It's 6 am (Attn: Vaughn)

Habit was a powerful thing, her body knew it was time to wake. Without opening her eyes Thérèse stretched, and immediately winced her whole body ached. Any forgetfulness sleep had imparted was lost the night came flooding back to her. The doctor had given her some pain killers, she hadn't touched them maybe she should.

Slowly she became aware that this was not her rooms. The scent was wrong, well not wrong Vaughn was here, that was the arm around her she knew without opening her eyes so that was right, but the sounds weren't what she was used to either. Bleary eyed and still having no idea where she was, just that she was still in yesterday's cloths, Thérèse slowly eased herself from the small bed. She hoped to keep from disturbing him.

Standing she smiled down at him a soft sad smile she wanted to touch him but was afraid she might wake him. If she wasn't already confused enough having lost a child knowing how much he was willing to risk for her, not knowing how she was held, also... God in heaven she wanted him though. Maybe. He'd said it was possible.

Now though, she had to get to work. Part of it was she simply didn't want to think about any of this right now, it was over whelming. The other part was she didn't want her keeper to know anything was out of the ordinary. Thérèse had an unsettling feeling that the creature kept eyes on her most of the time. Quietly she started for the door to fin her rooms for a shower and a change.

"Yes but man invented heels to wear to make him look taller and more regal." Vaughn added immediately. 'And hose...well men wore tights too. My sex cannot be blamed for yours taking up the fashion but... I have to admit I do love a nice pair of legs in high heels." He turned back and glanced her legs before meeting her eyes and giving her a smile. She had long beautiful runner's legs and he would be the first to admit that he found them, and her easy grace, very sexy.

They were out in the middle of the lake now and he slowed and smiled at her. "I can't say that I am upset with missing work myself."

When she asked him very seriously if he would be happy Vaughn stopped rowing. He pulled the oars back into the boat and laid them down. Holding onto the rim, he carefully knelt between the bench seats so that he was closer to her.

"I would have been very happy."

Vaughn looked up into her green eyes, willing her to see the truth written in them. He laid his head in her lap and sighed. "To have a child born from love and to raise it, as a couple united....It would make me very happy indeed."

Sitting back up, he looked at her solemnly, reaching out to gently touch her cheek.

"You'll make a wonderful mother." Not would have, will. They could try again in the future. "When you're ready. I would love to raise a child with you, Therese."

He paused thoughtfully for a moment. "Can we have a girl perhaps?" Tavi was so sweet when she was younger, and he would love the chance to dote unashamed on the next one.

While not a shoe whore Thérèse did tend to wear heals for business. Not today, today she'd picked a pair of comfortable casual sandals. But knowing he was watching, she might play with them a bit more. She didn't say anything though, only half smiled to herself.

She had been starting to relax but when he mentioned his own work she sat bolt upright. Dear god, she'd forgotten. Thérèse violently swore to herself in French. She was just not thinking today. Not even a little bit.

"Mon dieu, will they not miss you? Should we not get you back?"

When he stopped rowing Thérèse didn't even know what to expect, perhaps a gentle let down. Or something else but she was in a less than optimistic mood and was having trouble believing it would be a cheerful response. She quite literally held her breath as she waited and watched him.

It was an odd combination of relief, regret and pain to know he wanted the child. But he was speaking positively and of the future. That kept her from dissolving into tears again. She caught his hand and kissed it softly.

"I would have no objection to that. We shall have to see what the spirits think though."

It would be up to them after all.

But it would all have to wait until after things were resolved with her keeper. Thérèse couldn't even imagine what the creature would do with a child. She paled at the very thought of it.

"No, I called in before taking my shower. Took a personal day for family business." Vaughn smiled. "Its okay."

He smiled when she took his hand and kissed it, nodding that the spirits did indeed hold dominion over whether they got a boy or a girl.

"Hmm, well I suppose we can just keep trying until we get one. Have a whole brood." Vaughn's grin was just a tad wicked when he looked back up at her. "You could be the proud mother of a whole pack of rowdy boys."

Sitting back up on his own bench seat, he looked back at the cooler and the guitar.

"Are you hungry yet? Or shall I entertain you with my amateur attempts at serenading?"

