New Friends at Flannigan's

The large black vehicle slid to a stop outside the door to the pub. It was just the same as the other day, dark wood, green neon, boisterous crowd inside. The patrons looked the same as well.

Holding the door open for Fallon, Cyrus waited for Darius and Aishe.

Aishe 18 years ago
Omitting facts was not the same as lying, Aishe figured sensibly. So at Cyrus' quetion she shook her head.

"I haven't got my resume together yet really. Like I said... it's a pretty intimidating company to be applying for a job at. I still have yet to see what, if any, job openings they have available. I haven't even had the guts to step inside, though I did see the outside of it earlier this week. Quite impressive."

It was truth; she'd been to Liefde, but she certainly hadn't been to Meridian. Except the mall. Which didn't count.

She smiled at Cyrus and gave a half-shrug. "I've only just really made the decision to stay here in Nachton. So my search for a job hasn't yet begun in earnest."

She didn't have any reason to suspect that her companions were anything more than just that... dinner companions. Well, Peter... but that could wait. Her hesitance was born of the necessity to remain discreet about her connection with Evenhet. She didn't know who knew what anymore, and she was far too new in Nachton to go flaunting names around, flamboyant entrances into the city aside. Until she reached her goal, and for a long time thereafter, she would give her new clanmates no reason to doubt her intentions. None whatsoever.
Fallon 18 years ago
As she sat there listening to Cyrus and Aishe, she noticed Peter had gone quiet. She wondered if his life was full of so many new things, such as her's was, that he needed some time to contemplate them, as well. She wondered if she would ever feel comfortable around the large man. Ted's size was always used as a power against her, and she guessed she was now seeing the fear of that being translated into Peter. Though she knew it wasn't fair, it was a difficult idea to let go of, after all this time.

Quickly turning her eyes from him, before he caught her and saw her staring, she looked at Aishe. The woman seemed to exude confidence, and because Fallon envied it, she also had to ask herself it by association, maybe Fallon might learn how to increase her own.

The 'Meridian' Cyrus and Aishe spoke of suddenly rang a bell.

"I believe I did see a notice for employment in the want ads, that mentioned Meridian...I didn't apply there though, because the ad was for a journeyman. I also recall an article in one of the local magazines that I read at the hotel, mentioning something about the owner of Meridian attending some recent ball here in Nachton. The company sounds very high profile, but I wouldn't think someone as poised and confident as yourself should let it intimidate them."

Fallon smiled at the other woman, hoping she hadn't overstepped herself in speaking out like that.
Aishe 18 years ago
Aishe smiled at Fallon, shaking her head with sincere modesty. "I'm not all that confident," she said. "Particularly when it comes to very large, intimidating companies. But I may as well give it a try... what's the worst that can happen, they turn me down? It's happened before."

Giving a little 'don't worry be happy' shrug, she gave Peter a nudge. "Speaking of antiques though, Peter has something incredible. Show Cyrus, why don't you?"

Peter had been quiet for a while, listening to the conversation flowing around him, but Aishe was of the opinion that perhaps he should speak up a bit more.

"That's enough maidenly shyness from you," she added with a mischievous grin.
Ambrose 18 years ago

He’d been at the studio until 4AM the day before, or yesterday if it was after midnight; he hadn’t checked his watch. Ordinarily that wouldn’t have bothered him at all, hell today it didn’t really bother him. It had been a good session, an up and coming metal act that actually had talent and skill instead of only being loud and having the right image. The only reason he was at all irritated was he hadn’t planed on spending the day in New York. He had planed on getting to Nachton much earlier this evening to see about getting settled, but he was here now.

Leaning more heavily on his cane than usual Ambrose found the bar and decided that a drink couldn’t possibly hurt anything. Besides, maybe he’d find something to eat. The feel of the place made him smile, this was a great bar and it didn’t take long to figure that out. The only thing missing was the smoke and the haze it created, but there was no accounting for taste.

He ordered a snakebite and rather than sitting at the bar scanned the room, he spotted a small open table and made his way over. The near by booth had a party of four in it. Possibly a double date, it might be worth eavesdropping on them for a little while at any rate.

Sipping his drink and watching the room, Ambrose started to relax. It was all good until one of the other patrons knocked his cane down, it had been propped up against the table. At least the guy had enough decency to look back and half move to help. Ambrose, however, brushed it off and stretched over to pick it up all the while wondering if the offender would make a decent meal.

