Fort Grey

Thaddeus set his pen down to rest at last and sighed, raking his fingers through his hair. He had, in the end, composed several letters, the longest of which was the explanation of Alfarinn and Simon's involvement, though that was certainly not the most draining for him to write.

He set the longest of the letters, stuffed in a thick envelope, on the counter of the bar. The others he placed neatly between the pages of the text he had brought from the Manor. Book in hand, he walked back to the bedroom and carefully opened the door.

Alfarinn continued to sleep soundly, a vision of marble skin and flowing hair spread over the blankets. It was more than a little tempting to climb back into bed and simply run his hands over that sculpted body, or attempt to kiss the Evenhet back into the waking world, but Thaddeus refrained, instead moving to the chest of drawers and placing the book in the top drawer. He had managed to find the passage he was searching for during a break from writing letters, and it had unfortunately proved as uninformative as he had remembered. He took one last lingering look at Alfarinn before exiting the bedroom, knowing if he stayed temptation would overrule his good sense.

Instead, he returned to the living room. His keyboard was now displayed prominently against one wall, though he did not think it wise to play right now; surely the depth Alfarinn's sleep had its limits, after all. Still, he ran his bare fingers over the keys, not firmly enough to make a sound, simply taking in their texture before approaching the long, narrow wooden box on the floor.

Inside the box was his sword, and Thaddeus smiled as he gripped it, remembering its weight. He did not often touch even this with his bare hand, concerned he would lose the senses tied to it, but today it was comforting to feel the hands of his father in the only way he could. Underneath the feel of those hands Thaddeus could sense other things, some of them dark, but his father he felt most of all as he stood. He shifted his weight, moved his shoulders, his wrists, his feet, his body remembering each action, his mind reveling in the sense of immediacy and presence the feel of a sword brought him.

He was startled out of his reverie by a knock on the door, and he hastily put the sword away. He checked the peephole and observed the uniformed man waiting outside, then realized he really ought to put on a shirt before answering the door and accepting the delivery. Somehow Alfarinn's more laid back attitudes about such things had rubbed off on him, he supposed. He scurried back to the bedroom and grabbed the first shirt he saw, throwing it over his head as he returned to the door to answer the now insistent knocking.

It was, of course, Alfarinn's shirt. And it was far too big for him. Thaddeus found he did not much mind, and answered the door with an uncharacteristic grin for the stranger. The smile faded sharply when the stylus was placed in his hands to sign the electronic signature tablet, but he bit his lip, concentrated on getting his name signed, and even managed to place it back where it belonged instead of dropping it. Then the package was placed in his hand and the delivery person was gone. Thaddeus closed the door quickly and looked down at the package doubtfully. Inside was his new laptop. He felt rather like a young man who had just had an infant thrust in his arms; wary and mystified and oddly pleased.

He walked to the third bedroom, intent on ripping open the package and carefully examining this new device.

Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn hadn't been expecting Thaddeus to want him to bite him again but being what he was it was a part of passion for him and he had to believe that most of his kind would feel the same way. Hearing his lover's encouragement stoked the already raging desire inside him, Alfarinn carefully sank his teeth into Thaddeus. His eyes closed as that sweet flow of blood seeped into his mouth bringing the connection that was so new raging back to vivid life, making them in that instance once more fully united with one need.

There was no stopping the sensations that were overwhelming him and Alfarinn didn't bother to try. He wrapped his arms around Thaddeus and held him as he lost himself under the tidal wave of pleasure.

Running his lips over the wound, Alfarinn felt it heal beneath him, he held Thaddeus close as the feeling of peace and completion filled him once more.
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Fangs sank slowly into his neck and Thaddeus was finally overcome completely, his whole world engulfed in bright pleasure. The connection between them seemed to flare at the bite, and Thaddeus gasped at the fresh awareness of that unity coupled with the culmination of their passion. He wrapped his arm around Alfarinn, twining one hand in blonde hair as he trembled with their shared enjoyment.

When his mind at last caught up with him, Alfarinn was tenderly kissing the bite, and Thaddeus shivered, holding the other man close in contentment.

[That. Was phenomenal.]

It was a long moment before he could think of much else, though eventually practicality got the better of him. He kissed Alfarinn softly on the cheek and smiled gently.

We need a shower. I promise to behave and concentrate on getting clean.

