The grass and the sky

It was well into the night when she pulled up at the park, still dressed in her pink extravagant gown from the earlier party at the strip club.

The smart thing to do woulda been to go home and change before comming out to a park, but she didn't want to risk the chance that the baby would be awakened by her and get upset when she left once again. She tossed her mask into the back seat and undid a few of her curls. As she got out she kicked off her heals into the passenger sides floor. She wouldn't need those, it always felt better besides to go barefoot.

She held the back of her dress up so it wouldn't drag as she walked into the park along a trail. The winding dirt path led her finally into a patch of dense trees and she sighed as the moon beamed in and out of branches.

This month was almost over and with it ending meant another full moon comming. They seemed to sneak up on her. Lately she had gotten better at keeping track of the calendar so there wouldnt be any unexspected public changes. That had happened once before in the 24 hour supermart in one of the towns she had tried to set up residence in. Good grief what a nightmare it had been. Now she had an alert on her cell phone to warn her the morning of. Maybe she shouldn't be so forgetful.

A fallen tree provided for a nice stool and she made sure to check for dampness before she sat. Dry and moss free. She was only a few feet off the beaten path so he dirt was still loose enough to play with using her toes.

She began to day dream about running free of clothing through these trees, each step sending the trees wizzing past her faster and fater until they were a blur. Skin effortlessly shifting into fur, 2 legs to 4.

What a laugh, if only it was effortless and painfree.

The call to Fallon went as expected. He returned her love and sent the phone back to where it belonged. Sending the bottle of blood to the fridge to save it till morning, Cyrus hoped Suki would be her usual efficient self and keep everyone from entering this day. Still he adjusted the security settings to only allow Fallon from the house side or himself from the inside to open the hidden door in the pantry.

With an easy stride he made his way to the bottom door of the stairwell where he shifted and curled up with his back to the wall but his tail resting along the door. It was going to be a long night.

Several times he awoke in the night. Keen feline senses twitching at the slightest provocation of real or imagined changes in environment. Each time it became harder and harder to fall back asleep. By 3pm he was restless and unable to sit still any longer. Entering the lower level den he quietly entered the collection room and began unpacking. The security was on for the lower level door as well as the sealed room he was working in. Now at least he had something to occupy him until Panos awakened.

Normally, what had happened the previous night would have taken it's toll on him and he would have slept for days maybe even weeks. He was prone to being knocked out for long periods of time after huge amounts of physicalities. Last night had been one of those nights. Danger or not being in the safest of places couldn't wake him, hell he couldn't even wake himself up at those times. It had happened before, once with Alexandra and then again when he had turned Fallon, and also when he bonded to Chryseis. It had happened throughout his life really but he had gotten more careful or tried to be at least.

This time was no different save for the fact that he needed blood. He could sustain himself in those other circumstances but after the blood loss of the previous evening and all the rebuilding his body had tried to do and then finally got to..he was near starving. It didn't help either that he had used everything he could to stand guarded and ready against Cyrus last night. Completely dissolving through his Bloodlust. It only made him hungrier and it was that pain that awoke him.

He rolled over with a groan. Opening his eyes and seeing his surroundings made him depressed. He couldn't get out and all he could think about was feeding. The most primal urges to feed screamed and tugged at him to get up and go out. Tear through two or three people and still look for more.

There wasnt even a rat in the damn place to rip apart. Not that it would do much good, but the blood and the gore would get him past a few more minutes.

Two and a half crates later, Cyrus lifted his head with a jerk. He could not be sure if he had actually heard Panos or if it was just a twitchy nerve. Still he picked up his supplies and exited the vault room. With an automatic weapon and a bag of blood from the room next door he felt ready to find out if their psychotic vampire was awake. Once security was released the door to the two innermost secure rooms opened with a mental nudge.

Cyrus did not wish to put holes in his newly completed and furnished home but was not going to take any chances that Panos would jump him. He disliked guns really but poachers had taught him the value of the weapons, safe killing from afar. Now he simply had to get the blood to into the starving vamp before he had to shoot him. Safety off he scanned the den room carefully without moving from his position.
Panos Mehalitsenos 17 years ago
His perception kicked the moment he heard the soft rubbing of well greased hinged doors. They must of been still new. He laid still as he listened and felt the warmth of the rooms temperature shift. Someone was there.

