the fragrant new puzzles that arrived for him. The bookshelves held many of the books that Sorin had found useful but he had also installed the room with better technology. The previous Elder had been up to date but not a particular fan of what machines could bring to the table. Sorin had believed that agents were the best tools of their trade and spyware had taken a much smaller role.

Jin sat down behind his desk and started up the laptop. Pointing to the large screen that dominated one side wall of his office, he put up some documents so that they could both see them.

"The Vyusher R'asa has done a thorough job of destroying Alfred's lab here in the city. They also tracked down most of his people." Jin brought up a list of names. "They didn't kill the vampires but they did something to all of them. Every one we have since spoken with has made it very clear that they want no part of Alfred's future work. Several have asked for clan asylum and one has since gone into hiding in a remote part of South America." He knew where the man was and harbored no doubts that the wolves knew also but Jin suspected so long as the vampire stayed away from Alfred and from research even remotely involving werewolf DNA then he would continue to live a long and happy unlife.

"It has been made clear that only the tenuous treaty has kept them from slaughtering everyone." Jin frowned slightly and continued. "For this reason alone finding Alfred is of utmost importance. He could potentially start another war." And this time the outcome might not be so favorable for their clan.

"There was another incident here recently but I am interested in what you know." Pak's kidnapping and the capture of several agents of Alfred's hadn't yielded as much as they would have hoped but Tristan's information might give them something more to work with.

The man's casual and easy response to his humor was welcome and Tristan relaxed some. Some people seemed to think if you had a sense of humor you weren't professional, he found those to be difficult working relationships.
*
"Cellphones are passe now anyway. Have to have a smart phone don't you?”
*
Tristan quipped as he followed the elder into his office. The office itself was a breath of fresh air. The Manor was nice, at least the foyer and hallways he had seen were quite nice, but the feeling of space here was quite welcome. It was tempting to take a deep breath and a good stretch but that seemed a little casual for having just met his boss. He was going to find out who'd decorated the room though, his offices always wound up looking slightly cluttered, comfortable but cluttered. Someone with a bit more flare and organization might help him get his act together.
*
Not quite ready to sit down Tristan leaned on a chair. No one would ever mistake him for a soldier, he wasn't the type to stand at attention and deliver a report. He was, however, impressed by the technology on display. They did all right back home, it wasn't the dark ages by any stretch but on first glance, they were out classed. It might be time to upgrade a bit.

*
"They've been a damned sight more polite about this than I would have been.”
*
Even though the thought of being that involved with a werewolf made his palms sweat Tristan* thought they'd handled this situation well. They'd made it clear they wouldn't take things laying down but also didn't go off starting something even bigger, they just dealt with the problem at hand and very efficiently.

Privately Tristan was dying to know where in South America the vampire in hiding was. But he kept his mouth shut. The ones asking for asylum were more interesting.

"Is the clan granting these requests?"
They probably were under certain conditions and that didn't bother him but it would help round out his own picture.

Tristan didn't mention the other two small labs. He knew those had been reported to the Elder and they both knew those labs had folded under financial pressure. As near as Tristan had been able to work out that pressure had come mostly from The Rose, particularly Bao Hoang, who'd he'd never met. Fadil said there was more to it and that the wolves had had their paws in as well. Tristan hadn't had the chance to go over the finances in detail yet, and he wasn't as good with numbers as Fadil besides.

Instead what he concentrated on was what happened back home. It took some effort to be brief and succinct but Tristan didn't want to give the wrong impression by being overly emotional about things.

"Alfred showed up down in Perth. No one caught wind or his arrival and all our sources said he'd head to either Taiwan or Brazil. He set up shop quietly, and had a new lab up and running before we knew he was there, very small operation dozen people tops. One of the scientists was a school mate of Chloe Barnes, Fadil's youngest. That's how we got wind of it.”

God poor Chloe, so determined so anxious to impress. She had to have known she was on to something big but had been determined to show Fadil she was worth having been turned. Tristan could only shake his head.