He carefully omitted who, exactly, he would be concentrating on washing.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn looked down at Thaddeus and smiled.

"I think you've put the indescribable into words."

He Kissed his companion gently and then moved to bury his face into the crook of Thaddeus's neck, murmuring quietly against his skin. "I suppose it would be too much to ask for to simply stay here." The peace he felt seemed to beg him to lay here with Thaddeus's hand wound in his hair as they spoke of nothing important for hours. He knew though that there was much yet to be done and so with a small sigh, and another kiss, Alfarinn eased himself up and away and climbed out of the bed.

"I'll be right back...don't go anywhere." Alfarinn smiled and went to turn on the shower. Making sure the water was warm and that towels were handy, he went back to Thaddeus.

He stood at the edge of the bed a moment, trailing fingertips lightly down Thaddeus's shoulder and arm. Leaning forward, he scooped the Anantya into his arms, one hand around his back and another under his knees and carried him into the shower with him.
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus rubbed one fingertip along the outside of the silver band on his thumb as he watched Alfarinn retreat to the bathroom, smiling at the now familiar turn of phrase. While he would very much like to stay in bed and simply share kisses and thoughts and touches, in reality they had already spent more time in enjoyment than responsibility allowed.

He could sincerely say the time was well spent. Still, he could not help but think of how enjoyable it would be when they were not constantly on borrowed time. Because they were going to make it to the other side of this. The letters were written and the arrangements all but made, and now Thaddeus could set his mind on what was to come with confidence in the outcome and no nagging worries regarding things he could not control plaguing him.

Alfarinn returned quickly enough and Thaddeus propped himself up on his elbows, making to get up, when he was quite unexpectedly lifted from the bed by strong arms. He actually laughed, the sudden shift both startling and delighting, before wrapping his arms around his companion as he was carried into the warm blast of the shower.

Once there and having found his footing after a bit of uncharacteristic stumbling, which could easily be written off as a combination of the somewhat slippery floor and, he would concede, no small amount of giddiness, he pulled Alfarinn close to him and simply allowed the water to pour over them both for a time. Deciding they were both sufficiently soaked for the task at hand, and that any further standing about could only be considered gratuity, he moved to retrieve the bottle of shampoo and turned back to Alfarinn, smiling. He moved to his companion's back, and reflected that this was not at all a poor substitute for lying in bed. As his fingers slid through Alfarinn's hair, he spoke his thoughts, not stressing a conclusion just yet, but simply further sharing his mind.

I imagine this is written all over our faces, Alfarinn. I am beginning to second guess my earlier thoughts on when to tell our Clans, considering I feel they will know the truth at a glance. Quite honestly, going to the Manor together presents a situation where we would have to be more deceptive than I am comfortable with, though reason dictates that it is for the best to continue discretion.

I am of two minds on the matter; my heart tells me to be upfront, that you are too important to cover in deception, and my mind tells me that you are too important not to.

Thaddeus sighed as he leaned into Alfarinn's back.

I would like very much for us to act as we are when we visit the Manor. I simply cannot help but think I am being neither realistic nor objective in the matter.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Hearing Thaddeus laugh lifted Alfarinn's spirits still further until he actually felt light hearted. It occurred to him that this situation was so much easier than it could have been. He could not imagine Thaddeus going through this alone, or even with him simply as a distant partner and it made him very glad that he was here to bring some comfort and happiness to the man in his arms.

He was not at all surprised to find that Thaddeus immediately picked up the shampoo bottle and he obediently tilted back his head for his companion. Reveling in the feel of those graceful fingers running through his hair, Alfarinn shut his eyes and simply enjoyed the moment.

Thaddeus's words and warmth brought him back to the present and he turned and pulled his companion to him, raising a hand to run it through Thaddeus's hair.

"Perhaps... We are not completely without skill, either of us, however, there are those among both clans that are used to dealing with even the best of actors. Also, there will be no hiding amongst Evenhet. I am hardly the only empath there and while.." He smiled and looked down at Thaddeus. "But I've never mentioned that." Alfarinn shook his head with an amused smile. "Funny how I seem to think you know all this already. I have the ability to fool those with... well.. my abilities. I seemed to have been uniquely made for my role." He shrugged. There was serious doubt in his mind that he could hide anything from Thaddeus with their bond, not that he was going to try, at the very least it was likely to be known that he was hiding something. Alfarinn chuckled inwardly at the thought that there would be very few surprise parties planned for each other in their future.

