A walk in the park ( att:Rachyl)

Panos thanked the shop owner of EO Styles once more for letting him use the back room to change. The khakis felt much better on his legs than the leather had, his shirt was cottony white and breezy. With the stores bag filled with his previous attire, Panos stepped out on the strip.

The stores door bell jingled behind him as it closed. He pulled down the bill of his new solid black baseball cap lower. It was early evening and the air still felt warm from the pesky sun that was now fast setting. His mouth tasted like a stale cigarette as he licked his lips. Dinner had been a street bum begging for change. He'd give a blowjob for 5 bucks if you asked the right questions. Panos figured it was better to kill the disease before it spread, seeing as there was no telling how many dicks the toothless bum had sucked.

As he walked he fumed. Homeless and planless Panos wandered aimless thinking about discovering his aunt.

'That bitch.' He thought to himself as he recounted her rejection. He was lineage damn it and she didnt even care! Everything he had ever heard about his amazing aunt Chryseis was a joke. She was just like the rest of his shitty family.

He had always been the bad seed, the fuck up and the loser. His father had much more pride in his brothers than in him. It was that reason alone that Panos had killed their father Alexander. His brothers, they had left him to rot and die in some dark alleyway, the very alley that he had been attacked and turned. They didn't care if he ever returned home. But when he did, they begged for their lives on both knees. He could still hear their pleas in his head. The soft melody of their misery and shock at seeing him. Then the beautiful harmony of their screams as he repaid them for their sins.

And now there was Meegan. He wasnt quite sure what to think about her. She was so mezmerising. He wanted her, wanted her badly. He had been through many women and it was rare he had ever gotten turned down by one. In those rare occurances, he always found a suitable way to prevent those girls from ever turning any man down again. Their screams were the chorus to his brothers.

But Meegan, she had rejected him but not at the same time. She extended her help to him yet called upon another vampire to intervein. It confused and excited him. He would find her again. No doubt that yuppy of a vampire had her hidden somewhere.

How vallant. Panos spat.

He was fast approaching the park near downtown. Seeing the green of the trees leaves reminded him of Meegans eyes. He walked onto the cobble stone entrance and entered the park through its cast iron gates. As he walked he closed his eyes and let the warm arm surround him trying to remember Greece. It had been so long since he had last been there that he could not remmeber anything.

Sighing inward he opened his eyes back up and stopped a bit startled. Before him, in the specifically sectioned off part of the park that was meant for dogs, was one of the girls from the picture with Meegan. Her hair was a stark obviously died reddish color that was piled off of her head. Her stance was angry and she was standing infront of a bulky tall man, staring directly up at it.

He slowly but casually made his way over to approach them.

Rachyl's mind was awash with "what to do," but it was quickly overpowered by her imagination's view of Meegan flipping out over Dill.

"Oh my god! Oh my god! He kicked him! He kicked him! And now he's touching him!"

Had it been any other moment, near any other people, she would have laughed, but right now, her mind was telling her "get dog and girl away from man and contact her."

"The Piazza's nice, down at the other end of The Strip, or if that's out of your range," "Geez, I sound like a tour guide," she thought to herself as she continued, "There's a cheapy one-night hotel a couple blocks further north."

Rachyl let out the breath she'd been partially holding when Dill started to stir. "I don't think he'll like you when he wakes up."

"Hell, I don't like you. But damned if I'm not going to find out what I can." She looked to Jack who was still standing protectively uncertain off to the side. She gave him a look so as to say, "We need to talk."

Maybe you do not understand so much as who or 'what' I am. Hotels offer great comfortable resting places but do not offer the second half of what i seek. I need to be anonomous, and even if i were to change my name for secrecy sake there are still too many people around there.

He needed to convince her to let him stay with her. Besides facing another night in the beat off room at the cafe he knew she was a way into Meegans life. A way to find out who that sappy bastard was that took her from him. Anger flared up all the way from his belly to his deep brown eyes. Hi chewed it back down and looked into her face.

I will not hurt you Ms. Walker. You believed that before when i foolishly thought to scare you into doing what i wished. You didn't flinch then, you didn't cry out and I have yet to see you flinch now as i ask this of you. You are stronger than everyone else and that strength is shown in magnitude by your resilience to easily bounce back from what I've thrown at you.I can teach you more to further that strength if you so diesire.

He smiled softly at her and nodded back to the dog.

I promise I'm house trained.

"House trained or not, you're not staying at my place." She lifted Dill into her arms; he seemed groggy and was quiet, and when he caught "Pauly" in his vision, his eyes widened, but he didn't make a sound. Jack was still wary and followed her with just his eyes as she stood then faced "Pauly."