"Fadil tried to get her out but it was impossible. She slipped to her school mate, one of Alfred's familiars, one to many times. And word got back to Alfred. From what I've been able to piece together of her notes I'm fairly certain Alfred knows he's being hunted and his intention had been to use Chloe to stay one step ahead. We aren't clear what caused him to snap, but she must have triggered it. He burned the place to the ground both Chloe and the familiar died in the fire.”
Horrible, horrible way to die. Tristan had surmised that in desperation Chloe had challenged Alfred. The man wasn't insane or a raving lunatic but he was a bit of a sociopath. He'd not have responded to a threat well, he would have simply eliminated it and if he felt his project were at risk he'd destroy it rather than let others have it.

"He took off almost immediately after. The original intent was to start again, we pulled enough information to show he was already turning Perth into a decoy and intended to move back to Brazil but he took off in another direction at the last second. He's here... or he will be soon and it seems to have to do with the incident here. Do we have something he wants?”
Tristan realized it wasn't the best report he'd ever given, he'd blame it on jet lag though. That or the fact that he'd accidentally given his satchel with his tablet and notes to the servant with his duffel bag. He was not the best organized vampire in the world. He hoped the elder would have questions, questions he could answer.

((OOC... ok that got long. let me know if it doesn't make sense or i should change it up a bit. sometimes i get lost in a long post like that))

Jin 10 years ago
Jin nodded and answered Tristan's question about asylum. "Yes, we granted it. One was an Anantya to begin with so he will be making it up to the clan for a decade or so. The other, interestingly enough, was a clanless vampire." Jin shook his head slightly in wonderment. "That took a lot of bravery on her part. We were already displeased with the whole debacle in the first place and it is very rare that we accept clanless vampires into our fold." Clasping his hands in front of him, he smiled. "But she knew her timing well. I recruited her immediately. She could have gone to Evenhet who is far more lenient, so the story goes, to clanless but she chose Anantya. We can't afford to kill her when she might still possess some information about this whole situation and we can't afford to let Evenhet have her for the same reason. She took this chance and came out with the safety of a clan. From what I gather that was why she agreed to work with Alfred in the first place."

Tristan went on to explain what happened to his sister and how she was able to get into the new lab in Australia. Jin frowned at the mention of the fire.
"Such a grand display was foolhardy. It let everyone know where he was and that he had no reason to come back." Jin and his people tried to come up with a reason behind such an overt way of dealing with an operative and, so far, the only conclusion they could come up with was that Alfred was cracking under the pressure of being pursued by multiple clans and a wolf pack. It was entirely possible that the whole thing was terribly clever in some aspect but he didn't see it. Showing himself, even while leaving, was giving away clues that didn't need to be given away. Even now the Night was combing through the rubble, the finances, and the connections in Australia for any stray tidbit of information. And unlike Alfred, they had plenty of manpower to continue doing that and still chase him to the ends of the earth at the same time.

When Tristan finished and asked a question about why Alfred would return here, Jin nodded and placed some pictures up on the screen.
"He had several of his people kidnap a member of Evenhet. Pak Pao is Bao Hoang's daughter. She was rescued by an, over abundance of force, and Evenhet currently holds Alfred's people."

Jin pointed to the first man.
"This one is staying in captivity and has been questioned thoroughly. Their suggestion works as well or better than command over time and I am certain they have gleaned everything from him they possibly can." Suggestion was insidious if allowed time to work. Unlike command, suggestion was able to get information the person doing the suggestion didn't know to ask for. All they had to do was continue to suggest to the person that they tell them everything they knew about a situation. Given time and plenty of recording material or a lot of patience, the person would eventually babble on about everything they knew, even things that seemed minor. A person with command could only get directed answers. Yes, they could command a person speak of a subject but that person was being forced and the answers were rarely so forth coming and thorough. "The next one has joined Evenhet. He was newly made and I hear the offer comes with the provision that he be watched quite closely for some time by the Chief of Security. Clever of Bern really." Jin narrowed his eyes to mere slights. "Otherwise we might have taken him in ourselves, now whatever he knows stays with Evenhet. Though they have shared some files in the interest of cooperation." Not everything, not even close. He suspected that they wanted to catch Alfred for their own reasons, not the least of which was the slight to one of their own. Alfred was wanted by the R'asa and would be a huge bargaining chip to have when dealing with them...or Anantya who would be grateful for the return of a rogue member of the clan. Either way, Alfred was a prize that Evenhet wouldn't pass up getting their hands on.