"Still... all that aside." He hugged Thaddeus, kissing him lightly on the temple before continuing. " I hide a lot of things even in my own clan but I don't want to hide you. I am happy to be with you, elated, grateful. A part of me is surprised that you here, perhaps that will change in time, but it amazes me that someone hasn't found you and locked you away somewhere to cherish away from prying eyes." He sighed and smiled. "Its tempting. I am proud of you and honored to be with you. I want people to know it but there is also a selfish possessiveness that wants people to know I was here first, by whatever stroke of good fortune came my way, because I can't imagine people not seeing what I see and wanting to be with you as well." He found his confession somewhat embarrassing but there was no mistaking the feeling through the bond they shared so there was no use in trying to hide it.

"I hope you understand."
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus blushed and leaned his head on Alfarinn's shoulder, oddly shy in the face of his companion's statements.

I think what you see in me is as much a credit to you as it is to me, perhaps more. While I do not share your abilities...I think I can guess who was responsible for locking me away, and I had been fairly successful for quite some time in that.

He looked up and touched Alfarinn's cheek, his brow creased in consideration. A flicker of confusion passed through him, a moment of indecision as his mind struggled to come to the truth of the matter. He ran his other hand absently over his own neck, feeling smooth unbroken skin where Alfarinn had bitten him, and realized that now even the slightest bruise would be healed.

I am glad -you- found me; I only wish you had found me sooner. And I think I do understand. He slipped his arms back around his companion, tightening his grip just for a moment, before smiling against Alfarinn's skin.

I was supposed to be concentrating.

He pulled away to reach for a washcloth and soap, working a lather with his hands before running the soft cloth over Alfarinn's skin in gentle circles. That matter attended to, he went back to speaking.

The people that I love, I believe, amount to the best of me. You are a part of me, Alfarinn, and I want my family to see that, just as I want you to see the people that helped make me what I am. I want...that connection.

He frowned for a moment, trying to explain, then sighed.

This, to me, is more than what we are behind locked doors; I want you as a part of my life.

He moved to Alfarinn's back, kissing one shoulder softly before continuing his washing with at least a minimal level of concentration.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn smiled and watched Thaddeus continue his work. That his companion wanted him to be a part of his life in such a way filled him with a sense of security and pleasure. He had wondered early on if Thaddeus might be ashamed of him and was relieved that this was not the case. He'd known better on some level all along but moments like the one in the mall made him wonder. He knew that they needed to keep their association a secret for obvious reasons but he wondered if the situation aided his companion in putting off something he'd rather not do. Anantya wasn't likely going to be happy about their relationship and it pained Alfarinn to know that he might cause Thaddeus grief with his clan but he was glad that it meant enough to Thaddeus to tell them anyway.

For his own part, He'd not be able to hide that he was seeing someone from many of Evenhet for very long, nor would he have wanted to hide his association with Thaddeus to those that matter the most to him. In a few cases, he did worry about what his companion was likely to think of him after meeting them. Evenhet had some very colorful personalities and he doubted Thaddeus would find all of them to his liking.

Turning around and pulling his hair over one shoulder and out of the way, he said.

" I am glad you feel that way. I very much agree and though I think some of my family will embarrass me..." He shrugged and grinned. "I want you to meet them and for them to know how much you mean to me."

"So... whose relatives are we meeting first?" Alfarinn chuckled softly at how normal that sounded, as if they really were the two teenagers they appeared to be bringing someone home for the first time.
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus shook his head and grinned at the thought of Alfarinn's clansmen embarrassing him. He was not deluded into thinking that there would be no awkward moments upon meeting each other's clans; he could imagine that Anantya's reactions would range from amusement to outright anger.

Even for immortals...I suppose one does not choose their family. Family finds us, and we make it work because it is better than being in this world alone. And somewhere along the line we realize that we love them, and nothing they could do could make us stop.

He grinned ruefully, thinking of Talon's destruction in the cathedral.

Though I agree, some clansmen can certainly try one's patience. I cannot promise you will be greeted with a fatted calf, and Anantya will...need time.

He felt something twist in him then, when he thought of Alfarinn's suspicions of his clan. He knew, with grim determination, that he could do what must be done even in the dark circumstance that Alfarinn was correct, but the more he allowed himself to think of that, the more it worried him. He realized that what he had said was true; he could not imagine, even in the face of the worst betrayal, not loving a clansman.