He started to breathe heavier in anticipation and when he darted up and spun around on his feet he saw who had entered. He recognized Cyrus's face and he snarled in dissapointment.

Too much work. This one would be fast and rested and, too much work. But still....Panos could almost hear the blood teasing him from inside Cyrus's body. Bastard!

He closed his eyes and shivered, reopening them slowly.

Let me out.

His voice was husky. It was hard to maintain the urge to go after the closest living thing in the room. Even if it was someone who had just helped him.

"Easier said than done."

With an easy throw, the bag of blood sailed towards Panos. If he caught it was up to him but it was food for the probably quite hungry vampire. The gun in his hand never wavered from his target.

"Once you get something to eat we can get you out. It should be enough to take the edge off your hunger, though its pretty weak and you wont be your full fighting form."

Cyrus contemplated how to go about removing Fallon's maker from their home and property but realized that unless he was unconscious he would probably still know where they lived. Of course Chryseis could easily give him that information as well. It was time to make a deal with the devil.

"Now, we can continue this dance for years. Or we could agree to cease hostilities and let the past be in the past. While I would love to shred your flesh from bone for terrorizing Fallon, I am sure you are just as bloodthirsty against my claiming her for myself. She would rather neither of us die, as her actions in the last 24 hours show clearly enough."

With ease, Cyrus claimed a seat on the back of the couch, gun still held ready and aimed. He shook his head slightly, unhappy with any option presented to him right now. Still for Fallon's sake he forged ahead.

"A cease fire, if you will. Some would call it a gentleman's agreement, but both of us know neither of us are gentlemen. All we ask of you is to not harm us and should Fallon wish to speak to you, as her maker. In return we would be willing to offer assistance, as we did yesterday should you be in need again."

He pondered briefly stating that the threat of council action could be dropped but decided that may be giving up too much leverage. Of course, Panos had no obligations under the offered agreement except to not try to harm them and perhaps speak to Fallon if she ever wished, whereas they would provide any future emergency help should it be needed. Based on his track record, Cyrus was pretty sure something, sometime would come up again.

"We all live, safe, healthy and free to go about the lives we have planned out in front of us."

His eyes focused on the bag of blood that Cyrus tossed into the air. He caught it and took it back to the bed as Cyrus entered the room and sat on the couch.

Almost animalistic he bit into the bag with his fangs and wrapped his mouth around the now punctured bag. He scowled at Cyrus and turned to sit with his back facing him. Listening to the man talk.

It was an easy exchange. He hadn't wanted to kill them in the first place. Maim Cyrus maybe, set up a quick accident perhaps but he hadn't done so yet. He could of tried something at the art gallery but he hadn't. Besides, they didn't kill him when they definatly could have, so he had no problem agreeing with Cyrus's request. He'd almost say anything right now to get some food. Besides what other choice was there? Sit here and rot?

Done and done. He said over the now dry bag.

It was almost to easy. He hadn't realized how much trouble and danger they thought he would be. It put a little smile on his face. He turned back around with that smile.

Scouts honor.

He stood and stretched.

Now, i'm not frenzied but not strong enough to do anything scarey. Just how you want me. So what's next? Anymore requests?
Cyrus 17 years ago
The small smile disturbed him. It was almost seemed like he had been maneuvered into offering just this sort of thing to Panos which bothered him even more. Still it was just a cease fire, he had no intention of trusting the psychotic vampire farther than he could sneeze. Still he would go through with this for Fallon's sake.

"Good, this is what Fallon wants." Cyrus felt it unnecessary to add that he would do all that his mate asks if it were possible.

Exiting the bedroom he opened the small wet bar fridge and removed another bag. The thing was keyed to thumb prints but opened easily enough for Cyrus. Bag in hand he passed through the den to the door to the stairs. The small plastic pouch of blood hovered near him while his gun hand never wavered. Getting the door open only took a quick palm scan. Looking directly at Panos, rather than out of the corner of his eye, he nodded to the stairs.

"We head up and ask Fallon nicely to drive you to your chosen destination. You are welcome to drink this one in the car, but you may want to wait, the bags gross my familiar out."

Slipping inside the stairwell quickly he leapt to the top of the stairs easily and began the whole security crap again. The door was open in a matter of seconds while the gun though not pointing down the stairs was still held competently in his grasp. Leading the way he emerged into the kitchen to find it empty and blessedly dark aside from the light over the stove.

