Information Super Highway (attn Mischa)

Tobi was not, technically, supposed to be here, but standing around waiting for a package seemed like much less work than troubleshooting the new database. To be fair, there was also a mild amount of sincere curiosity, some little spark that never fully went away when doing something for the Highway, even when it was just hanging out to pick up a thumb drive. He leaned against the front desk, speaking quietly to the receptionist and trying to get a respectable view down her shirt. This was surprisingly easy from his angle but, to his disappointment, there wasn't much to see. Eventually he gave up and since the woman behind the counter, who looked about thirty but could be older, actually had work to do, he settled for surfing around on his laptop while he waited.

Tobi looked down with an ‘aw shucks’ sort of expression when Mischa declared him charming, though internally he was wondering if ‘charming’ really meant ‘very very gay’. Well, no use dwelling over it.

He tried to keep his eyerolling at Thanos’s greeting to a minimum, which in this case meant he sort of half pretended to look up at the ceiling while he mimicked Thanos in his head. ‘Thank you for answering the call. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go meditate, for I am Zen Master Jiro Thanos.’

Alright, maybe a little more hostile than the guy was worth; it just grated Tobi’s nerves when Thanos acted all ‘in charge’ and formal around him, like he was rubbing his authority (that he only had because of dad, anyway) in his face. Just because he was above all that petty shit didn’t mean it wasn’t obnoxious when someone went out of their way to get to you.

“So yeah, -anyway-…we’re going to go get Mischa some office space, right?”

Hopefully Mischa wouldn’t decide she’d rather stay and talk to Thanos, though with his luck he wouldn’t be surprised if she did.

"Spasiba, Comrade Thanos. Your words of welcome are most resassuring."

His grip was strong, masculine. Mischa approved.

"
Comrade Tobi is right, we are searching for office space to securely store my goods. It would however, be pleasant to speak with you again Comrade Thanos. As I am the 'new fish' so to speak. It was a pleasure meeting you."

Thanos gave Mischa a slightly warmer smile than before, finding there was something intangible that he liked about her. “My time is yours; I’m sure I’ll be seeing you again soon.” He gave a wave as he turned to head back to his staff. “The pleasure was all mine. Tobi…”

Thinking that was all the goodbye Tobi needed, he started off to rejoin the gaggle of people ready to tell him more than he ever wanted to know.

Tobi took the goodbye noises all parties were making as an indication that they could get going on their separate ways, and started for elevators. Before he could get far, though, he remembered something and turned around, shouting down the hall.

“Hey Thanos! Mom wanted you to come to dinner!” He gave a thumbs up to punctuate the statement, then turned back to Mischa.

“This way; we want the basement.”

Taking the lead once more, it occured to him, for a moment, that perhaps Mom -hadn't- wanted Thanos there. He seemed to remember them talking about inviting him but the salient details of that conversation escaped him...

...ah well. Who listened to -every- part of the conversation anyway?

Thanos turned around once again when Tobi shouted after him, trying to keep the annoyance out of his expression. For fuck’s sake, people were trying to –work- here, though he knew that was a foreign concept to Tobi.

He had to admit that he was surprised to be getting a dinner invitation, and wondered, as always, what sort of game Loretta was playing. Well, he supposed he would find out soon enough; it wasn’t as though he could say no.

Sighing and wishing just one day could be solely about taking care of his pack, he turned back to his staffers.

“Alright. Where did we leave off?”

To the basement then, Mischa thought to herself, as she followed Tobi along the corridors. She smiled at the mention of dinner when Tobi called after Thanos.

"So does that invitation extend to cooking shy Russian women?"

Leading the way into the elevators, Tobi gave a snort of derisive laughter at Mischa's question, thinking she obviously didn't know what she'd be getting into. "Li' ha' eer, you don't want to come to this thing, -trust- me. Family dinner. Seriously weird but mom insists."Â?

He actually didn't mind getting together with family but it didn't seem 'cool' to mention it. And it -would- be weird for anyone who didn't get their family dynamic. Almost, but not quite, dysfunctional. That was the Emilianos.

It wasn't until he'd so offhandedly responded that he realized she was hinting at dinner...together...

Naw, no way did she mean....she meant she wanted to meet his parents...right?

Crap!

"But, uh, if you were looking for a meal...sometime...yeah..."Â?

Hoping that cleared matters up, he stepped out of the elevator on the first below ground level, trying to chat away the embarrassing moment.

"Leomel can get us set up; he's with the security office. That's where we're headed now, it's just down here. You can get your badge and tell them what you need, there should be plenty of room."Â?

With that, he opened the door to the aforementioned security office and stepped inside, heading for Leomel's office with the confidence of one who could generally go where he pleased. With only a precursory knock on the office door, he breezed in and made himself comfortable by leaning on the desk.

"Sup Leo? Can I get a SCIF room?"Â? Leo nodded without looking up from his Tetris game and tossed him a temporary badge and a number key, both of which Tobi caught somewhat awkwardly against his chest. "Thanks dude, hey this is Mischa, think you can take care of her? She needs secure space and...probably other stuff too."Â? The 'her' finally got Leo to look up, and he smiled, nodding stupidly.

'Yeah, come on in; let's get you set up.'

Tobi stepped aside to let those two conduct their business, thinking he should probably get out of the way and get his own stuff done, but wanting to make sure Mischa got what she needed.

/ooc feel free to run Leo's responses. Tobi'll stick around for a bit to make sure Mischa is well taken care of but I'm assuming Mischa can make her arrangements from here (within reason - she can't have a nuclear reactor )

Mischa nodded at Leo and turned to Tobi. "You're very useful man to know, Comrade Tobi."

She kissed him roughly on both cheeks and shook his hand vigorously.

"And I'll be saying yes to you buying me dinner soon, Comrade Tobi. Spasiba, you are good friend."

Mischa promptly smiled, turned on her heels and followed after a bemused Leo.

Tobi was pleased enough at being attacked by a hot Russian babe that he barely minded being put firmly into the ‘friend’ category. He shook Mischa’s hand with a stupid grin and nodded his head at the mention of dinner.

“Alright, awesome, great, any time…”

Wow, way to sound over-eager there, champ. Still, as soon as Mischa turned away he mouthed a ‘woot’ to Leo and turned to go his own way with a grin on his face. Remembering just as he got to the door that she had been non committal as far as accommodations went, he called out over his shoulder.

“And hey, stop by The Rails any time. We’re on the top floor; I’ll buzz you in.”

Leo seemed to have her from here; he would get her the needed badge and an office keycard. Maintenance could get her stuff where it belonged and she’d be settled in no time. All Tobi had done, in the scheme of things, was walk her around and introduce her to a few people, but he still went away feeling accomplished.

Mischa heard the footfalls fade into the distance as Tobi retired. She detected a slight spring in his step. Da, he was good comrade and kinsman. Reminded him of cousin in Ukraine who had problem with keeping matches from accidently starting fires. So bright eyed, humourous and eager to please.

"Ma'am, where would you like to start." Leo coughed once to gain Mischa's attention.

"That indeed is the question of the hour, Comrade Leo. Do you have suggestions for room capable of handling potential accidents involving military grade explosives ordanance and industrial strength demolitions equipment. Oh, and I forget. There are many weapons to securely store."

Leo groaned silently as Ms. Karnovich read off a veritable aresenal of weaponry and equipment that would have filled a quarter of the small and heavy arms section of Jane's Military Annual. It was going to be one of those days, but damned if she wasn't a looker.
