Rainy Day (attn: Gris)

Josh woke up slowly to the sound of rain and soft, distant thunder outside. Inside he was warm and dry and curled up around Gris. He craned his neck to look at the clock on the dresser and discovered it was shortly past eight in the morning. Later than he normally slept in, but not as late as they'd talked about. Not that they'd done much talking.

Rubbing his eyes Josh extricated himself from the bed as quietly as he could, tucking the quilt back around Gris. He remembered them staggering into his apartment in a haze of lust, and after that it was a bit of a blur... a carnally pleasant blur.

Naked, he walked down to the front entry, unworried about peepers. They were too high up. Gris's gray scarf hung from the door knob. Josh's sweater was on the floor. Further in, in the den, was Gris's sweater.

A soft smile of amusement upon his lips, Josh went through the penthouse picking up their discarded items from each room until he was back in the bedroom, where his jeans were on the floor and his boxers were hanging half off the bed. Placing the clothing on the mostly clear dresser top Josh crawled back into bed. Remembering last night did nothing to dissuade him from curling up behind Gris once more, wrapping his arms around him and nuzzling close.

"Coffee's on," he murmured into Gris's ear, "but it'll keep."

He pressed against his partner, but not insistently. Not only had they made love desperately upon arriving, but again after that... and then they'd woken up just a couple hours ago and done it once more. If Gris wasn't a morning person, so to speak Josh certainly wasn't going to push. But he would admit to feeling a little bit of pressure on that score, to keep up with his more youthful lover. He didn't want Gris to find him lacking in stamina.

Gris found himself wrapped in Josh's arms, his sweatpants held out in front of him. "Devoured....right here in the kitchen.” He turned in the circle of his lover's arms. "That sounds quite kinky, Josh.” His smile said that he was perfectly willing to be that kinky.

"On the counter?” He mused, while taking his clothing from his companion. "Or up against the refrigerator? The floor might be a little cold.” Of course so would the refrigerator but having Josh pressed up against him would soon make him forget all about being cold no matter where they decided to do it.

He stepped into his pants and cast a coy wink and a smile over his shoulder at his partner. "It will have to wait until I devour something.” Gris gave Josh a long look before turning to the refrigerator door. "with a large amount of calories in it. I think I might need all of them. And so will you.”

Pulling out the eggs and then rummaging around the shelves and drawers, he found cheese, a fresh tomato, and an onion and set them on the counter. "Anything else you want to add to this omelet?”

Turning around to Josh, he ran a hand down his chest. "You don't look too thin but I plan on feeding you enough to make you need all that exercise that you do and then some.” He was much thinner than Josh, not scrawny just more lean and without some serious weight lifting he would never get bigger. "I like to run. We can run together before work if that might help you enjoy it more.” Running was the safest thing they could do together. He could run with Josh and if they did enough of it then it would still be a work out for him. It would be hard to explain how the skinny kid in the gym could lift weights far bigger than Mr. Universe who was pumping the largest iron dumbbells in the place.

"You definitely have toast duty.” Gris looked over at the coffee maker. "And maybe some more coffee? Or something else to drink?” Smiling, he wrapped his arms around Josh's neck, kissing him cheerfully. Gris leaned back and said. "I told you I was high maintenance.”

As Gris began to speculate, and then continued to do so while turning in Josh's arms, Josh growled at him, a low warning noise.

"Careful, or that omelet is going to have to wait," he said. "You're too tempting a meal."

In spite of his veiled threat Josh smiled gently and let Gris go so he could slip back into his sweats. Then he watched the items that were placed on the counter. Peering over Gris's shoulder when asked, he kissed Gris softly upon the cheek and reached past him to add some fresh baby spinach to the pile. Josh enjoyed green things in his eggs.

"I think that'll do," he said.

Gris turned around and touched his chest; Josh pulled Gris's hand away and brought it to his lips, kissing it tenderly.
"I like running," he corrected, "but I would like it much more with you along."

If he could focus on running, anyway, with Gris right there. Not only was Josh ridiculously and strongly attracted to Gris, but he found his company and sense of humor distracting too. He smiled more with Gris around; he even laughed.

"I'll enjoy having your company."