Panos followed Cyrus up out of the secure room. It was evening again and he inwardly sighed with relief and joy.

He had to go back to the park. He had left his phone there. Hopefully no stupid idiot had picked it up during the day. He didnt want to get another. It had been a pain aquiring that one.

Plus if he went back to the park, they wouldn't know where he lived. He wasn't about to offer that up even if they had brought him into their home to help.

Nice kitchen. He remarked with sarcasm.

Disoriented, waking up in her cat form, Fallon took a few minutes to stretch, and take stock of her surroundings. All the little balls of fluff around her stirred as well, but none seemed terribly anxious to actually awaken.

Too concerned about Cyrus, Fallon didn't take the normal time to play and tease the kittens awake, but shifted, and crawled out of the bed. Not accustomed to sleeping in a bed while changed, Fallon shook her head at the mess she'd made of the covers and pillows. Though mess was putting it lightly, since all the covers were now pretty much strewn about the floor. She wasn't surprised since she had woken up several times during the night, and guess the times she slept had been fitful. It seemed a little amazing that she had become so used to Cyrus sleeping by her side in such a short amount of time, but reasoned that had to be why she had tossed and turned.

"Ok munchkins, mama's going to go find daddy, and come back later to put the bed back together. You can sleep some more, or play, but you'll have to stay here till I make sure it's safe for you to come out."

Dressing quickly, just pulling out clothes from her closet, Fallon shut the door behind her as she left the master bedroom and moved towards the kitchen. Cautious, she zipped her jeans, and buttoned the last button on her shirt, before silently entering the kitchen in bare feet.

"It is a VERY nice kitchen, Panos...therefore your sarcasm isn't warranted, or appreciated."

Why did the first voice she heard have to be his? And would he never learn to be anything more than the asshole he seemed ingrained to be? After what she and Cyrus had done for him, a tiny bit of humility would have been a lot more appropriate.

Seeking and finding Cyrus, and seeing he was completely okay, Fallon felt a huge weight disappear from her shoulders. Without concern for anything, she immediately went to him and put her arms around his neck, squeezing him as hard as she could.

"I'm sorry you had to go through all this love, but I thank you, and will show my real appreciation later, once we've let Panos loose."

She whispered her gratitude, and promises of later fun, and didn't care if her voice cracked a little. She loved Cyrus with her entire soul and her relief at his safety was something she just couldn't hide.

Well good morning Fallon! Panos announced completely pretentious and in phoney glee.

Their affection was irratating as his teeth itched to dive into terrified flesh. The previous bag of blood had taken the edge off but it was all too soon that he twitched for more. It was the real thing he wanted.

Like a small tick from a person with turets diseas, his jaw flinched in anticipation. Damn hereditary diseases that seemed to barely go away even after death.

Tick tock children. He tapped at the invisiable watch on his wrist.

He wanted to be around these two almost as much as they wanted to be around him. They'd want to around him even less when he started to get pissed off hungry again. Bags of blood be damned, it was death and horror he really craved.

Fallon's timing could not have been better, though her actions caused Cyrus to lower the gun to point it at the floor rather than at Panos. Still he accepted her hug and put his free arm around her without taking his eyes off their guest. When they were alone late he would show her all the affection he had for her, but now was not the time. Gently he disengaged from the embrace and brought her up to speed.

"We would appreciate you driving Panos to his destination, Kitten. He has agreed to a cessation of hostilities for now as well. So if you have any questions please feel free to ask them on the drive."

Gently he pulled her along on his way to the front door, leaving Panos to follow. Since he still had the gun in his hand and a bag of blood following him like a floating pet he expected no trouble. At the foyer he patted his mate's rear with a hand.

"Hurry and get some shoes love, we will meet you in the car."

Opening the front door he waited for their guest to exit before heading to the car.

She had been walking around the park for a while now, with all the people around at this late hour it was hard for her to pinpoint Panos' location, she had found his phone under a citylight earlier, along with his mask with blood on it, what the hell had happend here?

Calling him was out of the picture since well duh she had his phone, walking around till she found him? the park was huge, he could be anywhere, maybe he had even left already, maybe someone had found him and took him to a hospital, whatever the case and whatever feelings she had for him, Alex just didn't see the point in keeping up the search, she knew that Panos would find her in time, he always did.

Sighing she placed her hands on her hips, looking up at the sky she cursed softly, damn.. where could he be, she wasn't one to give up a search but this was hopeless.. exiting the park she headed home, she would call the realtor in the morning to make arangements to purchase the apartment.

