He had made the trail a few nights earlier when he had full use of his human sense of long term goals. Now Vaughn followed that clearly marked trail with his wolf nature. The wolf in him knew that it led to food,in a manner of speaking, and expression for the pent up desires to run and bite.

And hunt.

Pausing to check the next scent, Vaughn made certain the largest portion of the pack was still with him. He then turned and set off at a quicker pace. He could smell his goal now even without his previously laid trail though that would keep him on course.

Thanos 17 years ago
The same distance as a human felt much different as a wolf, and Thanos reveled in his seemingly endless bounds of energy in this form. Of course his resources were a pittance compared to Vaughn’s but it still felt nothing short of incredible and exhilarating to run so far and fast.

When the Sarkis stopped Thanos had to focus on stopping with him; it was all too tempting to keep running, to follow the trail to its conclusion.

Sniffing the air, his ears flattened at a familiar scent. Loretta was here, then.

Fortunately Vaughn chose that moment to move forward, and Thanos once again lost himself to the hunt as various smells registered on his senses.
Diane 17 years ago
She stayed towards the middle of the pack as they ran. The human in her was amazed at the way they moved so swiftly and tightly. The wolf knew nothing but.

Scents fresh and old assualted her and her curiosity intensified. The lead began to run faster and she could feel her deep lungs expanding and contracting.

'Such clean breathing.' she thought.

It was an odd statement as well as an odd feeling. It gave her the energy to run harder as she kept pace with the rest of her pack. She still didn't really know who was who, specially when they were in wolf form, so she didn't run full out as she didnt want to get to close to the front of the pack and inadvertantly find out.
Kiril Turasca 17 years ago
He knew pack followed a trail, something not of their form, not necessary. He knew that Sarkis had reason - that was enough. At the end, there would be feasting, and that was enough. The hunt was all the reason he needed tonight.

Later, he would understand. Now, the wind in his hair.
Loretta Emiliano 17 years ago
Loretta rested her muzzle on her paws, her tail flickering back and forth as she waited for the rest of the pack, well hidden behind a car. Some place that –didn’t- stink of oil and metal would have been preferable but her discomfort in this form was fairly minimal. Still, she couldn’t bring herself to hide under the car as she should have; it was just too damn –close- under there. It was dark, and it wouldn’t make a difference.

Where was Vaughn? A part of her understood that she had run ahead of him, and he and his group would take time to catch up, but most of her was impatient and restless. She tended to live from moment to moment at this time, in this form, and so while she did not exactly regret her choice to follow her impulses and run ahead, she was frustrated, and not just with her husband.

Her ears perked up and her nostrils flared as her brethren came into range, and it was sorely tempting to howl triumphantly. She kept up a relentless chant in her mind, insisting that it was not yet time, but soon, soon, soon.
Vaughn Emiliano 17 years ago
Vaughn slowed and he drew close to their destination. He could smell the others of the pack that had joined his wife. She stood out to him amongst the rest; perhaps it was the long familiarity or perhaps it was just Etta. He would not be at all surprised that everyone sensed her as strongly as he did. She stepped out from behind a car when they approached.

The dockyard was quiet in the still chilly air. He crouched low and waited for the others to collect around him before they moved forward. A large part of him wanted to rush in now but he needed to hold his ground and wait until they were ready to move together. It was part of hunting as a pack and every instinct told him that there was strength to be had in numbers.

He gave a soft impatient snort.
Loretta Emiliano 17 years ago
Loretta walked slowly around the car as her husband approached, her head lowered but with no other indication of aggression. This was downright friendly for her; she was excited and Vaughn’s arrival made her moreso.

In their human forms they had carefully chosen which dock they would attack to send the strongest message. Not the largest of the smuggling rings, not yet, but neither should they attack the weakest. Finally they had agreed upon one owned by a family that, while powerful in other areas, was just starting up here in Nachton. They had a better start up than many established groups – several speed boats and innumerable contacts along with a fair chunk of capital ensured that – but they fell in the center of the pecking order by virtue of time served. The implications of this choice were many – they could send a quick, clear message of dominance without actually bringing down anyone established. Repercussion for their destruction tonight would be slow in coming, giving them time to grow even stronger.

