Now...this was certainly an overdue event. Smiling, Alec looked around the wide spaces of Nachton's famed library. He'd been a bit remiss in keeping up to date on his periodicals since moving here. Though it wasn't what the building was known for, he knew they'd have the architectural journals that he was interested in. After that, perhaps he'd read up on the local history since he was mostly living with it. It might be interesting to see how many of the founders were still wandering around.

Chuckling quietly, he removed his jacket and stretched, heading in the direction that the sign indicated that he would find the magazine reading area. Getting a somewhat stern look for an undisclosed offense from one of the staff members, he wondered if that was something that they trained librarians to do. "Any time someone is not hard at work or looking studious, give them the Librarian Stare," that slight knitting of the brow, a tiny cock of the head to the right, look a bit down the nose and purse the lips. Classic. He'd never seen it on a man's face before, but the look was unmistakeable. He was certainly Staff.

Taking a few minutes, he selected his magazines and sat down on the rather soft couch in the reading area and started to get caught up on the thoughts of the industry for the past few months. He really ought to subscribe to many of these, but he didn't see the point on spending money on something that he could get for free. Oh, get for free, legally.

Sighing with contentment, he settled in for some serious reading on breakfast nooks.

When she noticed the librarian was glancing towards her friends, Fallon cleared her throat, and handed her the form for her card.

"I'm sorry, but I'd really like to get this tonight, if you don't mind."

The older woman gave Fallon a look of annoyance, but moved to the computer and typed in the information from the card. As she did so, Fallon looked back to where Aishe and Addison were sitting, with Alec in their laps, just in time to see Alec fall face first smack into Ana's lap...an act Fallon was sure must have pleased the younger girl.

Fallon turned her head quickly to the librarian and saw her start to look at the disturbance, but the phone rang just then, in an inner office, and the librarian appeared to leave to answer it.

Relaxing some, Fallon allowed herself to laugh then, and looked again at the crazy people she had aligned herself with for the time being. All four of them seemed to be in various stages of breaking up, and best of all was that Alec himself seemed to have taken the joke very well. She relaxed even more to see that Addison's little trick hadn't created any ill will between he and Alec.

For a few second Fallon flashed on a similar incident where Ted had been trick by one of his friends, only to be made to look foolish. Not only had Ted's friend been beaten to a pulp, but Fallon had received heavy remnants of Ted's anger for days afterward. Those beatings had led her to the hospital...one of the few times she actually was allowed to go. She was lucky nothing had been broken. Lucky.

The librarian was now clearing her throat, while handing Fallon her new card and books.

'Tell your friends if they don't quiet down NOW, they will be asked to leave.'

The librarian spoke quietly but with vehemence, as she nodded to a security guard standing just outside the library door. All Fallon thought about that motion was...where had the guard been the night she was screaming out in the nearby parking lot?

With a tilt of her head she acknowledged the librarian's words, and walked back to the foursome. A huge smile was on her face when she sat down in the chair next to the sofa.

"You guys are so going to get kicked out of here...that librarian has her eye on you."

Fallon wasn't afraid, in fact she chose just that time to let out a hearty laugh, and kept laughing until her eyes were tearing almost as bad as Alec's looked. She did at least try to quiet herself with hands over her mouth.

Echoing Aishe, Alec repeated

Loop, swoop and pull. Wait...wasn't there supposed to be something about a rabbit in the hole and a tree or something? Aishe, you're making this up, aren't you? Ana, could you please make sure that she doesn't mess it all up even worse?

Sighing at the state of his feet, Alec chuckled.

Well, we should probably leave before she calls in backup and that male librarian comes out with security. That's no kind of fun, right there! So...set me free, and off we go!

Wondering if everyone would be willing to hit his "home turf," Alec held off on suggesting the Arcade. After all, that was what he and Aishe had done last time they were out. "Might as well wait for a suggestion or see if people want to dissipate."
Aishe 18 years ago
Aishe shook her head regretfully. "Much as we'd love to hang out," and she meant that, she always had a good time with Alec, "Fallon and I have plans. We just stopped by to cause mayhem and havoc."

She supposed they could have stayed for a while, but Aishe suspected Fallon's shy nature would keep her quiet in such a group, and they wouldn't exactly be free to discuss the things they wanted to. Although she had a pretty good idea of Alec's nature from previous discussions with him, she knew nothing about Addison or Ana, and it was too big a group for them to talk openly in anyhow.

So she gave the other three an apologetic shrug. "I have faith in your ability to keep Alec off balance though," she said with a wink and a nod at his shoes.
Fallon 18 years ago
Fallon agreed, and was relieved. She enjoyed people, and groups of people, but didn't participate in them well. One on one was her forte, and if she was ever going to talk much that would be when. She would never have suggested it though, as she wouldn't want to tear Aishe away from her friends.

Books still in hand, she smiled and rose from her seat.

"It was great fun meeting you all."

A smile and a nod to each was given. Her eyes lingered a bit longer on Ana.

"One of these days maybe we can spend more than ten minutes together..."

Fallon seemed to always be leaving the younger girls company, and liked her enough to want to get to know her better.

The men were entertaining, but Fallon saw no real need, or use for pursuing further interaction there. Neither appeared her type, for differing reasons, but none the less...

She looked to Aishe to make the move to go.

