I like what you did with the place (private)

(Time line - previously - Ignoring the obvious)

Viv looked up at the Duibne Towers as she made her way around to the back of the medical tower and its Emergency entrance. There were cameras everywhere, as well as guards dressed as orderlies. They were serious about their security, Viv decided, but then they had reason to be.

The three orderlies standing near the door, presumably on a smoking break, gave her a cursory glance as she approached. The sun was peeking out from behind dark clouds overhead and she wagered these were the non-fanged variety. Viv winked at them as she pulled at the door and let herself inside.

No one ever said anything to her when she showed up to see Charlie. Don't misunderstand, they were polite as pie, but it was obvious they were keeping their distance from her and the Pipers. Like what they had was a taint that could easily be transmitted. It made her smile when they pushed her ID badge toward her from the front desk instead of just handing it to her. Still, Viv was polite and always friendly, even if they only ever replied with just a small smile.

The badge gave her a reasonable limit of access to the medical floor Charlie was on - sub 4. She had no idea how far the elevator went; the numbers only illuminated when passing its corresponding floor. Wondering what they kept in the lower levels intrigued her, but she had no desire to actually be so deep in the earth, in the dark.

Red and LT were on their shift for Charlie that afternoon with Domingo and Marthinus set to relieve them both before dusk. Their scents were not hard to detect and she closed her eyes as she easily maneuvered the steel hallways. Red's scent reminded her of copper, that musky masculine sweat, and hilariously - ginger. LT's scent was pure vanilla and sex. She could not describe it any other way. Maybe that was his appeal, as the second in command. There would be no obvious alternative to LT assuming some sort of position of authority. Much like his uncle, LT walked with a confidence that made men want to be him, women wanted him in them. As a werewolf, Viv's sense of smell only made his presence that much more erotic.

Opening her eyes, she saw LT standing in the hallway outside Charlie's door. There was a chair there but she never saw any of the Pipers sit in it. With a smile, she walked up to the door and leaned on the opposite side of the door frame.

"Roguishly handsome, the tall drink of water watched with piercing blue eyes that betrayed nothing but pain and promises."

LT did, in fact, watch her pass him with those cold, hard eyes but smiled brightly and blushed at her words. "Hi, Viv," he said in a quiet voice.

Viv shook with a tremble and grinned at him. "Seriously, if I was 40 years younger, I'd totally wreck you."

LT's rigid posture broke as he laughed and his blush deepened. "You talk to my uncle like that?"

"Oh," she said with a haughty laugh, "I leave him breathless. I swear it." Opening the door, she gave him a wink as she entered.

Red was sitting in the chair next to Charlie, slowly strumming one of his acoustic guitars. Nothing she could recognize, but it was soft and sweet. "That standard issue, Piper?"

Viv waved him off as he stood to greet her. "Just thought he'd like a little music. He's probably pretty bored in there," Red said with a sad smile.

Viv came over and touched the back of Red's head with an affection that could not be misunderstood. All the Pipers were good boys, making their mothers proud no doubt, and a reassuring touch said more than words could say.

Charlie's skin was still horribly damaged but the rawness was beginning to fade. His thick, dark hair had thinned from the skin damage but she could already see new hair growing. There were a multitude of IV's around his bed and she wondered about the after affects of whatever they were giving him to heal. The Alpha had said he'd wait years, but that certainly wasn't the plan. She would be personally happy just to see Charlie wake up, but Simon promised as good as new, so that definitely was a plus. She still felt horrible.

"So you guys are done in a little bit?" Viv asked stepping closer to Charlie's bed.

"Uh," Red checked his watch, "about an hour or so. You staying?"

Viv pointed upstairs and Red made a face.

Brig Jameson 13 years ago
Brig stepped into the room and immediately regretted it. Directly in front of him was Simon, next to Charlie's bed was Marthinus and on the opposite side was his father, Elder Hammerthynn, and Viv. She was standing in front of her father, Vigo's hands holding onto her shoulders. Brig's hackles tingled at the show of possessiveness with his mate, but as he walked further into the room, he could see the tension between Simon and the Elders.

"Father, Uncle." Viv's scent curled around him, covering him in its soft, flowery notes. The sting of Simon's scent clung to her, but that initial whiff of her scent was always the strongest and easily overpowered everything else in the room, even the pungent smell of silver coming from Marthinus' silver rings.

"Hi, babe," he said softly to Viv who disengaged from her father and moved toward him with a smile meant only for him.

Brig put his arm around her shoulders, replacing Vigo's scent with his own, and bent down to kiss her cheek. In the corner of his eye, Brig saw Vigo slowly drop his hands and ball them into fists.

"What did I miss?" he asked, pulling Viv close to him. Looking at Simon, the vampire raised an eyebrow and gave him a solitary nod.

"Just having a nice chat between new friends."

"I see," Brig said, running his hand down Viv's back, feeling the slope of her body against his. Looking back at Viv, he pulled on her gently to get her attention. She looked back up at him expectantly.

"You wanted me to remind you about your appointment with your doctor."

"Oh, right. We have to go," Viv said looking first at her father and then Simon.