He pushed the thought away and spoke again, more quietly, resuming his motions over Alfarinn's skin.

It will be better when our mission is over. Less underlying tension.

He chuckled at Alfarinn's phrasing, and it was a hard kick to that sudden sadness.

Anantya. I need to speak with Mai before we move forward.

Thaddeus took a step back to admire his handiwork before hanging up one wash cloth and grabbing another for himself.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
"Alright then." Alfarinn turned around and looked at Thaddeus. Seeing him pick up the washcloth, he gently took it away from him with a shake of his head.

"And just what makes you think you're getting to have all the fun."

He leaned forward to kiss his companion gently, feeling the water on their lips and was tempted to continue the pleasant distraction for a while longer. With a sigh, Alfarinn leaned back and put the cloth on his shoulder and reached for the shampoo.

Pulling Thaddeus against his chest, he ran both hands into the short strands, leaning his companion's head back gently to keep it out of his eyes.
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus leaned forward on tiptoes to prolong that kiss just a moment longer, then smirked at Alfarinn's query.

My mistake.

The smirk quickly turned into a broad smile as Alfarinn worked elegant fingers through his hair. He wondered absently if he shouldn't attempt to grow it a little longer, if for no other reason than a shameless excuse to give the Evenhet more to work with, before once again deciding it would just look silly on him.

I cannot help but think that the rather elaborate shower in my quarters pales in comparison to this.

He relaxed into Alfarinn's touch, pleased and comfortable.

Shall we take your limo or shall I call ahead to the Manor for a vehicle? Depending on how long it takes to set up the cameras; I think we could likely be finished in the time it takes for a car to get here.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
"I can call the limo, its not a problem and tell him to leave as soon as we are dropped off so there is no security problem for the Manor."

Though this put Alfarinn alone in the middle of a bunch of Anantya, he could just hear what Megan would say to that. It wasn't a pleasant lecture in his head but he tuned it out for the moment. In fact, he'd gotten rather good at ignoring them over the years.

Taking the washcloth from his shoulder, he added soap and slowly turning Thaddeus around in his arms,he reached around and began to wash his companion's chest.

"That leaves me stranded with a bunch of Anantya, I'll just have to trust you can keep them off of me." He bent down to nibble lightly on Thaddeus's ear. "You'll protect me, right?" Alfarinn smiled. "Simon was describing that one large fellow and Morrigan...she can be quite scary."
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus twisted his neck to look up sharply at Alfarinn before relaxing somewhat, sighing at the nibble on his ear and the touches over his chest. No one would dare harm you; they know me better than that. He felt his jaw set at the statement before he realized that Alfarinn was speaking somewhat lightly.

Morrigan can be stern, but she is both fair and honorable. And I could take Talon down any day, no need to worry about him. He grinned at that image. Well, perhaps not, but Mai could and she's with us in this.

In all seriousness...you will be safe. I would not let anything happen to you.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
"You are absolutely irresistible when fierce." Alfarinn smiled at the determined look on his companion's face. It was truly quite handsome, that look of focus and determination.

Hearing him speak of Morrigan, Alfarinn remembered the first time he'd met the Anantya ancient back when they were both in the same clan. They both fought the Romans occupying Britain. He can still see her clearly... bloody sword held high, long red hair streaming in the wind, a feral sort of bravery in her ice blue eyes as she commanded her army into battle. Alfarinn knew her to be stern but fair but he never could forget that this particular rose had thorns.

Hearing Thaddeus speak of taking down this other Anantya made him grin.

"Remind me not to get you angry with me." His companion's voice turned serious and Alfarinn held him close a moment before continuing his cleaning.

"I know, Thaddeus, I trust you."
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus chuckled self depreciatingly.

Quite right. I can be very dangerous when provoked. He kept his tone light, though there was steel behind it. It is a good thing you incite me to...other behaviors. Though I suppose I cannot, in all fairness, claim to be innocent in such pursuits.

He leaned into Alfarinn's embrace, holding the other man as close as he was held. In truth he believed that anything that happened to Alfarinn would occur over his own mangled corpse, and he knew at the very least that it took more than a hit to bring him down. That, however, was neither convincing nor comforting when spoken aloud, and he thought it best to let it alone. Instead, he looked up at Alfarinn solemnly, relieved that his companion had a measure of faith in him; at least in his judgment.