Pointing to the last picture he said.
"Cecile is Alfred's familiar. Evenhet, for reasons known only to them." Though he had some suspicions. "is letting her go. I believe that they are towing the line that she was a human that was coerced, by bond, into being involved therefore they would not kill her. Her role in the entire mess was minor and therefore she has been released...no doubt bugged to hell and back in her phone, clothes, jewelry etc. I am sure they are hoping Alfred will be in too big a hurry to leave again to notice." It wasn't a half bad plan and it cost Evenhet very little to implement.

"We will keep an eye on her when she's released, of course." Jin looked down at his laptop. "And we will try to get our own tracking device or two upon her person at the earliest opportunity."

He smiled up at Tristan.
"Until then the computer team will monitor cell...smart phone and credit card activity from her. I hear you have some knowledge in that area." Jin had more than a little knowledge himself, for an old outdated Elder.
Tristan 10 years ago
"Huh.”

Tristan mused quietly. It was reassuring that Anantya had taken the clanless in; good for her and for him. It meant the clan was serious about putting a stop to this mess. Alfred had been up to this for decades and decades according to what they'd found out back home and it was finally catching up to him and blowing up in his face from the looks of things. It was about time they got him under control, Tristan was looking at it from a personal view point as well though, if the clan threw in even some resources Chloe could be avenged and Fadil would have some measure of comfort.

"Alfred has been recruiting from the fringes and the clanless for a while now, so maybe she'll set an example of sorts.”

It was a slim bit of hope but it wasn't unreasonable. It probably depended a lot on what any individual vampire knew about the clan though. Alfred's destruction of the lab and murder of his own people had already sent most of the staff scurrying for safer ground not only in Australia but in Brazil as well. Tristan had checked out the lab down there before making his way here. He hadn't stayed long, cursory visit really, all he'd learned was the lab was there and functioning on a limited basis and had lost two scientists in the past week. They'd just left badges and company phones on the desk and walked out and no one had seen or heard from them since. Tristan didn't have names or details on these scientists but their defection spoke of fear or at the very least motivated self interest.

"Scared the shit out of some of his folks too as well.”

Tristan agreed with the Elder about the fire and quickly brought him up to speed with the very little he knew about Brazil.

The mention of a kidnapping brought a low whistle from Tristan. That seemed like proof that Alfred had gone bat shit crazy. What the hell was the man thinking daring another clan to get involved? Trying to take on, or even just ignore Anantya was nuts adding Evenhet to that was suicide.

"If they are still alive I'm guessing she is still alive and well.”

Staring at the two faces that Jin had pulled up Tristan scowled. He knew that there were a couple of names in his notes that had been pulled out of a very rough cell phone tap just before Alfred had taken off.

"I'm also going to guess one of these two is called Blaise and the other is called Jarrod. Which one went and changed his spots?”

That also explained why Alfred had suddenly changed his plans and went charging off to Nachton. He smiled slyly at what the Elder had said though. That was rather sneaky of Evenhet, but he approved.

"They might be a bunch of hippies but they are smart hippies.”

He conceded with a smile. Tristan actually respected the other clan and didn't think any less of them. Although he was fairly proud of his clan, he wasn't such a snob or elitist that he looked down on Evenhet, not like some Anantya.

"But that explains a lot if those two are Blaise and Jarrod they are his offspring and his royally pissed they've gotten caught and he wants them back. Which rather unfortunately puts the bait back in Evenhet's hands.”

Assuming they knew what they had. Suggestion was damned tricky, and they had no way of knowing what either of those two men had told any one. The best bet was going to be the familiar. If Evenhet had been feeling soft hearted enough to to turn her loose that meant that Anantya and the Night had access too her, they just had to be careful how they did it.

Giving an odd little sideways nod he grin. Tristan didn't for a second think that he was a match for the computer team's experts. After seeing the Elder's office he wasn't sure he'd be a match for Jin, but he did know more about computers than clicking and double clicking.

"A bit... a bit. But if we have her covered, even a little, and Alfred is on his way here I'd say we have bait wouldn't you?”

Alfred might not make a bee line for his familiar but, especially at the pace he'd been traveling and wreaking havoc, he'd need blood and a familiar (no pun intended) and reliable source might be just too tempting to pass up. Tristan really wanted it to be that easy, stake out the girl and catch the bad guy. It wouldn't go that smooth, nothing ever did, but hope sprang eternal.