Brig's father looked uncertainly at Vigo. "We won't keep you then."

Viv reached out and touched Simon's hand, making Brig and the Elders tense up at her intimate gesture. "Talk to you later."

Simon reached out with his hand and squeezed her back, much to Brig's dislike. "Gentlemen, was a pleasure. " He then gave a slight bow to everyone in the room and left.

"I'll leave my car. You two ok getting back on your own?"

"I'm not feeble, son," Duncan said with a slightly humored snort.

"I can show you how to use the crazy newfangled GPS if you want, dad," Brig said, grinning, effectively breaking the tension in the room. With a wave, he and Viv left the room.

Duncan Jameson 13 years ago
Duncan made a face and then lifted a hand to his son. Vigo remained silent and still, watching his daughter with a cold eye. He waited for his son and Vivienne to leave and then without looking at Marthinus, he asked, "Marthinus, do you mind excusing the Elder Hammerthynn and I for a few minutes?"

"Not at all," Marthinus said and immediately vacated the room.

Vigo didn't look at Duncan but instead lowered his eye. Duncan took a step forward and then turned to look at his brother in law in the face. He waited for Vigo to look up and after a few moments he finally did. Without a word, Duncan merely raised his eyebrows, silently communicating his question.

Vigo shrugged and lowered his gaze again to the floor.

Duncan had wanted to know what the show of dominance was with Vivienne. In the fifty some odd years Vivienne had been in Vigo's life, that was the first time Duncan ever saw his friend exert any type of male dominance over her in public. It was one thing to show Huntington just where Vivienne's place was, which was certainly not with the vampire, but it was another to act like a jealous male in front of her mate, and that mate happened to be Duncan's son.

"Something you need to say, Vig?"

Vigo answered immediately, "No."

Duncan twisted his tongue in his mouth, touching the tip of it to his canines. "Brig is her mate, Vig. Nothing we can do about that."

"You can stop it."

"What did you say?"

Duncan was still undecided on what he wanted to do about the situation. Ultimately Brig was his oldest son and was well over a century old - he would make his decisions and live by them. He was a man of his word and his word was gold as far as Duncan was concerned. Choosing Vivienne as his mate and mother of his children was not up to the father, but to the son, and Duncan knew he'd accept it eventually, he just didn't trust Viv after Siberia or the timing of the pregnancy. But for Vigo to actually suggest that Duncan put a stop to the relationship was...well it was ridiculous.

"Her place isn't with him. We need her with us."

"No, Vig. You need her." Duncan stepped closer to his best friend and whispered, "And a little too damned much by the look of it."

"She's my daughter, Duncan."

"And Brig is my son. They're in love and she's pregnant. What would you have me do? Why...why would you even have me do anything?"

Vigo was quiet for a moment. "I've never asked anything of you, Duncan."

"No, Vig, you haven't. Don't start now."
Vigo Hammerthynn 13 years ago
Vigo felt the shame in his face, but Vivienne was his daughter. Her place was beside him, and even though she could be gone a good part of the year, she always returned. Now, the Commander was taking her away from him as well as the Alpha reassigning her to Nachton, without even a word. Not only had she fallen in love with someone while on orders from Vigo, she managed to get pregnant. Her life had been in Australia with Vigo and suddenly it was all changing.

"Have you spoken to Brig yet about the situation?"

"Not yet, no. What can I say? I can't ground the boy. I can't come in between them. They're having a baby."

"Exactly, Brig did that to her." Vigo spit the words out in an uncharacteristic show of hubris and disgust. "She needs me."

"Vigo, she is not a child. She's sixty six. She's been married. Twice."

"That was nothing, even I saw that. She's never been pregnant before."

"How do you know?" Duncan asked shocked.

"Because she would have told me. Have Victor take the baby." Duncan's youngest living son Victor saw to the Jameson lineage, contacting descendants around the globe and bringing them into the family. The Piper blood line was strongest with Jameson and Hammerthynn blood, so this was Victor's task. In the past, although not publicly, Victor has seen to the security of Jameson children born outside the family, bringing them to the fold. Nothing illegal, but the families protected their own.

Duncan held up his hands, "Wait, what?"

"We'll keep the baby within the families. They don't need to get married. Eventually Brig will move on, he always does. Viv will forget."

"Are you listening to what you're saying? He'd never do that to her. You've seen them together. It's like nothing I've ever seen."

"It's young love. It'll die and she'll be ex wife number five."

Duncan roared at Vigo, "This is my SON you are talking about!"

"And she is my DAUGHTER. Her place is with me!"

Duncan took a step back and turned away from Vigo. The embarrassment infected Vigo's ego, twisting the truth as he saw it.

His brother in law pointed at him without looking, "You need to sort your shit out, Vigo. She doesn't belong to you. Not anymore. Whether we like it or not. Once you figure that out, you'll see you're not losing her to anyone and in about four months you'll have another grandchild, one we'll share together. Don't fuck this up, Vigo."

Duncan turned away from Vigo and walked out the door, letting Marthinus back in. Vigo stood staring at the ground trying to figure out what to do next.
