Good morning sunshine..

Rene groaned softly as the sun beamed down behind her, bright beams of gold filtering through the gauzy white drapes. She hadn't thought about that little trivial bit of knowledge when she had placed her bed in front of the eastern exposed window. Oh well, it couldn't hurt too badly to get up at the crack of dawn. Of course, she could always buy some of those heavy drapes that blocked out the unwanted rays. Dropping her feet to the bare wood floor, she stretched her arms high over her head, feeling some of the tension ease from her body.

A mere fifteen minutes later saw her showered, dressed, and ready to head out the door. An apple grabbed from the bowl on the counter and a quick glass of orange juice from the fridge served as breakfast to go. She smiled as she turned from locking her front door and faced the one bit of vanity in her life, a cherry red, brand spanking new Mustang.

Luckily one of the benefits to finding out who her father had been had been the discovery of a rather nice nest egg he had left for her to claim upon his death. She hated the fact that she had never been able to meet the man, but she was damned if she would turn away a sizable fortune in the form of a trust fund for Ali's education and her own play money. She could have lived off the income generated from numerous investments she had since made, but she preferred the life of a cop. At least no one could ever accuse her of being bought; she was already paid for.

She eased into the red leather bucket seat, hands lovingly caressing the black steering wheel. Sitting the spill-proof glass of juice in the holder between the seats, she held the apple in her mouth. Key turned in the ignition, she gave it a little gas and smiled to herself as she took a bite from the apple. "That's right, baby, purr for me." She laughed softly as the DJ announced an oldie but goodie, Cherry Pie from Warrant. Still laughing, she slammed the stick into reverse and gunned the gas. Swinging the car around in her drive, she took off towards Nachton, humming along to the old favorite for the first few minutes of her fifteen minute commute to the station.