If it made her smile then he would do it. Whatever it took. Vaughn was almost certain that if she asked him to jump in the lake to prove his love for her that he would, despite how terrified even that thought made him. Thankfully he could see no reason for her to want him wet and it was still a bit cool for skinny dipping.
Therese 13 years ago
Family business, she looked at him curiously, not at all displeased but a little shocked how quickly Vaughn seemed to have made up his mind or at least how quickly he was moving once he had made up his mind. It was surprising, but if Thérèse was honest with herself, had he been hesitant... she would have serious doubts about him, about them.

Her eyebrows shot up her forehead at that suggestion. It was... surprising.

"Perhaps... ... we can talk..."

Her eyes gave the impression of smiling even though she wasn't. It wasn't something she was rejecting out of hand but this had not been planed. Nor had she ever truly considered being a mother. It was a lot to take in. But she did appreciate the idea and his teasing.

Food was still not at all appealing to her. Yes some little progress was being made but forgiveness and healing would take some time yet.

"I have not heard you sing."
Vaughn Emiliano 13 years ago
Vaughn laughed softly at Therese's response. It wasn't exactly a no about the prospect of having a whole bunch of boys. He wasn't sure he could handle that himself; though he'd admit that Tobi was very easy to get along with. His two children played well together but they were the same age. Vaughn doubted that they could expect that out of a whole pack of children. Briefly he imagined a large household bustling with the chaos of active happy kids and he and Therese being a part of their lives from ballet to soccer and everything in between.

He nodded to Therese when she chose to wait on eating. Picking up the guitar, he considered for a moment before strumming the intro to a song.

"The crimson sun
dapples the green
leaf and bloom
before me play

Standing alone
I'm half unseen
half unfilled
at dawn of day

Then from the earth
You rise in splendor
source of passion
balance and flame

Both Sun and sky
And I surrender
at your feet my
shield and name."

it wasn't easy to find a good seat that let him play his guitar easily but also let her sit near him. Thérèse settled for stretching out her legs and resting them against his. She leaned back and enjoyed the sun, it was slowly but steadily warming up. She was allowing herself some day dreams about may be in their future.

For the most part though, she simply tried not to think. His voice was smooth and rich and very relaxing. Slowly her shoulders started to unknot and she let herself relax, just a little.

"You should sing more."

She said when he finished.

"I cannot sing and play at the same time."

The violin didn't lend itself to such an activity. But truly she just loved hearing his voice.

"Are you hungry? If you play much more I will fall asleep on you if you continue."

And she really didn't want to do that. The circumstances were not ideal but this was the first time she had had alone with him in a month... two months? Too long.
Vaughn Emiliano 13 years ago
Vaughn finished the song and smiled at her when she said that he should sing more. At least she wasn't jumping overboard and swimming for the shore in an effort to get away. The song was an interesting choice and he loved the words. The chorus.

Before the twilight falls
You and I are bright and green
Before the future calls
You and I stand in between
Fear is a prison, doubt is a wall
kiss me before the twilight falls
Before the twilight falls
Before the twilight falls

spoke of a couple taking a moment to themselves before facing the future. It was an entreaty to Blodeuwedd, and though the situation was different in this case, he loved the words and the meaning.

"No, it is hard to sing while playing the violin."

He set down the guitar again, wondering if she enjoyed his playing or simply didn't want to tell him it was mediocre. It didn't matter at the moment; if she didn't want him to play then he wouldn't.

Vaughn reached in and pulled out a shiny green apple."I'll be good with this for now. Just let me know when you're ready to eat." He took out one of the blankets and placed it on the bench seat so that he created a soft cushion to lean against. Vaughn then sat of the floor of the boat with his legs up on the next bench.

"Come join me?"
Therese 13 years ago
"I should like to play with you some time, but I may need lessons."

The pieces he knew were not ones she was familiar with, it was a perfectly innocent comment. It wasn't until after she said it that she realized the double meaning and blushed darkly a rather becoming shade of pink and looked away.

She had not felt this awkward in a relationship in... possibly ever. Thérèse was used to being calm cool and in control. Around Vaughn she made too many awkward little blunders to look at all sophisticated.

