What I Like About...Synonyms ((NSFW language))
Doing some editing and critique for a friend recently made me realize how much I like synonyms. Especially when referring to human anatomy.
In my opinion, there are literally hundreds of names for the male and female sex organs. If one is going for a raunchy feel, cock and pussy work, but become monotonous. One could use, pardon my bluntness, snatch, cunt, hole, dick, shaft, etc....
If you are going for a soft sexy feel, pussy and cock just do not fit. Try sex, nether lips, flower (hehe if you must) heat, member, or even just him/he/himself.
My point in bringing this up is that I wonder what some of your favorite descriptors for these most intimate of parts are. It seems important, to me, that we have and use many synonyms when we go about role playing with our naughty bits.
Sometimes a girl just needs to expand her...vocabulary.

Oh jeez, but do I understand the need for other terms, having recently played a bit on a nearly 100% sex rp forum. I got so sick to death of trying to come up with other ways to say the same thing that it became just too overwhelming to continue. Serious. My creativity was being replaced with worry over how I could just make the same scene or sentence seem fresh and unique!
Anyway...womanhood, maleness, bud, blossom, length, heat, stiffness, cavern, wetness, center, apex, slickness...twat...danglies lol...just a few to add to the list.

I think it's tough to pull off 'sex' as a noun. -Very- few places I've read that and thought it worked. But man, the wrong word can be -so- jarring. Reading some sex scene and thinking whoa, hot! and then using a word like 'dingle' or something...so not on. And everyone has their preferences - some people are fine with 'member' while others wince at the term, and some think pussy and cock should just never be used, ever, while others are all 'wtf, stop pussyfooting around and just spit it out!' (WOW look at all the dirty jokes that could come out of that sentence!). Are technical terms ever the thing to use?

I have serious blockage issues now about writing erotica =x I mean, I *think* i can with Simon and Carol, although their thread is just kinda hanging there, but recently I just couldn't do it with Nova and Kyle. I dont know why, it might be because it's with someone else =x I've developed a complex =(

Personally, I think erotica is one of the most difficult genres to write well. It takes a lot of work to make things sound hot, and not like bad porn described by a 16 year old boy. I think it's all in terminology and detail. If you leave out the detail, you leave out a lot.
One has to describe what that touch felt like, why that person did that and how they felt when it was done. For me the most difficult part of erotica is describing orgasm. It try to take a little from personal experience and a little from other literature, but there are only so many ways to describe the "big O"
I just want to add that since I'm not a boy, describing boy orgasms is going to be...weird. I'm hoping to avoid that.

yea...playing a guy having an orgasm has been a challenge that I really don't think I've got down yet, and one reason why I've quit playing guys as much as I used to...it just feels weird.
As for playing sex scenes between two of my characters? Jeez Roz, I feel just the opposite from you...it takes so much to play just one charrie having sex, but to play two having sex with each other is way beyond what I'd want to take on. I've done it before...but only as a last resort, and couldn't wait until the scene was over with.

It's easier when both people are written by myself, I know what the other is going to say (obviously). The one actual sex scene Nova and Kyle had that didn't fade to black...you have no idea how difficult that was. I was blushing thru the entire thing. =x

Having done a lot (and I mean a LOT) of research on the subject, I find myself taking a while to write scenes and have them sound good to me. Its a fine line between offensive and sexy. For me, I can generally see the line but dancing close to it can be difficult. Since none of my characters get it on with eachother I have never had to attempt to solo a sex scene. Its probably just like playing with yourself though.