Rachyl's brain began to percolate a plan around the voice shouting inside her head, "keep him away from me!". Meegan wasn't at home. And she'd probably find it slightly ironic to know the man who attacked or tried to attack her was staying at her condo... "A friend of mine is out of town. You can stay there for a couple days, but that's all."

She looked at the sun through the trees, still high in the sky for an early August evening. "It's only two blocks away."

Panos stood with Rachyl and tucked the brim of his hat lower.

She had refused him staying with her once again but in returned offered a solution. An empty condo would work well enough for him. It would give him much privacy and perhaps she would be stopping by to check on him and the place.

I will back down and accept your offer of this other condo. Do i have the pleasure of having you to escort me there?
Rachyl 18 years ago
Condo. He said "condo." He really did know "too much" about too much...

Rachyl arched a well-defined eyebrow and laughed heartily.
"Oh, to compliment my apartment by calling it a condo, surely you're not a real estate agent, trying to flatter a purchasing visitor?"

When they finally reached 53rd and Elm, Rachyl left Dill at the door with Jack. Thankfully, he was still quiescent, even though they'd arrived at his true home.

Mrs. Carmichael was also thankfully absent - probably out at her weekly bingo game - as she walked "Pauly" up the stairs.

From her purse she took out the key and disarmed the alarm.
"You won't need the alarm. Please stay out of the master bedroom," she said as she walked him in. It seemed so empty without Meegan and Dill.

She showed him the guest room.
"You can stay in here. There's soda in the pantry next to the fridge. Phone's in the kitchen. Feel free to order pizza or Chinese, there's menus hanging in a bin on the wall near the phone."

She handed him a twenty. Her last twenty... all she had left was a five.

When i first came to town i did some research for purchasing my own living quaters. Most of the area around the park had originally been apartments but remodeled into condos. I was only assuming I assure you. Though it seems most of the remodeled condos are north of the park, so it was by pure chance that i was right. I havent seen many houses in this city to be honest.

He had only briefly surveyed for a home before he decided to just pick up a loft at the domicile. That was ruined now. He could look into obtaining his own place still, but he'd have to 'off' a might rich person fast for that to happen.

They walked along the street and he noted the street signs as she paused and led him to the a door.

You won't need the alarm. Please stay out of the master bedroom.

He nodded in agreement. As they stepped inside the home he felt his body relax from the sunset. It was dark and cool inside and he flipped the lights on behind them to be sure they were alone. She showed him to a bedroom and opened the door.

You can stay in here. There's soda in the pantry next to the fridge. Phone's in the kitchen. Feel free to order pizza or Chinese, there's menus hanging in a bin on the wall near the phone

At this moment she pulled out a twenty dollar bill and handed it to him. He looked down at the crisp bill and held it out back to her.

Thank you, but I should be fine this evening. Please, you keep it. You may need it for a taxi ride, or do you live nearby?

He stood next to her at the entrance to the room and surveyed it. It rang familiar to him from inside. Something about the design of the room made his mind ache.

Should I leave the door unlocked when i go out?

Rachyl handed the keycard to Panos. "Mrs. Carmichael, the first floor nosey-body old lady who's actually pretty nice, will be home soon from her bingo game. She is usually in bed before nine, so she shouldn't bother you. The second floor is purchased but empty and no one's lived there in almost two months now."

She walked back out to the end of the hall and pointed just to her left. "Bathroom with standing shower. Towels are on the shelf near the sink. Toilet flushes but sometimes you need to jiggle the handle."

She looked down the hall towards the master bedroom, then the entertainment room, and back to "Pauly." "TV's in the room to my right here," and she pointed.

She imagined the drawing table and computer were both gone, so decided not to mention that. She also hoped the "special" DVDs were gone as well, with Meegan's music. She always needed her music when she was creating.

"That should be pretty much it."

Panos tucked the keycard into his right back pocket and folded his arms across his stomach.

Thank you. I do appreciate this and i mean what I said. He fished around in his other back pocket and produced a bussiness sized piece of paper.

One good turn deserves another, you have assisted me and I will keep my offer of assistance open to you. For whatever you need, you can call this number here.

He offered her the paper.

I know that our first meeting was abrupt and full of oddities and strange occurances, but I hope our second meet is much different.
Rachyl 18 years ago
Rachyl took the business card and held it in her hand, not looking at it. "Thanks."

With that, Rachyl turned to leave.

(( Awaiting a response but ultimately exiting. ))
Panos Mehalitsenos 18 years ago
He watched the door close behind her and shook his head. He wondered if she would use the number on the paper at all. He would keep his word though whether or not she called.

He always kept his word.