((OOC… feel free to ignore him. I promise I won’t be hurt or anything but, I heard a rumor you all wouldn’t mind one more.))

He was enjoying the conversation, although it wasn't directly involved with him.His eyes were jetting to and fro as he observed all of the patrons. He loved observing people in a public place. In his long years he could tell you someone's personality, and a decent idea of their life experiences just from observing their behavior. He had used this skill many times before. Using the inferences he gathered, he knew what words to say to make someone do his bidding. However, there are always exceptions to this rule. As with anything else; you win some, you lose some. Then he felt Aishe prod to his ribs. his eyes came back to the table.

"Speaking of antiques though, Peter has something incredible. Show Cyrus, why don't you?"

He turned to face Cyrus and began to speak

"Ahh yes, forgive me.Sometimes I have a habit of zoning out.I have no intention on being rude. But yes, I have a family heirloom I wear on my neck. It bears the crest of my ancestors."

He took the millenium and a half old trinket and placed it on the table.]Turning to Aishe he said,

"Be careful with whom you prod some of us are delicate"

(OOC: I pasted the description of the pendant from a thread in the Vesper Gardens.

It was a beautifully worked piece of metal; she thought it had to be gold but she was no chemist. It was a horse, from the point of the shoulder up, with a broad, muscular neck and a wide face with deep-set eyes of topaz. The mane lay tangled against its neck, and the artist had somehow managed to work the name 'Sarimir' in amongst the locks of its mane, so that the family name seemed to be one with the noble animal.)
Aishe 18 years ago
"Delicate?" Aishe eyed the man-shaped hill named Peter skeptically. "I'm not so sure about delicate."

Taking in her companions, she said, "Excuse me one moment. I'll be right back!"

Peter moved aside to let her out of the booth. A quick glance around, and she spied the sign indicating the ladies' room. She was about to make a beeline for it when she noticed the slight commotion at one of the tables close by. Someone had knocked over a cane that was leaning against the table, and as Aishe was closer at the moment, she made a small detour and hurried to help the man pick the cane back up with a smile.

"I've got it," she said. She leaned it against the table again, right next to one of the other chairs so it wouldn't fall over again, but well within reach. She gave a little nod, making sure it stayed where it was supposed to, and then made her way to the bathroom.

After she'd washed her hands and done her best to shake some of the windblown beach sand out of her hair, she made her way back to the booth.

"If Your Delicacy doesn't mind, I'll just pull up a chair," she said upon returning... maybe Peter would be more comfortable if he had a bit more room to spread out. The booth was pretty cramped.

Peering over the table, Fallon looked at the pendant Peter had just removed. It was quite fabulous, from what she could see, and resembled a horse with a very intricate mane.

"Sari...Sarimir? Is that what I read in the mane...it looks like there is writing in the horse's hair."

Fallon couldn't keep the awe from her voice. She didn't think she'd ever seen anything so marvelous outside of a museum.

"That is quite something...do you know how old it is?"

She wanted to touch it, but was afraid Peter wouldn't like it, so she just admired it across the table.

While they were speaking, Aishe left the table for the rest room. Fallon wished she had been sitting on the outside of the table, and she would have joined the other woman...but she chose not to disturb Cyrus by asking him to allow her to pass. She only wanted to stretch a bit, and had no pressing need.

She did notice the man sitting at the nearby table, when Aishe passed him on her way. Fallon wondered if he was alone, or waiting for someone. She smiled when Aishe retrieved the man's cane for him, thinking many would have just kept walking on. Her new friend was quite compassionate, and friendly.

"Now Peter looks like he can really be comfortable." Fallon said out loud, without really meaning to. She had thought to make the observation in her head. She hoped the man didn't take offense.

He moved to let Aishe head to the bathroom. He watched Cyrus' counterpart eye the honor bestowed upon him for his composure and prowess in battle.with just two generations of service to the empire, the Sarimir went from worthless to noble.

"Sari...Sarimir? Is that what I read in the mane...it looks like there is writing in the horse's hair."

"That is quite something...do you know how old it is?"

"Yes, Sarimir. My mother gave me this when I came of age. She was a firm believer of family and honoring our ancestors. And yes I have a vague idea of it's age,"Apollyon cracked a sly smile as he looked to Cyrus.

"That pendant belonged to Darius Sarimir. A Roman officer who was born in 440 A.D .Although there was no official date of his death, his sister and mother died both in 468 A.D and after that date, there is no historic mention of his name."

