Let Me Make You An Offer... (attn: Guillaume)

The phone rang a couple times before Britney heard the pick-up. The voice wasn't familiar to her although she knew from the record that she had actually called this one before.

"Good afternoon, my name is Britney and I'm calling to let you know about a fantastic new product on the market. If you or anyone you know has ever experienced problems with pests then we have the solution to your problems! Mice, rats, rabbits, raccoons, you won't have to deal with them anymore when you purchase our new Solar Powered Ultrasonic Animal Repeller. It's safe for the environment and the animals, and it will work miracles in any home or business!"

So far, she hadn't been interrupted. This was a very good sign!
"They come with mounting stakes, or brackets if you want to put them on a wall instead. I recommend buying several, although they will work pretty far, maybe thirty feet. Depending on the size of your home you may need four or five."

She waited eagerly for whoever was listening to either tell her to go to hell, or buy some. Britney hated her job with a passion, but it paid the bills. Her perky demeanor and cheerful tone usually got her enough sales to get a monthly bonus, too.

"I doubt the people who tested them around dogs asked the dogs if they found the sound annoying." Evan pointed out with amusement. He was sure canines could hear the sound just like he and Guillaume could but they got used to it and it probably didn't hurt their ears. Since most of them didn't run around like crazy animals or bleed from any orifaces that meant to the manufacturers that the devices didn't effect dogs and cats.

He looked at his friend and shook his head.
"Nice thought and I am sure they would be great for humans." The person who sold the devices to Guillaume had no way of knowing that their nightclub was frequented by people who could not only hear the sound but by a few that would also find it bothersome.

"You are not the only one." Evan countered Kiyo's statement that he was the only person who had trouble with the devices. He wasn't going to let his boyfriend take the blame for being a trouble maker by just being himself. "There are some others who work for us that would be affected the same way. Angela had particularly keen senses for a vampire so I am sure she would be in the same boat."

Squeezing Kiyoshi tight against him, Evan gave him a pointed look when he tried to compromise and then back down completely. Then he turned to Guillaume. "I think a couple around the trash dumpsters would be fine. The rest of you will just have to work to keep Terminus vermin free.・ He smiled down at his carnivore boyfriend and gave him a little hug. "I can help but I am not eating a possum. Those things are just disgusting. " He would drink from any of them unless he was starving. That was not the nature of a vampire.

Now Guillaume had a lot of pest repelling devices and needed somewhere to put them. The problem was that most everywhere that they were going to frequent would involve werewolves and vampires who might have a problem with the things.

"How about placing the rest around the shipping yard?" It was owned by Guillaume's pack and was used to ship all kinds of things across the nation. Some of those things were even legal. But it also was not frequented by their kind all the time. They could turn the things on when no one was there and flip the switches off if someone was there who minded. "Tavi might know someone who would know if that was okay. " She and a few others tended to be who he dealt with in Nachton when people needed a way out of the country; the shipyard was one of the places they tended to meet.

"No, no, no..."

Navid said dismissing the idea that they could just leave them up and Kiyo could deal with them. Even if it wasn't for the other staff members and patrons he wouldn't have suggested letting Kiyo just suck it up any more than he would suggest that he should eat a raw steak.

He snorted at the idea of working to keep the place free of vermin.

"If you won't eat a possum what makes you think we will? And rats? Far too much fur and too little meat and they bite. I'll just make sure we stay on good terms with the exterminator."

They'd get a cat before he started stalking and eating some of the things that might get into the trash, rabbits were about as rodent oriented as he would get. It was probably part of his aversion to raw meat but Navid tended to be a rather picky hunter unless there were others to indulge in whatever they brought down.

As both Kiyo and Evan worked to make sure his purchase wasn't completely useless Navid grinned. He appreciated that, he'd just have to make sure to get money back guarantees from now on or just order one or two and then come back for the big discount later. It wasn't a lost cause, he'd just have to work on his negotiating techniques from now on.

"I think we can deal with just one or two around the trash and a couple of back ups in storage in case they go bad. We just won't have them all on at the same time."

Nodding thoughtfully he turned Evan's suggestion around in his head. That made as much sense as anything. Even if they kept a few back ups ten or fifteen ought to be more than enough around the shipping yards, maybe it wouldn't manage to keep the vermin away from the whole area but they were rather portable they could be placed where needed and moved were they'd do the most good, depending on what was being shipped and such.

"That isn't a bad idea. Let's get most of them back in and we'll chat with Tavi the next time she's about."

Kiyo leaned against Evan when his partner didn't let him shoulder any blame alone. It was sweet of him, and it was what Kiyo was coming to expect from Evan as just part of who he was, part of being together. He slipped his hand into Evan's and squeezed it surreptitiously.

Guillaume, to his credit, didn't seem upset with Kiyo in the least for whining about the repellers. He didn't seem to like the idea of eating rat or possum but Kiyo didn't mind it. He'd eaten worse when he was in dire straits. Besides, he didn't have to consume what he hunted although that would be wasteful and Kiyo was much more aware of waste, after spending to much time with Evan. He was starting to absorb his boyfriend's principles and practices, and he didn't think there was much merit in killing what he wouldn't eat. he did tilt his head up and nod at Evan.