Ana nodded amiably. "I'd settle for eleven or twelve, but sixty or more would be great! You have my cell phone number still? Please, give me a call, I'd love to get out of the house with a friend."

She smiled and said to Aishe, "Pleased to meet you, Aishe. Thank you for the laughs!"
Aishe 18 years ago
"You too, Ana - and Addison... perhaps next time won't just be a fly-by." Aishe smiled at the woman and gathered up her light reading with a grunt.

"Alec, play nice if you can." She gave her friend a wink and shook her head with a laugh. "Let's get together another time when I can stay and play. Say hi to Ginnie!"

With that, she and Fallon headed for the desk to check out their books and find someplace to indulge in a bit of girl-talk.

Well - you two have a lovely evening. Good to meet you, Fallon...and Aishe, don't throw your back out with that collection of books. I do hope you have a proper weight belt on under that shirt.

Turning to the remaining two, Alec asked

So...what's the verdict? Something new and possibly exciting or back to the books and magazines? Y'all are driving!

((permission to move Alec - I'll be back around 11pm EST though))
Addison 18 years ago
Addison looked around as everyone slowly dispersed. He eyed the little silver watch on his wrist and stood, brushing off his pants. At least Alec didn't look too upset. He felt badly that the Tach had fallen, but he didn't seem to find it at all a bad thing...nor the young woman who's lap his face had found it's way on.

"Good evening..." The red head gave a little wave and, leaving the journal on an end table, headed out.

Ana watched curiously as the red-headed man left. "Well that was sort of abrupt..."

Turning to Alec, she said, "Well I never did find what I came here for. I was interrupted rather suddenly by an obstacle and some Olympic-quality gymnastics. Oh and a semi-old friend and some new friends and a cute guy's face in my lap and the icing on a really strange night. So..." She shrugged and fiddled with her hair-sticks. "I should find what I was looking for. Not that I mind leaving without having achieved my goal... after all I found better."

She smiled, a slight tinge of color rising to her cheeks, but kept her eyes even with Alec's.

"Well, so much for playing that off." Blushing as she accused him of being cute, he averted his gaze and stammered

Ah...er...yeah. Um...well, it was nice meeting you too? And sorry about...yeah.

Alec was confused. Not an uncommon theme, but he'd have to think back to his time spent in New Orleans sometime soon. He'd assumed that Odessa had been joking about his affect on women...obviously, she might have been onto something. Creepy. He was slightly uncomfortable being viewed in a romantic fashion. Or sexual.

Wait, scratch that. He was slightly uncomfortable that he was aware of being viewed in that fashion. He was perfectly fine with people having eye candy of any variety - that didn't bother him in the least. It was just when it was...noticeable...that it made things difficult for him. And since he was a somewhat selfish person, that was what mattered. Of course, he'd lie when asked about it and cite public decorum or something similar. He wondered if his staring was ever misinterpreted as being attentive in this way. The thought made him self-conscious.

Just another part of growing up to get through. Remembering his promise to himself, he didn't flee the uncomfortable social situation and reverse his former statement by his actions.

But it was HARD.

Oh. Ok.

Should I just wait here while you get what you came for and then we'll go hang out someplace less likely to get me arrested? ElekTRONicka, or maybe the Peet's down on the Strip?

Alec really wished Addison hadn't scattered so quick. He wasn't at his best one on one with new people. Doubtless he'd mess something up horribly by the end of the night. But she could still say no. It was possible. Altogether unlikely, but possible.

A look that reminded Ana of how she might look when feeling uncomfortable crossed Alec's face.

"Well..." Ana debated quickly whether or not she should ask Alec his opinions on her research subject.

After all, how many men were loathe to talk about a subject as broad and singular as sexuality?

She decided not to bring it up.
"Thank you very much for your offer, Alec, but I think I'll stick to my research for now. I'm not used to staying out this late, and I don't think I'd make very good company if I were snoring into a plate of cheese fries. Might make for a funny picture, though..." Grinning at herself, Ana shook her head.

"I'll probably be here most of the nights this week. Have... a lot of stuff to look up." Inside her mind, she chanted to herself, "Please don't let him ask what, please don't ask what."
Alec Devereaux 18 years ago
Trumpets and fanfare erupted inside his mind. He was off the hook, but he'd done the "right thing." In retrospect, this whole doing the right thing didn't seem to be all that people said it was. He still felt woonky, just relieved that things had played out the way he'd wanted them to. That made him feel a little guilty. "Damn, this being nice thing gets you going both ways - either you're nice and have to sacrifice something you don't want to or you don't and feel guilty afterward...that's no kind of fun."

Well...enjoy your research and I'll see you around. And though falling asleep in a book has less of a chance of burning than cheese fries, there is an increased chance of righteous retribution if you crinkle a page or god forbid drool on the book...so read responsibly. G'night.

Taking a bit of time to put his periodicals away, Alec walked past the scowling matron and gave her a wink in parting.

Ana laughed quietly at Alec's joke about books burning or righteous retribution. "G'night, Alec."

After the rather cute man - "Is that even the way I want to describe him to myself? Rather cute?" - exited, Ana found herself back in the S section of the Reference books.

Muttering to herself as she perused the eight foot section of books... "Sexuality, sexuality..." she chose a couple and, parking in the same chair that had tripped her earlier, read until the librarian shift changed and sun streamed through the windows overhead.