Joining him and immediately curling up against him, craving his touch, that simple easy physical reassurance that she was not being rejected, looked upon with disgust or distain or as a failure. Lightly and without thinking about it she played with his hair, enjoying the feel of it.

"That is not a good breakfast." She chided him slightly. "I cannot have you starving to death."

Weakness was not always something wolves understood or forgave. It was also a good cover and meant she didn't have to mention she wasn't certain she'd ever be able to eat again.

She let several minutes pass in a comfortable silence simply happy to be with him for a change. But eventually the subject had to be broached. Thérèse wasn't certain she would hold him to his promise, no matter how much she wanted it, needed it. But she needed to know how to proceed.

"What is next?"

She asked very hesitantly. They could hide, or attempt to hide, their relationship from the Pack for as long as was necessary, but she needed to know. It was one thing for Antoine to know, he was one person, but to bring this to a more public light....
Vaughn Emiliano 13 years ago
Vaughn looked over at Therese in confusion. He had heard her play and she was quite talented; why would she need lessons? He caught the blush and smiled softly, thinking it was very endearing that she would become flustered around him. Vaughn chose not to tease her about it; perhaps some other time, but not today.

He wrapped his arms around her and held her close. When Therese told him that she could not have him starving to death, Vaughn smiled and replied. "Then you'll just have to eat with me later." He understood that she was distraught and sometimes a person lost their appetite but he also knew that she lost a lot of blood, both from the injuries and from the miscarriage. She needed the food more than he did and if it took refusing to eat without her accompanying him then he'd survive it.

Thinking on her question, Vaughn sighed softly. "Next, I talk to Etta and then we will see. Perhaps she will continue to be alpha with me. Perhaps she'll demand I step down. Either way, I will ask her for a divorce." He and Loretta would both be happier that way; Vaughn was certain of it. " Whatever the outcome. I'm yours."

Knowing that the potential upheaval to the pack would upset her, he added. "It would have happened anyway. I haven't been myself these past few months. I can't be a proper Sarkis while I am longing for you, thinking of you every spare second." Vaughn tilted her chin up a little so that he could see him. "You make me happy, Therese. I feel whole when I'm with you and if I do that for you...then there's nothing I wouldn't give up to make certain that we can be together."
Therese 13 years ago
Unabashedly she leaned into his embrace, sighing happily. It was such a new feeling and yet it seemed so comfortable, comforting and familiar. They had only been lovers once and should be tearing at each other's clothes, that would undoubtedly come later, Thérèse felt that this boded well for the future. It was evidence that it wasn't just physical attraction, they could build on that.

She was torn on this point. Thérèse loathed the idea of tearing a family apart, but at the same time she didn't like the idea of playing second fiddle. Instead she considered this from many angles and nodded. It would, perhaps, be best if the two of them remained at the head of the Pack. It was more typical that a mated pair would lead but other combinations weren't unheard of, just rare. Thérèse could only hope that it would work.

"I cannot put into words how you make me feel. I have cried on more shoulders than I care to think about trying to work out how to do without you, I couldn't do it.

She couldn't tell him about sleeping in or with his sweat shirt, about doing her best to work out his schedule so she could avoid him because she was afraid of doing something stupid. No. it was... slightly embarrassing.

"What do you need from me in all of this?

It was both a statement of fact, she would not let him face this or deal with the fall out alone. It was also the most diplomatic Thérèse could be. But there were details to work out here. She could be a bit possessive and was doing her best not to snarl at the idea he would be going back to sharing rooms with his wife, sharing a bed. No, if he was hers then she wanted him she did not share well.

Beyond that there was a matter of tact, right now her status in the Pack could get... complicated. So long as he remained the Alpha she was safe but if things did not work out that way it could get ugly.

"It all must wait until you have resolved things with her though...

It had to. To act on anything prematurely would be an insult to his wife and could potentially make things even more difficult than they had to be.