Josh was quickly relegated to toast and coffee but he didn't mind; Gris had displayed far greater aptitude in the kitchen than Josh on their previous date. Josh could follow a recipe fine but when it came to going off the cuff, he was pretty clueless. He was happy to let Gris take the reins here, and he hugged his partner back, returning his happy kiss.

"Toast, check. Coffee, check. Juice?"

Josh did have a few kitchen gadgets he liked. One of those was a juice extractor. Currently he had several items in the fruit drawer that would be tasty. He started the coffee, put the toast in the toaster so it was ready to be pushed down when the omelets were close to finished, and then pulled out two bananas, some strawberries, and some slices of fresh pineapple. Cutting them quickly he tossed them in the whirling juice extractor and then added a sprig of fresh spearmint for a nice, clean taste. Fresh herbs were a perfect addition to almost every juice, and in this case the tiny amount of mint really helped brighten up the citrus of the pineapple while not overpowering the strawberries and bananas.

He poured the finished juice into two glasses over a little bit of shaved ice and garnished them with a mint leaf. Then he handed one glass to Gris. He might not be a very inventive cook but he did do juice well, thanks to a very instructive user guide complete with recipes and suggestions for improvisation.

"I like you high maintenance," he said. "As they say, it isn't work if it's pleasurable. Besides," he added, sliding his muscular arms around Gris's waist, "seeing you happy makes me happy. So I'm really very selfish. I hope you can handle being made happy quite a bit, for my sake of course."

He didn't know if he would always make Gris happy but he was sure going to try. Each brilliant smile he was given was a gift. Josh loved them, and his goal was to obtain as many as possible in a day.

Gris grinned when Josh told him to be careful or he would be a meal before the omelet was made. It was tempting to take him up on that threat but he really was hungry. They had not exactly lounged around the night before or earlier this morning and now he had quite an appetite, for food and then more of Josh.

"Since we are neighbors...and we are both running anyway.” Gris smiled. "Then it makes good sense to run together. I enjoy spending time with you also so that's convenient.” He found the cutting board and then brought the items that needed to be chopped over to it and began cutting things up while they talked. "If we want a little more exercise then we can play chase.” He paused his cutting and looked at Josh thoughtfully. "Maybe there is a prize in it if you catch me...We'll have to settle on the details later.”

With a tiny smile, he said. "I promise there will not be any mace involved.”

Gris nodded his enthusiastic agreement with the juice idea. They could use some more fluids too. He couldn't imagine where all those were going.

Josh began making the juice while he finished the vegetables and found a frying pan for the omelets and then a couple of plates. He had to acknowledge that Josh's organizational skills were excellent. Everything definitely had its place and they all seemed to make sense. Perhaps this would change once Josh had lived here for a while but Gris didn't think so. His boyfriend, which was an almost surreal thought by itself, appeared to be very put together in everything he did.

He started the eggs and cast occasional glances in Josh's direction. There were several juices going together and a small amount of mint. Gris smiled when Josh added some shaved ice and topped each glass with a tiny mint leaf. The drinks were almost too pretty to touch and certainly more fancy than he was expecting. Gris looked at Josh and smiled. "You are hired. When we throw lavish parties together you are in charge of the drinks.” He wasn't sure they would ever throw lavish parties together or that Josh would want to be in charge of the drinks but it looked like he had an eye for the little details.

"Those look delicious.”

Adding the vegetables into the first omelet, Gris smiled when Josh's arms went around him. His partner explained that making him happy was a selfish cause. Gris laughed and leaned back against Josh for a moment. "I think I can manage to be happy....for your sake.” He tried to be serious but it was difficult. Josh just really made him happy without having to try very hard and it was difficult to be somber when he was in such a good mood.

"I am going to have to tell my friend Kiyo about you.” Gris said as he watched over his morning culinary project. "See, we were in a camping store and Kiyo was buying some things for his date which made him ask about my own dating. I had said that the right person hadn't shown up yet, fallen from the sky or magically appeared...” Gris turned a little and gave Josh a long look. "A guy in the shop there was also talking to us and that got this conversation going about looking for men where a lot of sky diving was done... hoping the right one would fall from the sky.”