They would get to inflict an impressive amount of damage on a target that would not quickly strike back, and they would make as many friends as enemies doing it.

Perfect.

Once they had made their decision, they waited, saving this target for the time when they were at their most feral. Now, Loretta was only dimly aware of the larger purposes for their being here. What was important in the now was that tonight, they would tear these docks to pieces. No man would be left alive, of course, and everything would be destroyed.

Stepping closer, Loretta snapped her jaws at Vaughn, flirting while the rest of the pack gathered. For Thanos she had only a low growl; she didn’t know why he was here and she didn’t care.

Once she saw the orderly formation that could only be The Legion in the distance, she decided they were gathered enough to be on their way. For this they would need stealth, but Loretta wasn’t worried; they would help each other, the more disciplined members of the pack keeping any restless ones in line.

They would need to go down to the end of the street, which led directly to the driveway of a large brick warehouse. The cars and trucks, and then the building proper, would give them cover if they all kept in line.

Taking the lead now, though Vaughn was very near, she ran swiftly along the designated path, hugging the dark edges until she came to the corner of the warehouse. From here she could look down the steep hill and onto the dock itself.

A strip of concrete wide enough to drive two vehicles side by side thrusted outward into the black water, from which floating docks jutted out like limbs. The immediate area was dimly lit and surrounded by inky darkness; from a distance this dock was a blurry glow on the horizon. Several speedboats floated and bobbed in the water, tied down securely for the night. In the center of the walkway there was a small office with windows on all sides. The lights were off, but Loretta spotted a flash of green that could mean night vision goggles.

The hill sloped down directly to the concert walk, with only a fence to act as a barrier. Loretta was pleased to see that two of the Vyusher in her group had taken care of that very minor problem; a neat tunnel had been dug under the fence.

Lowering her head to mask her own impatience, she waited a moment longer before swiftly, silently, running down the slope toward the fence.

Thanos 17 years ago
Thanos subconsciously stepped a little closer to Vaughn when Loretta approached, though it was uncertain whether he did so to assert his place in the hierarchy or to defend the Alpha from an aggressive female.

Really, either explanation fit.

His lip curled up at her snarl, but he remained silent, knowing how easy it would be to escalate this to a full blown fight. Loretta never thought of consequences like that when she acted, in any of her forms.

He let several of his packmates go in front of him before he fell in line, to give himself some distance from the Savia. Keeping his head low and his lean, sleek body close to the cars, he moved swiftly to the warehouse, where they paused once more. It seemed they stopped for an age before suddenly Etta disappeared down the hill, and the other wolves followed in a stream.
Diane 17 years ago
Something was happening up ahead and they had all stopped. She waited patiently until the others were back in motion. As she quietly slipped along the building walls careful to mimic her other packmates in their caution, she noticed a grey vyusher had paused to let a few of them pass. It was the Jiro. She recognized his scent from the night at the campfire when he had introduced himself to them. It gave her comfort to find a familiar being amongst the crowd. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him step back into line a few members back. They were silent and fluid in their movements forward as they followed what could only be the Sarkis and Savia at the front of the pack.
Polemarch Latzu 17 years ago
Already there was blood in the air, and although in this case the blood flowed from one of his own, it was a sweet smell tonight. The young soldier whose muzzle was liberally dripping blood likely didn’t think so, but Latzu knew he would be fine, and perhaps he would learn a lesson about running where he was not supposed to run.

Otherwise his legionaries had made the run without incident, and it would appear the civilians had run into little enough trouble as well. The Legion fanned out, covering the runners as they made their way to the fence before following in line.

This was not a military operation per say, but as it was military assisted Latzu insisted that all of his soldiers behave with the utmost of discipline, full moon or no. He could and did expect them to stop when he stopped, move when he moved, and avoid succumbing to any sudden urges toward individuality. One Legionnaire had already paid the price for a loss of control and Latzu expected no repeat incidents.
Vaughn Emiliano 17 years ago
Vaughn huffed a muffled affectionate noise that was too soft to be heard by anyone safe those nearby; though he refrained from snapping back at her difficult as it was. The urge for blood lust would be replaced by a different sort of lust and they would lose track of their goal under the power of the full moon. Shaking himself, he stood and looked around at the others gathering up around him.

