Montana's Apartment

Montana's Studio Apartment

The multi-colored portals lining the hall to Apartment 6F seem to have no rhyme or reason. (Not unless one stands and looks at it from afar and realizes the colors depict a broken rainbow. Looking from afar is difficult due to the one body-width of the hall.) The apartment's door is decorated half black, half disorganized color blocks, blobs, and shapes. A golden plaque at eye height in the center reads "6F".

Upon opening the door, one enters a short hallway which opens forward and right into the apartment proper.

Along the left wall, reaching the corner is a tall wooden bookshelf with several drawers. It is mostly empty for the moment, carrying only a few books, several magazines, and a small selection of catalogs.

Three large windows give a view outside of the apartment that impressive and disappointing; the building just in front, across the street, is Nachton University, the form of which blocks the view of the rest of the city's skyline.

Directly below the center window is a twin bed. Just a mattress on a frame, it is covered with a shockingly pink bedspread and several pillows.

An oddly shaped computer desk stands next to the bed, with a laptop open upon it. The far corner holds a weathered oak bureau.

The window in the far right wall gives an excellent view of the clock tower of Nachton University. Below the window is a long, low ugly brown sofa. There are no indications it was purchased within the last twenty years, but it seems to be in pristine condition. The upholstery is unpatterned, but the arms of the sofa are ornately carved wood which have been re-varnished quite a few times. A matching coffee table lays just in front. The corner near the kitchenette door holds a corner TV stand. There is not actually a TV on it at the moment; rather, the occupant pulls her laptop from her "computer desk" and sets it on the main shelf for viewing movies. The only movies currently stocked on the library shelf are "Dungeons and Dragons," "Contact," "Monty Python's Holy Grail," and "Sex and the City, Season 1."

Inside the kitchenette, just behind the door, stands an old, beige refrigerator that keeps its contents entirely too cold. To the right, a small, steel sink with a counter stretching into the corner. A coffee pot stands atop a small white microwave. Cabinet space is minimal, with the only cabinets being above the fridge, below the sink and range, and between the corner countertop and the range proper. Directly opposite the door stands a cabinet-table with a tabletop range. Only two of the four burners currently work.

The door next to the kitchenette leads to a tiny walk-in closet, at the back of which is a small wooden softpanel. The hot water heater can be found inside, and provides a frustrating pitta-tat sound when reheating its contents.

Further to the right, the door which opens into the bathroom has no handle. Inside, a brand new white tub occupies the wall closest the front door. The occupant has hung a shower curtain with a galaxy on it. ("It was rather difficult to find, thank you.") Both the toilet and sink in this bathroom are showing their age, but work flawlessly for the time being.

A small round table with three chairs takes up the remaining space between the bathroom door and the entrance hall. Atop it are several stacks of old books, and a large pile of manila folders full of yellowed paper.