Gris laughed. "Turns out he did but without a parachute.” He flipped the omelet over onto itself and then onto a plate. Picking that up, he handed it to Josh. "How very unprepared of you.” Of course he also remembered that Mr. Right was supposed to have his name tattooed on his forehead but Gris wouldn't hold Josh to that part, besides he could mark him as his own in much better ways.

Josh had to chuckle softly at Gris. "Well, getting a prize is good incentive for running. If it's the kind of prize I'm hoping for, anyway. Honestly catching you is reward enough."

He glanced at Gris as he moved away. How had he gotten this lucky? He'd enjoyed Gris's company from the get-go, and looks weren't at the top of his must-have list in a partner but he wasn't going to complain. There was something about Gris that Josh found utterly beautiful. He didn't know if Gris would appreciate that particular term. Handsome would work too. Not only were his features gorgeous but there was something about his demeanor... a sparkle in his sharp green eyes, the shining good health of his hair. Whatever caused it Josh adored it.

He was elected maker of drinks for any lavish parties they threw.
"Maybe you should taste it before you volunteer me," he said with a wry smile. "I would enjoy making drinks though. Must we have lavish parties often?"

He said it lightly but he was curious. Josh knew Gris was much more social than he was and he didn't mind giving parties, but he did want to know, as a guideline, exactly how often Gris wanted to entertain. Every month? Every weekend? Would there come a point when living with Josh became boring? Probably... it had certainly happened in the past. Josh wasn't a big partier and he was a terrible dancer. Suddenly he felt more than a bit worried.

He tried to banish those worries, though; there was no point in it. He couldn't predict the future and it was futile to try. He would simply pay attention to Gris and hope he continued to be honest about his needs so that Josh could make sure he never lacked. If that meant going out more often, Josh was fine with it.

"It's good of you to be so giving," Josh said when Gris promised to try to be happy for his sake. He brushed soft golden curls aside and kissed the back of Gris's neck.

"So who is this Kiyo? And what kind of name is that? I'd like to meet your friends some time."

His tone was simply curious; it wasn't said in an 'oh my God what a strange name' sort of way. Josh enjoyed learning about different cultures, and the name 'Kiyo' was definitely a new one for him.

Gris detailed the story about searching for the right man and smiled when Gris pointed out that he had fallen out of the sky.
"Don't worry. I've included 'parachute' on my list of items to carry with me."

He said it with a straight face, as with most of his jokes. Many people never understood when he was serious or not but Gris never seemed to confuse it.
"As for the skydiving, it won't be happening any time soon, unless you want me to attempt it so that I really can fall on you properly."

Josh knew about Gris's fear and he wouldn't dream of causing him worry; thus skydiving, he figured, was off the menu for himself as well.
"Anytime you feel the need to be fallen on, however, I think I should be up to the task."

Like, after breakfast maybe. He took their food and drinks to the dining room table as they were finished, then brought the coffee in a pot along with cream and sugar. When they were both seated Josh said,
"Thanks for breakfast. It smells wonderful."

Taking a bite, he gave a soft moan of pleasure.
"Tastes wonderful too. How did I get this lucky?"

The rain fell hard against the glass windows next to them. Nachton was lit up below as if it were night. Thunder rumbled occasionally, accompanied by a flash of lightning here and there. Inside, they were comfortable, warm, dry, and having a particularly delicious breakfast. Did the weekend get any better? Josh was prepared to submit that it did not.

"I am prepared to make it quite difficult...” Gris warned but secretly thought he would let Josh catch him. He had to make it look good so he would have to stay out front for a while before becoming 'winded' and slowing down enough to be caught. Perhaps one day they would both be Vyusher and they could run all out together but that was a step in their relationship that they had not yet approached.

He was cooking still when Josh asked how often they would be throwing lavish parties. Gris turned around and spiraled the spatula around in the air like a wand to emphasize his words. "Oh, once a week most certainly.” And then he couldn't keep from laughing. With a shrug, he gave a more honest answer. "Lavish? Maybe a few times a year. Christmas, Halloween, New Years...perhaps birthdays. That sort of thing. I think we might have smaller parties with a few friends here and there more often but I really don't expect those to be once a week either, maybe once a month?” He had a busy schedule and he was a werewolf besides so his time was limited and he wanted to spend most of that with Josh, quietly, just the two of them. Perhaps his friends would see less of him but most of his friends were werewolves in Nachton so they would see him at the fires and the full moon. It would be fine.

