Forgive us our trespasses(private)

Christian nodded to the priest as he passed through into the main hall of the church. He liked churches and always felt a peace in them. Once he stepped inside, especially in the older ones, there was a sense of being out of time and space. You could be anywhere in the world or no where and it did not matter. It was one of the few places he could relax though the current events did little to put his mind at ease.

Humans had died and though it was an unlikely possibility some of his clanmates could have met their end in the flames. It had not happened but it -could- have happened and that was enough to put him on edge.

Alfarinn mentioned on the way to the church that he and Thaddeus intended on buying the place and living there. This did not sit well either, how could they protect their elder if he was spending so much time away from the Towers? He knew the man was capable of taking care of himself and if he were just any other vampire Christian would not be concerned for his safety but Alfarinn was a bigger target than it seemed the blonde sometimes realized. Certainly the man understood that many of the Anantya and almost all of the Tacharan would not be opposed to one of the Elders of Evenhet going up in flames? They might even be persuaded to help. That did not even touch on the clanless that had many who wanted to see any of the established clans fall out of pure spite, so it seemed.

This Thaddeus was Anantya. What should he make of that? Other than his elder had completely lost all of his sanity. His empathy told him they had feelings for each other. That is when he could sense anything from Alfarinn and the man was not closed off like a blank slate. It did not take an empath to read his leader's expression, however, and the fact that the feeling was returned by the Anantya was the only thing that kept him from physically trying to shake some sense into the Norseman.

He turned to the two men and raised his hands palms up in question. Well?

Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn smiled at Thaddeus's 'quiet' statements about Palmer's hair problem. He looked over and did his best to appear serious and concerned. The two seemed to have a relationship of friendly banter which again made him wonder what it must have been like when they first met.

Before he could add anything in reply, Palmer 'explained' himself. Alfarinn felt the apology was going to come up short where Thaddeus was concerned. He felt a twinge of protectiveness himself seeing Thaddeus teased about his looks. He pushed down the neanderthal desire to fend off all attackers by recalling this man was Thaddeus's friend and he truly meant no harm.

[Hmm, I believe you're right. That must be the problem because you look breathtaking even smudged with soot.]

The mischievous side of him helpfully suggested that he could point at that he doubted a weave would stand up to rough bed sport but that response would likely have Thaddeus crawling under the pew in embarrassment. Not very helpful, Alfarinn. Not even very true, they were rarely so hard on each other as all that though perhaps it was that they were so connected and concerned for each other that they did not notice their excesses. [/i]

"There have been many distractions of late, fortunately Thaddeus always looks good."Â?

He smiled fondly at his companion and squeezed the hand he was holding a bit in a tiny embrace before turning to Crispin's back to topic remarks. The Security Chief's drive in the name of duty could be exhausting and Alfarinn was beginning to wish he could curl up in Thaddeus's lap much like Theo had done.

"Through cameras. We already have some small enough to be used by a bird."Â?

Cris would naturally assume Natt and his family. He was not certain how much Palmer knew of Thaddeus's abilities to know whether he would believe he was talking about Thaddeus or whether it simply sounded odd. If questioned on it, he was willing to explain his connection with crows in order to protect the privacy of his companion.

Thaddeus looked down and chuckled at Palmer’s accusation of a ‘weave’, then lifted his head and rolled his eyes in an exaggerated fashion. Alfarinn’s comments did rather take any sting out of his friend’s comment and had a way of making this all far too silly for him to dignify with more than a dismissive remark, made with his chin tilted up.

“You’ll never know.”

[Breathtaking? Perhaps between the two of us we can set a trend; it can’t be any stranger than the modern fashion I’ve seen thus far.]

He did frown in concern when Palmer mentioned calling home, feeling badly that he hadn’t so much as asked what his friend was doing in town. He’d honestly been so happy to see the huntsman and then a good deal had come up in a short amount of time, but even so it was quite rude of him not to inquire.

Not wanting to put Palmer on the spot, he continued to not ask, though he gave his friend a quizzical look before turning his attention to Christian.

“One of my fellow nightsmen knows a little about what’s going on.” Thinking to give Christian more complete information, he ticked off the names of everyone involved on his fingers. “Claire and Dani helped us after our confrontation with Lykaios. Morrigan knows some of what we’re investigating. You already know about anyone else.”

When put that way, the situation hardly sounded contained at all. Lovely.

He was, for a moment, amazed at how large the pool of people he trusted had become.