He didn't want to overstep his bounds and offend Cyrus. But this girl was incredibly self-conscious.He'd been observing her behavior since they had entered the bar.He met Fallon's eyes with his own azure eyes and pushed the pendant toward her.

"Feel free." He said softly. He shifted his gaze to Cyrus,as if including him to feel free to inspect the pendant.
Cyrus 18 years ago
Deciding to take advantage of the time that Aishe was gone, Cyrus barely glanced at the pendant. Smirking at his clansman he nudged the bottle opener closer. "You may need this to get out of that booth by the end of the night though."

After a short laugh and noting that Aishe had made it into the ladies room he nodded to Fallon. Unsure if his companion wanted her history to be known right now he simply said cryptically to Darius. "I am taking Fallon to see Mai tomorrow if possible."

Noting that Darius' companion was returning he took an interest in the medallion. "Ah, very interesting. Roman from the looks of it. Amazing condition for being a worn piece of this age."
Ambrose 18 years ago

"Thanks ma'am."Â?

He really did appreciate the help there, resented it on one level, it was damned irritating to be limited like this, but he appreciated it more. Ambrose smiled at the young woman who'd helped him as she left.

Blatantly eaves dropping on the others he was surprised at the talk about ancient Roman pendants. Odd things to be carrying about in pubs, he wouldn't have thought you'd take something like that out of a museum.

Lost in these thoughts he'd almost missed the name Mai. Interesting that was one of the people he was looking for. Of course it could be a coincidence, in fact, it probably was.

Those thoughts were put on hold when his helper returned. Using the previously errant cane, he pulled the chair on the other side of his table out and offered it to her. Apparently, it wasn't a double date after all.

"Its just me tonight. You're welcome to this one."Â?

Aishe 18 years ago
Aishe turned to look for a chair, and was pleasantly surprised to have one offered. Not every day a chair just wandered randomly into sight. Tilting her head just a bit at the man with the cane, she smiled at him.

"Just you? Perhaps you'd care to join us... if that's all right with my friends."

Aishe regarded the three at the table with her and raised her eyebrows. There was certainly room for another chair at the end of the table, and she wasn't opopsed to rearranging the furniture. Although her inclination was more toward observing at social gatherings, in this case the group involved was too interesting to sit idly by. One more to add to the mix wouldn't be unwelcome.
Fallon 18 years ago
Fallon smiled when Peter said it was okay to pick up the pendant, and did so quickly. She was surprised at the weight, but more impressed with the workmanship, as she ran her finger over the cold metal. Hearing Peter describe the age, and prior owner of the medallion, she could only look at him, agape.

"My god but that's old...it must be priceless...are you sure you should be wearing it?"

She set the jewelry down on the table and moved it back towards him, even more afraid of damaging it in some manner.

It was Cyrus' words that surprised her a little. When he mentioned Mai...she had to guess Peter knew the woman also...did that mean...

Looking at Cyrus quizzically, she was stopped from inquiring further by the arrival of the man Aishe had assisted...or the possible arrival. She did nod her agreement when Aishe asked about the man joining them.
Apollyon 18 years ago
He smiled at Fallon's enthusiasm, and snickered at the inside joke Cyrus made.He gave them both a slight nod of comprehension.

"Ahh this one is a vampire.."

Apollyon found Aishe's location and turned his gaze upon the person she was conversing with.he moved his eyes back towards Fallon now.Speaking in a soft yet audible tone he replied,

"That is simple, with this on I feel united with my ancestors. I am proud of them.It is sort of a reminder to always try to honor them with my actions.Besides that, I doubt if theres one soul in this city who could succeed in taking this from me." he snickered softly

His eyes shifted back to Aishe.Did she know this guy or what? He saw her look back to them. Apollyon tended to be antisocial, somewhat detached from the rest of the world. He met her look with a hephazard look.

"Looks like we may have company."
Cyrus 18 years ago
At the confused look Fallon had, Cyrus nodded his head afirmatively to what was probably her question. He wondered if she got it, and figured that he could fill her in on the ride home should she miss it.

At Aishe's comment he looked the fellow over. He was large but with the cane Cyrus assumed he was not quite as agile as himself or Darius.
"If you dont mind, we could move over to the table. More room for you large people."

Since they already had to be circumspect due to Aishe's presence what was one more. Their waitress came up and looked anxious as if something was wrong. Pressing a bill into her hand Cyrus reassured her. "We will be moving to this table if you dont mind moving the food over."

