A Lesson in Trust (attn: Eiryk)

Alexander leaned back, his weight bearing down on the climbing harness he wore, climbing rope held in both hands, his right hand up to feed out the rope and his left down by his thigh to smooth it as it came through. The balls of his feet rested on the ground but the rest of his weight was suspended by the harness and its counterbalancing weight.

He looked up, watching with amusement as Eiryk clung to the wall about twenty feet above him, making his way up an inverse but looking somewhat stuck.

"Up and to your right. The small blue grip," Alex advised.

They were in an excellent climbing gym where Alex was showing Eiryk exactly what rock climbing was all about. Naturally Eiryk had immediately known how to tie the perfect knot in his climbing rope, and Alex had to admit it was sort of yummy watching the ease with which he scaled the walls. This was a difficult one, however, and Alex had to wonder if coordination might fail Eiryk. It hadn't yet; he was doing fine. But the inverse wasn't easy at all.

The gym was enormous. It was one of Alexander;s favorite finds since coming to the city. Three stories of walls of all kinds, all levels, all difficulties, including a really good bouldering wall to traverse. He'd been visiting since his first week here, having dropped by early on to deliver business cards since he sold climbing gear at his store. It was natural for him to share his enjoyment of it with Eiryk; now that he knew why Eiryk hadn't accepted his invitations before, Alexander had become very good at finding indoor and night time activities for them.

Right now they were up on the third story of the gym, Alex having taken them straight back to the more difficult climbs. It also afforded them some privacy as no one else was here in this section this late at night, save one attendant who knew Alex and therefore wasn't really making the rounds to this area very frequently.

Watching Eiryk, Alex silently encouraged him to reach out and grab the blue grip. It was tricky, but he'd gotten that far.

"You're no fun any more..."

Eiryk lamented at Alex. Not that there was a lot of hair to climb up even if Alex did let it down.

The bouncing took him off guard, but Eiryk also thought it was a great game and did what he could to return the favor. His playful expression fell, like a child who was being denied a favorite toy.

"Work, work, work...."

That seriousness might have been off set by another ass grab. It was amazing how nicely these harnesses showed you were the targets were. Maybe he could get some installed at home. The question was Alex's home or his. It chaffed a little that they didn't have -one- home, but at least they were sharing both sets of digs. It was unusual for them to spend the night... day... whatever... apart.

But Eiryk did find a wall that appealed to him, with a little bit of prep work and some knot tying he was on his way up again.

"If we don't find any baklavah can we just roll you in honey? Or we could make you a binette and try powered sugar... of course that will make a mess. Not that the honey wouldn't..."

Eiryk continued these musings without actually stopping, he continued up the wall not even looking back at Alex, although he was hoping for a blush. The only thing that really gave him pause was another inverse, but it only slowed him down this time rather than dropping him. He was learning.

"I don't know that I ever was," Alex said with a grin toward Eiryk. He definitely had the more low-key demeanor of the two of them. He often wondered what it was Eiryk really saw in him, but he wasn't going to argue.

As Eiryk thought up more and more fantastic ways to turn Alexander into a dessert pastry Alex laughed.
"Up!" he said, cracking the end of his climbing rope like a whip with a laugh. "Before you give me diabetes just thinking about it."

Presently they climbed themselves silly. Alex threw harder and harder walls at Eiryk since, aside from his clumsiness and some technical flaws, there was nothing there he couldn't muscle his way through. In the end Alex was tired and Eiryk looked like he was ready to go running around the next twenty blocks looking for baklava.

So they did that, and they did find some, and Alex managed to not get it all over him in spite of Eiryk's best efforts which included somehow nicking his fork on the table at just the right angle to send it spinning at Alex's head. After that it really was time to go home, where Alex wore Eiryk out in the best (and, really, only) way he knew how.

There was no honey involved but Eiryk didn't complain.