Good.

Placing a soft kiss on Alfarinn's collarbone, Thaddeus lingered a bit longer under the water before reluctantly realizing they were both quite clean enough to be getting on with their work. He sighed and turned off the water, stepping out of the shower and offering Alfarinn his hand.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn took the hand that was offered to him and regarded his companion with a raised eyebrow.

"Are you admitting that I am a good -influence-. Thaddeus?"

He leaned over the tub to wring the excess water out of his hair before looking back at his companion. Taking a towel, he began to dry Thaddeus off, still smiling.

"That certainly sounded very much like a confession. I must be doing something horribly wrong." Alfarinn pretended to ponder a moment. "I've drug you out to a fetish club, got us into a verbal battle in the mall, distracted us from the work we were supposed to be doing today AND I'm pretty sure we just used a great deal more water than absolutely necessary." He shook his head sadly, and looked at Thaddeus from underneath a long portion of wet hair.

"I'm quite the troublemaker."
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus appeared to consider this argument carefully for a moment before shaking his head in the negative.

I think we shall have to share credit for our troublemaking ways, considering I brought you into this whole situation, seduced you with my youth and charm, and the shower was -my- suggestion in the first place.

He took another towel off the rack for Alfarinn, though he paused for a moment to capture the image of the Evenhet peering at him through wet hair before seeing to him.

I will concede that we might both take credit for being good influences as well. He threw a towel around his waist and opened the bathroom door, then turned to Alfarinn, raising an eyebrow.

I think the trouble maker in me will win out, however, if we don't put some clothes on.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
"This is the part where I behave, right?"

Alfarinn grinned and patted Thaddeus on the ass as he moved back out into the bedroom. Finding some comfortable jeans, he slid those on and was about to get another tee shirt when he noticed the one that Thaddeus had worn earlier.

"I don't suppose I could get you to wear these more often?" He picked it up and slipped it over his head, the image of Thaddeus in wearing it coming vividly back to mind thanks to his gift of psychometry.

"Let's start with the laptop and while you get familiar with it I can set up some of the cameras."
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus gave Alfarinn his most scandalized expression before realizing the other man had moved on; that, in fact, he had allowed the Evenhet to escape before he could retaliate in kind. Shaking his head, he followed Alfarinn out of the bathroom and headed for the closet to follow his own advice. He selected something with unusual efficiency and dressed in the black slacks and under shirt quickly, sliding his arms into the dark grey shirt and giving his attention to Alfarinn as he did up the buttons.

Perhaps I should get one to fit me. I suspect the look would not suit me as well as it does you, though.

He turned back to the closet and pulled Mai's necklace carefully off the hook on the wall, smiling as he slipped it over his head and let it fall down his shirt, then responded to Alfarinn's suggestion.

Agreed. He headed for the bedroom door, pausing only long enough to settle the small matter of a return pat on the ass.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn chuckled at the retaliation and followed Thaddeus into the other room. Pulling out a chair in front of the laptop, he gestured for his companion to have a seat.

Leaning over Thaddeus's shoulder, he pointed out the various external features such as the power button, where to plug in a headset, the power cord and the like before turning it on and going through the user profile.

"You'll want a log in id and password." Alfarinn turned to Thaddeus and waited for the Anantya to decide on those.
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus listened attentively as Alfarinn explained the workings of the laptop, tilting his head to one side in interest. While he had given the machine a look over in the store, the thing was still somewhat mysterious to him, though Alfarinn seemed quite comfortable with it.

He hesitated for a moment before placing his fingers uncertainly on the keys. He looked down at the letters, pressed one, confirmed that the action yielded the desired result, and typed the rest of the username in a similar fashion.

Well. I will have to get better at this.

His surname filling up the first field, he moved to the touch pad to get the cursor where he needed it. The uncooperative thing earned a scowl from Thaddeus as it first refused to move at all, then jumped suddenly across the screen, but he finally managed the act that had been so effortless for the man in the store.

When he was done typing, choosing for a password the second word in his sword's name, he looked up at Alfarinn and smiled sheepishly.

I shall have to introduce you to Via Veritas. If you recall my mentioning of it...he raised his eyebrow and spoke in a falsely serious tone. 'That sword has a brother.' He gave a little shrug. I brought it here, from the Manor.

In any case, I thought it fitting. Perhaps it will bring us some truth.
