Rules, Community and Changes

As more people come to the board, we've noticed more of a need to explain the rules or send PMs about rules that are being broken (and not only by new members, sometimes even older ones forget or don't understand something). We thought we should explain a couple of things about the board, the rules, and the community.

First of all, we like SA...we like it a lot. We feel that many people (and not just the staff) have helped to make SA what it is. Secondly, we have a vision for SA, the vampires here, and the world around them. It is unique and we want it to stay that way. These are our vampires, not Anne Rice's or Joss Whedon's (Buffy) or White Wolf's (Vampire: the Masquerade). Some of us love those vampire stories also - Lestat is cool, Spike kicks ass, and Malkavians are crazy fun - however, this is our world and these are our vampires. We feel proud of them and think many of the people on the board have come to love that unique quality about the structure of the clans and the vampire physiology itself. Your characters should fit into this world and not another one. Either modify an existing concept if you must play something you've played before or make something new. Remember, though, that they aren't like those others and their cliches don't apply; our vampires aren't as dead looking as the ones in Anne Rice's novels, they aren't soulless evil creatures like the ones in Buffy, nor do they sense each other like some in V:tM.

We ask that people follow the rules and guidelines set up on the board. If you have a question about something, PM someone on the staff and they can help you. If you've posted something against the rules or the concept of the board and we PM you about it, then we ask that you edit it. This community and its members have made a feel for the place that is dark, witty, complex, charming, and often dangerous. We like that and we hope you like that about it also. People are reading the threads that are written and they help to create the reality of the place more firmly in everyone's head. As those threads are written, the reality is added to and slowly changed. We like that this happens but we also want to guide those changes to keep the feeling of the board true lest it become too silly, too safe and boring, or just no longer believable.

We occasionally change rules and descriptions and this is because we've found a need for a change. It could be that something was left out that would help define things better, something just isn't working administratively like we thought it would, or the way things are being used is against the original vision we had in mind for things. This isn't done to slight anyone or just because we're feeling particularly mean today - we feel mean every day; we bite, remember - it is because we've talked about it and felt that it needed to be done in order to keep things running like they should.

Thank you, we hope that you all feel like this is your world, also, because it is. We are simply its keepers, but you, the community, are its players and that is its heart.

Let us know what you think. We are always open to opinions and new ideas.