Thanos was a supportive familiar scent next to him and he turned to see his friend giving his wife a small snarl by way of greeting. Snorting at the pair of them, Vaughn checked on the others and found that everyone had arrived. Now was the time.

Etta moved ahead towards the opening in the fence and he watched a few follow before catching up and joining his wife in leading this pack in the hunt. The saying goes that the city is an 'Urban Jungle' that will eat you alive. Vaughn suspected that tonight one family would find out that the statement could be quite literal.
Polemarch Latzu 17 years ago
Latzu came out on the other side of the fence and, rather than approaching the strip of concrete that made up the body of the dock, ran briskly along the perimeter with about half of the army behind him. His Taxis would go around the right side and into the water, while the other, led by the Argentum Strategos, would head left but stay on land. Their job was to catch the runners and then close in to clean up. Perhaps not the most glamorous of jobs but it could get exciting and certainly had its perks.

He paused at the water's edge, waiting for any stragglers to catch up, then plunged into the freezing cold water, grateful for his warm coat. Latzu firmly believed in not ordering anyone to do anything he wasn't willing to do himself, but his 'lead by example' philosophy was a real pain in the ass tonight - he'd much rather have the land Taxis and some warmth. On the upside, though, the runners were more likely to head for their boats than out to land, so the wet team would probably see some action tonight.

Paddling along through the water, he approached one of the speedboats and, with a bit of a struggle with the ladder, managed to scramble his way up to the deck where he would lie in wait for his prey.

Loretta Emiliano 17 years ago
Swiftly and silently Loretta ran down the hill, straight toward the dock, but she slowed to a prowling walk when she was just out of range of the bright lights. Vaughn was beside her now, which was as it should be - it felt right to commence this slaughter together, at each other’s side.

Her head lowered and her hackles raised, she stepped into the light, revealing herself to anyone watching.

It was time.

She threw back her head, feeling a rare moment of truly exuberant joy, and let out a primal howl that would make the dock worker's blood run cold.

Then she charged.
Thanos 17 years ago
Thanos kept in the middle as they trotted the rest of the way down the hill; he was eager to attack their prey but disciplined enough to wait. To either side the Legionnaires streamed out and disappeared into the night, while in front and behind him the Vyusher R’asa formed a direct line to the docks. It was a thrilling sight, knowing what they were about to do, and he felt his pace quicken almost without realizing it.

At the Savia’s howl he broke into a run, feeling his pulse race as everything primal and fierce in him was set free. Passing Etta almost without noticing her, he honed in on the first human he saw, jumping up in a twisted parody of friendliness and putting his paws on the man's chest before tearing out his throat.

Donald was supposed to be watching the water for signs of stealth boats invading their territory. He was, however, only half paying attention, as the porn in his lap was so much more interesting. Come on, what else was he supposed to do inside a dark office in the middle of a fucking dock?

It was pure coincidence that made him turn his head in time to see something moving in the dark, approaching the dock. He’d had an itch on a hard to reach spot of his back and was twisting around awkwardly trying to get to it, was all, but at that sign of movement he froze, watching through his goggles.

What was that?

The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end as his mind raced through possibilities. Too small to be people…must be some kind of animal…too big to be raccoons…drug dogs? Shit, they were so fucked.

Then the first animal stepped into the light and he got his first good look at him (her, of course, but he didn’t know that and assumed anything that dangerous looking had to be of the male persuasion).

He heard a howl, impossibly loud and clear, almost painfully so, and several more wolves stepped out of the shadows.

Something hot and acrid was running down his leg.

Oh. Dear. God.

He scrambled out of his seat, fumbling for the door, choking out 'wolves, -wolves' over and over but not getting above a strained whisper as he struggled with the handle. Finally finding it and practically throwing himself out of the booth, he staggared out onto the platform and threw his head back in a full out scream.

"WOLVES!"

The shout was, however, sharply cut off by the rough wet sound of his throat being torn from his neck. Blood splashed on the concrete.

The slaughter had begun.

Winding through the obstacles, Kiril sought his own prey. The man from the box was mobbed by the time he'd reached him. Hearing the sound of tromping human feet in the distance, he found a crawlspace as the opposing pack moved by. One was slower than the others, circulation poor from sedentary labors. Leaping out as the man passed, Kiril ripped at the mass of flesh behind his knees. The man screamed as he fell. The noise was bothersome, and ended quickly.