Thérèse sighed again, it was a much less satisfied sound this time though. She was just going to have to be patient. It wasn't that much different than hunting, she could do it, she just didn't want to.
Vaughn Emiliano 13 years ago
Vaughn listened to her, somewhat surprised that she had talked to others about him. He didn't think she told anyone who he was and if she did then he was sure she was discreet about it. Vaughn was just more closed off than that. He brooded... a lot. There were many times that he had gone back up to the cabin near here and simply sat and brooded, or played the guitar and brooded. He got plenty of practice over the past few months. Vaughn was very relieved to hear that she couldn't live without him either and wondered if that was the counsel she was given.

"I am glad that you found that you couldn't. Out of curiosity, what advice did they give?"

Thinking of her question, the answer that came immediately to mind was perhaps not the most productive but the most honest. "Your patience and support are the things I need the most. I know this isn't easy on you but until the R'asa knows my decision then I don't want them to be angry with you."

He sighed. "For now we'll need to be discreet but I promise I will talk to Etta tonight if you wish."

Or spend the full day with her, whichever one she preferred. Vaughn wasn't going to leave her today unless she wanted him to talk to Etta immediately.

Vaughn held her close, hoping it was comforting despite his words. "What do you mean, wait?" He was planning on speaking to his wife the first chance he received. Was there something Therese wanted from him today? Or did she think this discussion would take longer.

"After Etta knows then the R'asa needs to know. How its taken by the pack is probably going to depend a great deal on her reaction and what she does publicly." Until then they should be cautious.
Therese 13 years ago
"It was mixed. There were traditionalists who objected to my breaking up a marriage and those who realized that some times the spirits knew a marriage could not stand but wanted me to wait for a decision. No one who will cause us trouble though."

Now that push came to shove she didn't think even Nilkhila would object. Although, should some one mess with her mate Thérèse suspected even the peaceable Indian could be moved to violence. The long and the short of it was though, no one knew who Vaughn was. She would not have admitted that under the most refined of tortures.

Her face was near buried in his chest and she in haled deeply, allowing herself to relax just because he was there.

"When the time is right, that is all I ask. I shall miss you but if the Pack is to fare well then I can wait. It is a small price."

Thérèse snuggled closer, leaving very little room to misunderstand.

"As I said when the time is right, but I shall miss you until then. Even when with her remember you are mine."

It nearly tore her heart out, the idea that someone, not her, had a claim to him. But she would swallow that until the time was right. It was more important that he remain alpha. She didn't need the Alpha, she needed Vaughn, but the Pack needed consistency, needed the alpha to hold steady.

Thérèse nuzzled at his neck, with an odd combination of suggestiveness and innocence.

"Promise to come back to me and she may have her moment, her reaction, I am not afraid. It is you I want, nothing more."

And she wasn't afraid, an angry female was nothing. His wife wasn't at the beck and call of a mulo, she hadn't lost a child to the creatures. Thérèse was stronger than they suspected. And as the only thing she wanted was the man, not the position or power, she would win.
Vaughn Emiliano 13 years ago
"I'm not worried. I'm sure you sought advise from people you could trust." Vaughn smiled down at her. It felt nice to hold her close. The sun now up over the trees shone down on them, burning off the morning mist. He tilted his face to it and closed his eyes.

Her words caused him to open them again. He didn't want her to have to wait but Vaughn was glad that she understood and would be patient for the good of their people. Her loyalty and consideration were admirable. Sometimes the strongest minded of them tended to be the most selfish but Therese cared for the R'asa.

The last statement, made while she snuggled close to him, caused his breath catch. He looked down at her for the longest moment. The audacity of telling the Alpha of Vyusher that he was her's was surprising. Vaughn took in the sight of her, the smell of her so close and the feeling of love and contentment he felt while she was resting against his side.

Tilting her chin up so that he could see those lovely green eyes, Vaughn replied quietly. "I've known that for some time now. I won't forget who possesses my heart." He leaned down and kissed her tenderly, lingering just before breaking away, feeling the warmth of her soft lips barely touching his own.

He held her closer with a soft hum of approval when Therese gently nuzzled into his neck. Her words were a balm for a fear he did not truly feel but the R'asa would certainly ask. Hearing her say that it was him that she wanted and not his position was soothing to his soul. "Its me you have."

