Tai sat in the living room of the town house he and Val owned together. They had started out in an apartment but it had quickly become clear that they each wanted more space than even a large penthouse could afford them.

They made plenty of money between the two of them so they'd purchased this swanky town home in an upscale part of Nachton. It had three stories, the bottom one below ground. That belonged solely to Val. The ground floor was the living area, dining area, kitchen, a spare room that currently served as a small library, and the exit to a concrete 'backyard.' The top floor belonged to Tai. This way, they both had their own private area separated by an entire story, as well as the area they shared.

It wasn't that they never entered the other's rooms. On the contrary; they had seen each other's personal space many times, from various vantages depending on their current positions.

Their rather open relationship was pleasant to both of them. Tai knew Val hooked up with other men, just as he had slept with other women. They were friends, however, insofar as Tai had any friends. As far as roommates went, he suspected he was probably a pretty tolerable one. He stayed pretty quiet and didn't bring guests home.

He was currently stretched out on the recliner in front of the TV. Val was out again tonight, probably with her new toy. Tai didn't know who he was but he could smell him on Val now and then. It didn't matter much to him, but if Val was enjoying it then good for her.

He looked up when she walked in, about an hour before dawn. He raised his eyebrows in greeting and glanced over at the table in the dining area. As they didn't eat dinner or entertain, it was more of a gathering place for various messages and such. On top of the table was a USPS parcel.

Tai didn't bother saying anything about it. He figured it pretty much spoke for itself. Clearly it had arrived for Val earlier in the evening. If if had been for Tai it wouldn't be sitting unopened on the table.

Wasn't that a damned fine question. Val laughed her smoky sexy laugh but it was tinged with irony. Turning to face Tai who was next to her she answered simply and honestly.

"I haven't got a clue."

If she saw him, if Giovanni ever came back for these things, Val might kill him. You didn't throw people into a game like this with no information, with no plan or idea or way of protecting themselves. Hell she didn't even know if Brosco was the problem or the one they were keeping an eye on. After all these years he wouldn't be a mortal, not if he'd had anything to do with Capone or the Outfit. But who said he did.

Val snapped the laptop closed in irritation.

"I never met any of my 'siblings' officially, don't even know how many there are. For that matter I don't to Brosco. We could be in a world of hurt here lover."

Seventy two hours, that was it. That is all she was giving this to make sense. After that she started doing stupid things like hacking those files and heading to Chicago to see what the fuck was in that safety deposit box. The clock was ticking.

"I don't suppose that peeling someone offer would extend to the old man would it?"

Val asked sweetly, but the fact that she even asked was evidence of how irritated she was was the situation. The question, however, was largely rhetorical though. Somethings you either did yourself or, more likely, you just didn't do.

Tai made a face of disgust when Val admitted she had no information on who might be coming to search for this information. Wonderful. Nothing like knowing nothing. At least the two of them, paranoid criminals that they were, had taken very strict precautions when it came to their own personal safety. It would take a minor miracle for anyone to be able to access this townhouse without either of them knowing, even if they weren't home at the time.

Tai raised his eyebrows at Val when she asked about her Creator. He knew she meant it humorously but humor and Tai didn't always meet on common ground. So he nodded at her and simply responded,
"Of course."

Then he turned and headed for the stairs that led to his floor, switching the television off.
"I'm going to go polish my sword."

He allowed a sly smirk to cross his lips as he looked back over his shoulder at his partner.
"Care to help?"

If Val actually wanted to polish a sword she could, but Tai's gaze made his double meaning very clear. Regardless, he headed up the staircase and into his darkened suite.

That sounded rather serious. Val cocked her head considering that statement. She didn't -think- a throw down would leave Tai alive, but one never knew. Even the very -very- old weren't invincible.

"Sexy."

She said simply but she didn't move as she considered this useless box of crap that Giovanni had sent. It was a Pandora's box, all the troubles in the world were in there. It would either be hella fun or deathly dull.

As she absently turned ideas around in her head trying to work out who they were keeping an eye on, why, if she should go Chicago or not. While she thought she watched Tai move. While he was just shutting off the TV it was still hot as hell. Sort of like watching a tiger, didn't mater what the tiger was doing it was still a tiger.

At his offer she stood and stretched lazily. At least he hadn't forgotten where they'd left off before this box and she could use something to take her mind off it.

She subtly licked her lips, and eyed him boldly.

"It is a two man job isn't it? All that... weaponry. I'll be right there."

Quickly the box was stashed in a closet and the locks double checked and then Val quietly trotted up the stairs to help.