Hopefully Panos would show up sooner or later.

"Ack!"

Fallon had forgotten she was barefoot, but quickly pulled herself away from Cyrus, and ran back to their room to slip into a pair of clogs, the feel of his hand on her bottom making her giggle. It was such a relief to see Cyrus, and know that the day had passed with little issues from Panos, that she really wanted nothing more than to curl up next to her man, and talk about silly things. She wanted to tell him the funny things the kids had done in his absence, and how Fred looked to be asserting himself as the leader of the group.

But there would be time later for family things. Right now they needed to rid their happy home of its one thorn, and hope they would not be bothered with such ugliness again. Panos was well enough to be on his own again, and Fallon saw no reason whatsoever to prolong taking him back to where they had found him. She wondered if they found his phone, if she might be able to erase her number from it before he got possession again. It creeped her out to think he had such a way to contact her.

Checking on the kids again, Fallon grabbed her purse and keys, and returned to the kitchen in seconds. Remembering they were going to meet her in the car, Fallon wondered where her mind was, but continued on outside. Running around to the driver's side, Fallon slid onto the seat and put the key in the ignition.

"So...back to the park? You wanted to find your phone?" How the man could have held onto the phone to call her, and then lost it in the short amount of time it took for them to reach him was beyond her understanding, but since he didn't have it with him now she had to assume that's what happened. And then again, maybe he would just as soon forget about the phone, and her number, and get a new one...either way, he would be out of their home, and things could return to normal.

He walked past Cyrus with a stretched smile and headed to the car.

He walked almost with out regard to where he was or who was around him. His self asserted cockiness returned with his newly healed eye. He wasnt completly without guard though it seemed like it. His perception was up.

He slid into the backseat after finding the doors unlocked. No doubt from a quick click of keyless entry.

Yes the park, He paused.please, I also left my mask there. It wouldnt be good to leave my belongings laying about. Plus I want to recheck the the area where my little 'incident' went down. You can drop me at the front gates of the park.

Maybe he could find some added clues into finding the woman with that nightmare little weapon. He thought about all the different ways he could use the weapon on her. That is of course before he would slowly drain the blood and life from her. Maybe he would make her into a puppet. Endless possibilities danced through his mind. He was eager to get to the park and to find her.

Cyrus watched Fallon race to their suite for her shoes. She was so cute sometimes. The small smile did not mean he was unaware of Panos, who thankfully started to make his way to the car. Soon as everyone was outside he secured the house and made his way to the car. The gun was now more of a liability than help so he slid it under the drivers seat upon claiming his spot behind Fallon. The little pet bag of blood now made its way to Panos.

"The park it is then. Have a snack along the way. Would hate to have you starve while in our care."

He could only hope that whatever belongings Panos had lost were either not found or destroyed by the sun at dawn. The vampire had bled all over so it was quite likely that anything with his blood on it burst into flame under the sun's rays. Cyrus could only hope that was the case. He had no desire to have to change Fallon's cell phone number to keep the psychotic maker as far from her as possible, cease fire be damned.

Sitting comfortably, his foot just barely touching the gun while his left arm rested easily on the window lip. While he would rather gently touch his mate's shoulder he did not wish to tie up his fartest hand in case he needed to grab the gun or a knife from his boot. The trip would be swift, this time they did not need to drive around searching for Panos.
Fallon 17 years ago
"Did you just..." Fallon let her question drop. She couldn't believe Panos had said please, but then didn't think it would to do make a federal case out of it. For as long as she walked the earth, she doubted she would ever trust, or like Panos; however, little things like saying 'please' unexpectedly, made her wonder if there might be some bit of humanity in him somewhere.

And then she remembered the way he had spoken of the woman who shot him, and shook her head. Fallon knew once she dropped Panos off at the park, her part in his 'incident' would be finished, but a big part of her wanted to know more. What if he had tried to capture this woman the way he had tried with Fallon, but this woman was luckier. No...not luckier...for Fallon truly felt blessed with her life now, but that was soley due to Cyrus. What if this poor woman didn't have anyone to watch out for her, and protect her? Could Fallon just go on with her wonderful life, and forget all about what might still become of the mystery girl?

They reached the park quickly, lack of traffic being in their favor once again, and Fallon stopped at the front gates as Panos had requested. Putting the car into park, Fallon turned and looked at him across the seats.