"I'd be happy to plant something on her if you need a hand with that. Or, has our side thought of piggy backing on what Evenhet has done? Not disrupt it in anyway just borrow the information you understand.”

That could be risky and he wasn't a fan of spying on allies, but it was very expedient and practical.

He also wanted to talk to the Pakpao woman that had been kidnapped and Blaise and Jarrod if at all possible. It wasn't a subject to even bring up though. If it was possible it had been done, if it wasn't possible he wasn't anyone with enough clout to change Evenhet's mind.
Jin 10 years ago
Jin nodded and smiled at Tristan. "Yes, he has been hiring from the fringes and that might be helpful here. Currently there is more than one group of clanless that thinks that Nachton is big enough that they won't be noticed." His smile took on a predator edge. His people found the poachers and the Hunt took care of them. Mai was perfectly happy with him handing over those names to Amir. They both knew he was more than capable of handling clanless and it helped satisfy his appetite.

"We have a few people in place already with one of the largest groups. If Alfred should happen to pull scientists or backers from them then we will know." They would likely know eventually no matter what the man did but if he found the island group that Ran and Hana had been working with then that would make his life a little easier. They were a likely choice with a network large enough to have the money and contacts necessary to be useful. And the pride to believe they could stand against Anantya.

Tristan named their names and he nodded again. When asked which had become a member of Evenhet, Jin pointed to one of the pictures.
"Blaise, who as I mentioned, was a newer member of Alfred's family." The other probably knew more but Evenhet had options. He wondered if Bern would put his new clan mate at risk in the hopes of drawing Alfred out. Jin knew what he would do but he wasn't a member of the smart hippie clan.

The talk of Cecile brought them back to the current project. Jin smiled at Tristan's suggestion.
"Already planning on it but an extra device of our own couldn't hurt." One of the clan's best hackers in the area belonged to the Hunt. How the hell did that happen anyway? Of course Jin had seen the man and had to admit the giant, intimidating looking Native American looked like he ought to be in the Hunt. Jin knew that they had their own combat people for 'special' missions that they didn't want to inform the other Orders about and he was sure that the Hunt had their own intelligence gathering people for those goals that they didn't want to share. Should they always be open, trusting and cooperative? Certainly, and most days he was more than willing to hold hands and sing kumbayah with the Rose and Hunt but not always.

Using this guy Evan for this didn't bother him and his favorite hacker liked the guy alot. If Evan wanted to mention what he found to Amir or Mai then he could go right ahead. Jin was likely to have already done so anyway.

"I will tell you what I do need." He reached into the drawer and fished out a very tiny black flash drive this one had a teeny tiny koala stuck on it. Jin raise his eyebrows and then handed it over to Tristan. "Apparently Genesis decided this one is yours. It has encryption and decryption software already loaded, 500 gigabytes of memory and the ability to find or create a wifi signal if necessary."

After giving up the tech toy, he got back to the request.
"Evenhet has more information they are willing to part with but only if we send someone to personally retrieve it." Jin gestured to the flash drive. "You cannot miss their place, two large metal towers with a bridge between them. Security will likely find you but if you happen to see Pak Pao as well" She was likely to be involved in tracking these people down with Bern, at least from the safety of a computer. "I would suggest laying off the romantic charm." Jin looked up at the pictures still on the screen. "That tactic has been tried recently and might land you in a cell next to Jarrod." He looked thoughtful for a moment and then shook his head. There were better ways to get information than getting one of their own people locked in Evenhet's prisons.

"Sooner would be better than later but I suppose you could shower and change first." Jin smiled pleasantly at Tristan. "Anything else I should know?"
Tristan 10 years ago
Tristan nodded they kept track of the clanless back home as well. They were fair game and always more nutritious than your run of the mill human. Clanless didn't tend to live too long but even a young clanless had the stronger richer blood of a vampire. If they were young it wasn't as good was an ancient but wine was always better than water. He just snorted at the idea that Anantya wouldn't notice a group of clanless. Oddly enough in this case clanless would do better solo, they wouldn't attract as much notice, but it was a trade off because living solo meant sacrificing the safety of a group.

"It would be nice to get that lucky wouldn't it?”