There were shouts of surprise and pain from the rest of the human pack as the others converged. Remembering that he was not supposed to eat until the rest of the human pack had been dispatched, Kiril marked his kill. He would help his family, then return for this meat. There would be plenty this evening, but it was always best to be clear on these things.

She kept with the pack even when things started to get chaotic. Knowing to do what she did best , she watched for strays. Humans who thought they could sneak up on them and perhaps fire off a shot.

It was silly really, to think you could surprize a wolf. They werent just ordinary wolfs either, but it wasnt like the humans would know that. She heard the sound of heavy footsteps trying to be light to the left of one of her brothers. With a snarl she lept over his back and into the shadows, landing into the face of one ugly man. He bellowed and let out a scream so terrifid it even made her panic briefly. Witha quick snap of her jaw she punctured many holes into his throat. Blood and air escaped his thrashing body. Anotehr tear of his muzzle he stopped his thrashing and finally lied still.
Vaughn Emiliano 17 years ago
In the midst of the chaos Vaughn spotted a man with the fore thought to use the fire arm that he was carrying. The man was standing behind a car and had yet to be noticed in the main assault. Surely if he had been moving or had tried to get away then he would have been more quickly dealt with but staying still had afforded him a brief reprieve from the slaughter. At this moment he was targeting a wolf who had felled one of the humans and was busy making sure their victim would never rise again. The weapon would not have caused any lasting damage to the Vyusher that the assailant had it aimed towards but it was still a weapon pointed and about to be used on one of his own.

He ran almost directly for his victim counting on his speed and not being the original target to allow him to get close before being noticed. By the time the man saw him, Vaughn had ducked low and used the vehicle as his cover as well. Crawling under the car, he darted his head out quickly. He grabbed the man by the ankle and pulled him off his feet, dragging his prey under the automobile. If the firearm wasn't lost in the surprise then at least it would be hard to maneuver in the tight clearance. Dispatching the victim from there was rather quick and the Sarkis crawled out from under the vehicle to take stock of the carnage in progress.

Thanos had come to his side and after a moment's pause, Vaughn looked at the Jiro and gave a short bark. There was important prey still to be had. His wife was reveling in the speed of the chase and the thrill of the hunt and Vaughn would not deny her that pleasure. His heart thrilled at taking down the master of the operation, the one who wielded the power and planned the strategies. He enjoyed the battle of wills, though in this case it was sheer brawn, with other leaders. What had they planned for? What would be their priority in an attack? These questions were not n his mind at present but they would be later. For this reason, his target was the large yacht moored to the dock, floating home to the owner of this 'shipping' business.

Davey had always prided himself on having a certain presence of mind, and so when the pack of wolves had come flooding onto the dock (and how weird was –that-?), he was quick to run for the nearest boat that would get him the hell out of there. His buddies? Eh, fuck ‘em – Davey just wanted to save his own ass.

Ironically, it was this very part of his well sculpted anatomy that the wolf tore a huge chunk out of before a second wolf ripped off his arm. So much for his great escape – and even if he had wanted to, he couldn’t have warned the others that the beasts were waiting in the boats as well.
Polemarch Latzu 17 years ago
Latzu gave a violent shake of his fur, spraying blood and water all over the deck of the once white speedboat. All around him, humans were dying; the scent of blood was thick in the air, and his respite from the carnage was quite temporary. His keen hearing easily picked up the sound of a splash over the screams and wails, and just that quickly he was jumping into the freezing water after his latest victim.
Stranger 17 years ago
Darren awkwardly toddled after his best pal Davey, shouting at the top of his voice.

“Davvvvveeeey! Wait up, man, you gotta wait up!”

It didn’t seem that his friend could hear him, though – Davey just kept running up ahead, jumping into a boat and starting it up to speed away. Maybe he could still make it, though! Surely Davey would wait for him…

But it seemed Darren had been forgotten – the boat started to go away, leaving him quite literally to the wolves. In a panic, he tried to jump for it, and came nowhere close to making it onboard.

If he realized that Davey had made it only a few feet further than him, he might have found that comforting. As it was, he was torn limb from limb under the cold black water, and his last thoughts were of loyalty and abandonment.