Vaughn couldn't guarantee that she had the love of the Alpha for very long but he could say with a certainty that she had him.
Therese 13 years ago
She didn't want to think about how long this all would take, how long they would have to go on hiding. It was depressing, so much was depressing right now, and now she would be alone again. Thérèse willed herself to think of the end result. It would be worth it, she could not be selfish. It would work out.

It was easy to lose herself in that quietly reassuring look and his words helped. She didn't doubt him for a second and melted into soft kiss. It wasn't going to be easy while they waited and honestly Thérèse didn't know how much they would get to see of each other until things were resolved. But, she trusted in that kiss.

"And you me. This will work."

It was said as much to reassure herself as anything Thérèse had no illusions this could get ugly. For now though, for this moment she was happy. She stifled a yawn, but didn't leave his side. Neither of them had gotten much sleep last night, and her's had been troubled at that but she refused to give into sleep. No it meant too much to just be held by him.

"I am sorry."

She still didn't know why he wasn't holding this against her. By right, he should this should have been an end not a beginning. But she was equally certain she would get it right next time.
Vaughn Emiliano 13 years ago
"I am sure that it will." Vaughn spoke with a quiet confidence. He was sure that their relationship would work. He was not certain of the results of everyone knowing about it but he did know that they could weather those together. So long as Therese was with him then everything would be okay.

There were things that he needed to ask her, things that he needed to know the answer to. As her Alpha he should have demanded those answers a long time ago but he wanted her to tell him. Antoine told him about the attack on the woman with the man that Therese had been following. The Legionnaire explained they were Kadzait, or at least the male was. Why would she attack him and the woman? It had been troubling him but he didn't find Antoine's theory of an ex-lover to be the right one and the Frenchman agreed that even he was skeptical. He said Therese did not behave as though she had been jilted. She left quickly after jumping at the woman with the dog. It seemed almost like a warning, whether it was a warning to stay away from the man or something else...that they couldn't figure out.

But now was not the time.

Therese yawned and he smiled at her. When she apologized he assumed that it was for being tired. "It is all right. Sleep if you want to. I would love to simply sit here and hold you." He patted his lap, offering himself as a makeshift bed, more comfortable perhaps than where she was currently.

"Its okay. We will have many long years together."
Therese 13 years ago
That was two of them, it was the rest of the pack that was the problem now. Thérèse's greatest worry right now was that something would happen to force Vaughn out of Nachton. She could not, physically could not follow. It was like he had her on a leash. She couldn't run from him.

By allowing herself to become involved with Vaughn she'd placed him in danger. There was little doubt in Thérèse's mind that the mulo would love to have control over the may or, worse yet the alpha. She was going to have to do something about this. Her message had gone astray and Thérèse realized she her next attempt was going to have to be dramatic, desperate. She just hadn't worked out what yet. She did want to leave the Kadzait out of this if she could help it though. She'd rather be at peace with their own kind. Perhaps... Evenhet? It was worth considering.

But her brain was acting sluggishly thanks to her lack of sleep. It was just as well he'd miss understood, or had he? Thérèse wasn't certain. Rather than obsess over it though she climbed into his lap. She was still a bit stiff and the boat did rock more than she would have liked but the end result was perfect.

"You might have to wake me if your legs go to sleep."

Her eyes closed again and just being with him helped her find some little bit of peace and she half dozed. Thérèse wouldn't let herself go to sleep entirely, she fought it.
Vaughn Emiliano 13 years ago
Vaughn clung to the sides of the boat when she moved. For a moment he prayed to all the good spirits that he stay safely inside the craft. She hadn't rocked it horribly, he was able to remain mostly calm; the white knuckles with a death grip on the wood would be the only outward indication that there was something possibly wrong.

Once Therese was settled again, Vaughn piled her side of the blanket that had been behind them over his portion. Leaning back on the, now higher, pillow, he wrapped his arms around her. It felt good to hold her and watch her doze. He brushed her hair gently away from her face and lightly stroked her back in long gentle movements. For long while he took in every detail, how she looked, the comforting weight of her, the shower clean scent; he memorized every detail until he was reassured that he was not dreaming and that she would be there when he woke. The boat drifted gently on the water and its soothing motion took its toll on him. Eventually he closed his eyes and drifted into a light peaceful sleep.