He got out of her way and watched as she bustled it off to the kitchen. She would probably be bringing out warm appetizers which was fine with him.
Ambrose 18 years ago
He had decided it wasn’t a date and as such… well he couldn’t be intruding too much Besides it was nice to have company while you drank and he didn’t know anyone in town yet.

“I think I’ll take you up on that.”

There seemed to be some concern about moving and room and the one guy was certainly a big guy so he could understand the concern. Still, he had a bit of a soft spot for the waitresses in a place like this and though a third solution might work best.

Finding his feet and moving his cane out of the way he looked to the helpful young woman and thought she might help again.

“Shall we try something in the spirit of compromise and shove this over there?”

He nodded from the table to the booth. Put the two together and there’d be plenty of room without confusing or upsetting the servers.
Aishe 18 years ago
"An excellent compromise!" Aishe grinned at the newcomer and took hold of one end of the table, looking expectantly over at Cyrus and Peter for one of them to take the other end.

With a nod back to the stranger, she said, "I'm Aishe, by the way. And these are Fallon, Peter, and Cyrus. Most of us are new to Nachton, except Cyrus here."

She beamed and hefted her end of the table.
Apollyon 18 years ago
Apollyon gave a shallow sigh as he smirked at aishe. Waving her off he took the table and put it into position. His eyes darted to those in the establishment who gazed his way. They all averted their eyes quickly as he seated himself.

"Now where was I? Ah yes... here I was"

he took a sip of the scotch and raised his hand and gained the waitress' attention.

"Ah, yes. A pitcher of yuengling please."

The Waitress nodded in comprehension, and returned a moment later with a pitcher of draft beer and some tall, frosted glasses.

"Thank you dear," Apollyon cooed as he looked into the waitress' eyes, who gave a flirtatious giggle. He closed his hand around hers and gave her a tip, sealing it with a kiss on her hand.Smiling wide as she walked away, Apollyon poured himself a glass of beer and downed it quickly.with some slight laughter Apolyon said,

"Hah Where are my manors? Anyone else care for some fine draft beer?!"
Fallon 18 years ago
As Fallon sat at the table with the others, and watched, she suddenly was overcome with a sense of belonging. It almost seemed to her that all her life she had been waiting for something, something big, and now, she was sure this was it.

Coming to Nachton, even meeting Panos, she now guessed had been her destiny. With Cyrus' help, she now appeared to have the possibility of a real family. A family that wouldn't abuse her, but would treat her with dignity, and respect, if she earned it. Something she originally felt was a horrific set of circumstances, now almost began to seem like a blessing.

When Cyrus got up to move, Fallon was overtaken with gratitude, and felt the need to display it. Since she wasn't really a touchy girl, and not given to random hugs, she casually rubbed his back, and found herself scratching behind his ear. The thought of him in his wereleopardness struck her, and it seemed natural to show a small sign of affection thusly.

Sitting down next to Cyrus, she smiled at the new man across the table, and watched as Peter and Aishe settled as well. Fallon wondered briefly what had happened to the man's leg, that he required a cane, but didn't dwell. When Aishe introduced Fallon, she stood and held out her hand towards the man, not feeling one hundred percent at ease with the action, but expecting it was the thing to do.

Peter, it turned out, seemed to have a genuine ability to smile at himself, and Fallon found him a little endearing because of it. Seeing her own drink was empty, she decided to take him up on his offer of a beer.

"Thank you, I'd like one please."

So now Fallon knew Cyrus was of Anantya, and Peter too, from Cyrus' slightly cryptic comment. Aishe? And what of this new man. Fallon was growing increasingly anxious to meet with the clan leader, and resolve that aspect of her new life.

"Thank you, I'd like one please."

"Comin' right up!"

Apollyon poised the pitcher as he grabbed one of the frosted glasses now on the table. he filled up the beer mug right to the point where the foam crested at the top of the glass. Using his uncanny dexterity he gave it a slight push and watched the mug glide right in front of Fallon and come to a stop right in front of her left hand. Looking to ambrose he asked,

"would you like some? or perhaps some scotch?"

Apollyon looked to the nearly 3/4 full bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label. He took the bottle of the scotch and filled his glass once more.savoring the burn, he looked to the newcomer once again and continued.

"Pardon me, I am Peter Johnson. and you are?"