"I'm still not convinced this woman who shot you did it on a lark...I have seen the real you Panos. Please...just..."

Again she felt as if she were talking to the wind, and frustrated she turned back and faced the road again. There was nothing she could say that would change what he had planned, so there wasn't any reason to waste her time.

"Just get out." She felt as if she had failed somehow, and just wanted to be gone from the place, and to put the last night behind them.
Panos Mehalitsenos 17 years ago
They rolled to a stop in front of the park gates. Panos sat for a moment while Fallon stammered with a statment she could not get out. Instead she ordered him from the car.

He opened the back door and stepped out. He leaned down back into the car.

Oh it wasn't on a lark. I was going to feed off her, somehow she got a shot off first. Next time, she wont be so lucky.

He knew he was disturbing Fallon so he made it short. With a nod to Cyrus and the bag of blood he spoke one last time before shutting the door.

Catch you later. Keep the blood, I wouldn't want you to have to waste anything more on me.

He figured they'd concider anything they had done for him the previous evening a waste of goods. He was thankful but he'd never admit it. He turned and jogged away back into the park. First for a fresh bite and then he'd investigate.

(panos out pending responses!)
Cyrus 17 years ago
He ached to comfort Fallon, especially when Panos retorted in the same psychotic fashion he had done all night. Moving his left hand to her shoulder he squeezed lightly, providing her all the support she could recieve while still sitting in the drivers seat of the car with an insane vampire leaning in. A low growl rumbled in his chest at her maker's cavalier attitude about terrorizing people. Now was not the time though to mention how most humans do believe in putting down rabid dogs.

Cyrus waited until Panos was far enough away before emerging from the car to take the front passenger seat. Once inside he locked the doors and brushed his thumb over her cheek and jaw.

"I am sorry, Love."

While he had no idea if he was sorry he wanted to kill Panos or sorry because he had not, Cyrus wasn't sure. Still he hoped to get his woman home and comforted as soon as possible.
Fallon 17 years ago
Feeding off someone was no reason for that other person to shoot you...and it was that thought that kept Fallon from believing it to be a sufficient explanation from Panos. She could only surmise he had again done something similar to this other woman, as he had done to Fallon, whether he admitted it or not.

Turning back, she watched him get out of the car, and immediately realized that she had been very tense. Thoughts and feelings she imagined having put behind her, were still with her, and only covered up. Now she could relax again, and shuddered as her body let go of the rigidness she hadn't been aware she was harboring.

That Panos hadn't even thanked them, wasn't lost on Fallon, but it also wasn't anything she expected, or would brood over. Something inside her would not just let her wait while another living...or not living creature was destroyed...even if it was one of the few people she'd met, who had tried to destroy her.

It was the touch of Cyrus' fingers on her face that brought Fallon back from the ugliness of the world, to the beauty that now encompassed her life. In accepting her relief, she crumpled sideways against him, and found herself crying softly. In Cyrus' arms she felt free, and secure enough to let down her guard and let go of her fears, and took a few moments now to do both.

Once she again had control of herself, she tilted her head up and gazed into his eyes.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't let things like that get to me, but I haven't found a way not to yet."

Another smaller shudder wracked through her, but this time she felt a lot better, and had stopped crying. The longer Panos was out of their presence, the stronger Fallon began to feel again.

"I guess I'd better get us home." Grinning, albeit a small, timid grin, Fallon gave Cyrus a kiss of love, and gratitude, for being him...and for being there with her now. It wasn't totally devoid of passion, but passion was not its purpose. Moreover Fallon was drawing a little more strength from her mate, before getting back to the matter of driving them back to their lives.

(Fallon out)
Cyrus 17 years ago
He held Fallon while she cried and wished for just one moment that Panos could somehow just simply disappear. Or at the very least turn into a normal vampire by breaking free of the psychotic episode that he had been living for who knows how long. With one arm around her his free hand continued to gently stroke her face. This was why Panos did not succeed in breaking her, she had this huge inner supply of kindness that could cause her to have compassion for a rabid dog like her maker.

"Its ok love."

His murmurs continued until she pulled herself together and kissed him. Since it was neither the time nor place to return the kiss like he wished to he simply responded with a gentle meeting of lips. When she pulled back, Cyrus smiled at her slightly.

"Home would do both of us a lot of good."