He wasn't an expert on Alfred, he'd been brought into this project recently. His intuition said that Alfred was more careful than to approach an established group. He seemed to attract those that -really- needed or wanted the protection Alfred could offer. Anyone already allied with a group, clan or not, wouldn't need Alfred.

"Do I need to watch my hunting so I don't interrupt their work?”

It wasn't often that Tristan went out hunting clanless for dinner but once in a while it was a challenge and he enjoyed it. Tristan, however, didn't want to cause any of his fellow Nightsmen any trouble, or mistakenly chomp them. If they, or their persona, got caught they'd likely just accept the bite, but that didn't mean Tristan wanted to be the one to put them in that position. Working for the Night could be challenging enough without the added risk of something stupid.

Nodding slowly at the idea that the youngest had flipped Tristan decided that he could understand that. The bond between creator and offspring was not instant and not a given. Like any other relationship it took work. For all anyone knew Alfred had kept this Blaise guy in the dark as much, or possibly more, than his clanless recruits.

He grinned and shrugged. It wasn't surprising that the Elder already had people working on piggy backing onto Evenhet's work. From the reputation Evenhet had he wondered how successful they'd be and privately wished the Anantya hacker luck.

"Cheers. Should have figured that was something already under consideration.”

Tristan was pleased to hear it, but he was not embarrassed to have suggested something obvious that was already being done. It was infinatly preferable to suggest something that was being done than not suggest something that should be done that wasn't being handled.

Accepting the koala labeled flash drive Tristan quirked one eyebrow. They were probably the cutest and most common and easily recognizable mascots of his adopted home land, but a wombat or platypus might have been a nice change. Still he smiled, at least they knew he was coming and it was cute.

"Bloody hell. That is a rather lovely toy isn't it? Thank you, I'll keep track of this.”

Without a second thought Tristan put the small drive in his pocket. Although given the rather impressive nature of the device he placed it in the inside pocket of his jacket. That pocket had a zipper and was more secure.

Pleased that the Elder already had something for him to do, and that he was going to get to avoid laying a ton of ground work with Evenhet and stalking Pakpao and the lot re-energized Tristan. The night was still young, he could grab a coffee on the way to these fancy towers and sleep later. Sounded like a plan to him. He also rather wanted to chat with Pakpao as she was apparently an innocent victim, often the victim knew a lot more than the henchman simply because they were looking at things from a different perspective. Maybe if he got extremely lucky he'd get to run into her as well.

Tristan looked rather bewildered at the idea of laying off the charm. It wasn't as if Tristan was in the habit of being sleazy or seducing folks who he needed information from. The Elder looking up at the pictures though made the tumblers click into place.

"Check that. Limited charm and flirting. I don't want to piss Evenhet off in their own house.”

The mention of a shower though made him scratch his head and rub his neck. There was something about air travel that made him feel grungy. It was bad enough he'd reported to the Elder like this, to try and go impress the other clan like this, even on a strictly professional level, was probably a mistake.

"Shower is probably best for all of us. They really cram you in on the planes these days. -Almost- makes the six months at sea a better option. At least you had some elbow room. Almost though... not quite.”

He grinned and resolved to find someone who could tell him what rooms were open, and where the hell his things were. Those were not things one bothered the Elder of the Night about.

"I can be on my way over there in an hour or less if you want to give them a heads up, or I can sneak up on them if you'd rather. It's all good. I'll double check my notes but I think I have you all up to speed. I'll update you if I've forgotten anything.”

Tristan returned the smile but understood what had been said as a dismissal and took his leave of the Elder.

((OOC... out pending response unless that isn't what Jin intended. Are we going to meet Cris now?))
Jin 10 years ago
Jin found their newest resident amusing, intelligent and observant. Those last two qualities didn't always go together. Tristan kept his humor about him even after being on a plan for more than a day. That kind of personality might nominate him for sainthood.

He told his clan mate that he would let someone know that he was coming. It was the polite thing to do but Jin was tempted to let him "sneak up" on the Evenhet just to see how that went.

Christian Bern answered his email and said that he would be waiting. Jin wished Tristan all the best of luck. Though the Security Chief might not be as intimidating as Pak Pao if Tristan talked to her of the whole kidnapping incident the wrong way. Conversational mine field. He probably should have warned Tristan about her current feelings toward her Creator.

Oh well, too late now.

Some things he would just have to discover on his own.