"I could run here some nights," he said. "It might be that my scent is enough to keep a lot of them away."

Not under the full moon, of course, but Kiyo was willing to shift on another night long enough to spread his scent around. Maybe Guillaume would too. It might serve as a deterrent for all but the most persistent of vermin. Kiyo normally hated to Change, but there was a reason for it this time.

Kiyo began to feel much better about being the squeaky wheel when neither of his companions dwelled on his part in it. Evan came up with an idea that Guillaume agreed with, and there was no need for Kiyo to add anything further. He couldn't think of anything more appropriate to interject. Instead he gave a light tug to Evan's hand, willing him away very subtly so Guillaume wouldn't see it. It was past time for them to be at work, anyway, and Kiyo had a very strong work ethic particularly when it came to Terminus. He loved it here, and being the slightest bit late bothered him even when it was obvious that he clearly wasn't about to get in trouble with either of the bosses.

Evan rolled his eyes at Guillaume when he immediately assumed that the comment about hunting and eating the pests was directed at him. "I wasn't suggesting you eat them. You've got snotty French blood in you so I couldn't imagine that 'street chicken' or its bigger greasier cousin would be palatable...then again you guys -do- eat snails.” In all his winters as a human he had never felt it necessary to eat those, lizards maybe but never a snail.

He had been talking to his more carnivorous partner and those who shared his particular taste in meals. Maybe they also wouldn't find possum all that tasty but they also probably wouldn't find it as unpleasant as many people who would have cooked them would have.
"Besides you don't have to eat them. I am sure we can find something to do with them.” Use them for bait for larger animals or to feed some larger animals or something. There was no need to waste them even if they personally weren't going to consume them.

Kiyo offered a solution to that and he smiled.
"That might be plenty. Especially if there was a whole bunch of wolves around here. I am afraid my own animal scent doesn't inspire fear. It should.” He puffed up his chest. "but it doesn't. I have had to convince more than one hawk that he was making a fatal mistake by messing with me.” Vampire bird had a serious peck. It tended to be quite the surprise.

With a plan for the devices sorted out, they could get back to the business of the business. He felt Kiyo tugging gently on his hand and Evan squeezed it return.

"Let us know if you need help with these. We've got to go. It is almost time for the changing of the guard.”
Guillaume 10 years ago
"I could detour by the dumpsters myself."

Navid agreed with Kiyoshi. He did occasionally return to Terminus on four feet, it was just easier than leaving his car somewhere and picking it up after. He just didn't always go by the dumpsters, sometimes, but not always. Kiyo was right if he were just a bit more deliberate that would help.

He cheerfully snorted at Evan. The mulo knew full well he was a half breed and he was playing with it. Pity Evan didn't indulge in food too often, Guillaume would cheerfully and quite literally make his friend eat those words. All in good fun of course.

"Yes well ask my mother what she'd make for dinner some nights. Makes the snails look rather normal. Still neither is enough to tempt me with possum."

Truthfully he preferred Arabic cuisine to French. When he cooked those flavors tended to be the ones he used and experimented with, but only when he was away from the rest of his family. When around his father, grandfather and the like Guillaume did his best to blend in and let him forget his Moroccan heritage, it was easier for everyone.

With a wicked grin he playfully shot back at Evan, after he lamented his lack of intimidation while on the wing.

"Perhaps you can perch on one of the dumpsters and molt. The feathers might have an effect."

He still felt bad about the purchase, rather like a fool and very irritated with the sales girl, or at least the company she worked for, but not as much as he had initially. Glancing at his watch and noting the time he just shook his head.

"No. I've got it they shouldn't take long to get down. I'll just leave three around the dumpsters. Kiyo tell me if those are too irritating and we'll try just two."

If they eventually had none, well hopefully Tavi would see they got a good home. Someone must have a use for them some where.

Kiyo nodded at Guillaume. "I'll let you know," he said.

It was kind of his Packmate to take down the offensive devices. Kiyo would have understood if Guillaume argued to keep them up, but a compromise had been reached and Kiyo felt good about that. He had almost sort of stuck to his guns. Okay, maybe Evan had stuck to them mostly but Kiyo was still in the vicinity of the guns, which was an improvement.

They seemed to be finished here so Kiyo went back around the side of the building he and Evan had come from, intending to head into work. First, though, there was the very important matter of showing his appreciation to Evan, who was always ready to support Kiyo.

He wrapped his arms around his tall partner and held him close for a moment. Then, up on his tiptoes, Kiyo pressed a soft kiss to Evan's lips.
"Thanks," he said when he broke away. "It's already a lot better. I know Guillaume was just trying to do good."

He kissed Evan once again, finally settling back down on his own feet. "Love you," he said quietly, with a little smile. Then he turned and headed toward Terminus' back entrance before he could stall any longer, trying to avoid the sonic devices that were still switched on.