Josh seemed interested to meet his friend; that was good because he would like to introduce him to Kiyo and Evan. His companion expressed curiosity about Kiyo's name and he smiled. "It is Kiyoshi. Japanese but Kiyo himself is only part Japanese." They had not really discussed their origins much except in passing. Gris knew that Kiyo had also traveled a lot and he also did not seem to be happy at home. They had that in common; his friend had seemed worried that he might move away so he was even more eager to introduce him to Josh. Gris hoped that would settle any lingering worries.

Gris laughed at the idea that Josh was going to be carrying a parachute around with him from now on. "Don't forget to add an umbrella and face guard. Now that you're mine I don't want you falling anyone else or hitching a ride with strange men.” He gave his partner a brief kiss and a quick pinch on the butt to prove that his possessiveness was not entirely serious. Not completely anyway.

He smiled at the idea of skydiving for the sake of falling on him properly. Gris held out both of his hands and looked skyward, weaving back and forth in front of the stove as if to catch a falling Josh. "I hear it is pretty safe, with the parachute. If you wanted to jump then I would go with you. I would just wait for you on the ground.” He would be nervous until Josh landed safely but he would feel that way any time Josh got on a plane. In his head he knew they were really quite safe and he flew no problem, so long as he didn't look out the window. It was just a little worrisome until your loved one is safely on the ground once more.

"Maybe we can mix it up. Perhaps I can fall on you from time to time as well.” Gris smiled as they moved toward the table. He did like a little variety in such things. For the most part, aside from his earlier impatience, he had been content to let Josh set the pace and control the situation but he was not always like that; hopefully it was not always expected of him. If it was then they might have some conflict down the road but that would be something they could deal with later.

Right now everything was perfect. Gris smiled and picked up his juice as Josh declared the omelet wonderful. "I am glad you like it.” He took a slow sip of his drink and nodded his head. "Yes, definitely hired.” The fresh taste was light and sweet but not artificially so. It didn't linger and ruin the taste of the food. Instead it was the perfect companion to the more savory meal. "Can we start every morning like this?” It would be difficult with both of them in a hurry to get out the door but perhaps they could occasionally get up early and make something after a run and before a shower...though the thought of sharing a shower with Josh was distracting. He knew the real thing would be even more so; He might not make it to work on time ever again.

"So more movies and ...other things... and then perhaps we can stop and make something nice for an early dinner?” He could make something more elaborate with Josh's help in the kitchen. They could skip lunch, perhaps have a small snack to tide them over, especially if the afternoon became more active than sitting around on the sofa. "Then I think we should both get to bed early...” Gris smiled, all innocence except with the wickedly mischievous gleam in his eyes.

Sitting with Gris, chatting over breakfast, was nothing short of paradise. Josh imagined it might be good to have Mel there too... but on a day like this, actually, he was rather pleased it was just the two of them.

"I don't want you to fall from anywhere," Josh said with a brief frown. "Unless you should happen to trip and topple onto me; I suppose that would be all right. I'll catch you."

He found himself flushing slightly red with extreme pleasure when Gris said he wanted to start every morning this way.
"Does that mean you'll just stay here every night? I could get used to that. But some days I'd like to cook for you. It's not fancy, but I haven't killed anyone yet."

Gris's plan for the afternoon sounded perfectly vague yet tempting. Good mix, Josh mused.
"Movies and other things it is," he said. "Maybe I can show you the place again. If we can manage to pay attention this time."

Last night's tour had been - well, brief. He smiled at the remembrance of the trail of clothing they'd left. Breakfast was perfect and they had the dishes and pans cleaned up in short order, drying on the drip rack next to the sink.

Movies definitely happened. Other things most certainly happened. Early to bed happened as well, if it was to be assumed that they'd technically left bed to begin with. Josh reflected later on that he'd missed his work out that day, and yet he was still sore. Soreness, though, was a pleasant state when your partner gave ridiculously good massages. Which turned into more workouts... a vicious cycle. Terrible. Really.

He supposed he'd just have to learn to cope.