Alfarinn went on to explain their plan, notably leaving out any mention of searching specific apartments in more depth. Thaddeus agreed with his lover’s discretion in this matter. For one, Palmer’s reaction to searching an Elder’s apartment in particular was…somewhat unpredictable. And there was still the off chance that something else would come up and they wouldn’t end up needing to look there at all.

All right, that last was fairly unlikely.
Palmer 18 years ago
Palmer chortled at Thaddeus's retort, trying to keep from laughing outright in the middle of a church. God, but did the normally reserved nightsman just make a remark that was darn near scandalous for him? He put his hand to his heart and fell back against the pew.

"Alas! Thaddeus Grey, the cold hearted, would not spare even one silvery lock of hair for his dear and loyal friend..."Â? He was now chuckling too hard to keep up his dramatics and let the act go with a wave of his hand, deciding there had probably been enough silliness on his part for such a grave and serious meeting.

Listening to the list of people 'in the know' pushed aside his mirth to some degree. This was starting to look like a pretty crowded pool and they needed to work quickly; someone was inevitably going to blab.

He grinned at Alfarinn's explanation of their plan for the apartments; wasn't that just perfect for Thaddeus. His friend liked that side of things. Testing his own patience. Watching and learning everything he could. Combine that with modern surveillance technology and the blonde was probably in heaven even if he refused to admit it.

Thaddeus Grey, Nerd Extraordinaire. Growing one's hair like some kind of grunge star could not cover the inner geek. Maybe he'd even get up to date enough to send an email one of these days.

"That's cool."Â? He rubbed his lower lip absently. "I can get cleaned up and head over to the Manor tonight, think there's still time. Probably need a little more for the apartments though. When and where do you need a huntsman?"Â?
Christian Bern 18 years ago
Christian nodded in understanding about the birds and the use of the camera. They could get a good look through the windows with Alfarinn's crows.

"That would allow us to narrow down the search. What causes you to believe there is an apartment involved? You said an earlier sensing but was there something specific about this apartment? Would you know it if you saw it?"Â?

He frowned at the added list of names though Dani's knowledge of the matter did not surprise him nor did he think of her has untrustworthy, in fact, he would not consider her a suspect. Thaddeus mentioned that she helped them clean up after Lykaios was dead which seemed to indicate she did not know about the couple before hand? It hardly mattered unless there was some secret centuries old blood feud between her ancestors and the former Elder of the Night. Nor was a familiar likely to do anything against the vampire they had ties with. She and Alfarinn were like family. Christian smiled inwardly at the two of them. The young woman seemed to be so good for the elder and she worried about him and Alfarinn adored her. He would suspect centuries old friendships before he turned to accusing a familiar. The very idea was so outrageous that it wasn't worth considering. There were better motives and leads anyway. He did not know this Claire but Morrigan was definitely a familiar name. Would she want her own clansman and fellow elder dead? Rumors said she did not get along with the current Elder of the Night so anything was possible.

Turning at Palmer's question, he asked one of his own.

"Are you passable at intrigue?"Â?
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn smiled and raised an eyebrow at his companion's retort, admiring Thaddeus's ability to take such things in stride.

[Hmm perhaps but I don't think it would work for just anyone. Sort of like spandex pants. Just because you can wear it doesn't mean you should.]

He was sure that things were sounding less under control by the minute though he thought they had done remarkably well under the circumstances. Either one of them could have demanded to go to their entire clan on the matter, which no doubt sounded wise enough to either of the men sitting in front of them but with differing opinions on which one. They trusted each other and had cooperated from the beginning. Quite frankly, he was still just very happy that they both survived to be sitting here.

He listened to the plans being made wondering if Palmer was just up to visit Thaddeus or if there was something he was supposed to be doing in Nachton.

"We aren't taking you away from anything important and/or time sensitive are we?"Â?

Narrowing his eyes at Cris, Alfarinn decided it was best to just wait and see what the Security chief had in mind before commenting. He felt things were winding down towards everyone having a direction but he figured Thaddeus would want to talk to Palmer before they headed home.

[Would you like me to ride with the Evenhet back to Towers so you can talk to your friend alone? We can meet back at the apartment. I figure you have some catching up to do and though he seems like a nice guy he might not want the boyfriend from the wrong side of the clans around.]

He'd rather go straight home with Thaddeus, wash all the smoke off and climb into bed but he could do his best to try and think of someone else while surreptitiously looking pitiful when he thought only his companion was looking. Alfarinn decided he should behave and sat up straighter, there was no cause to make things more difficult for Thaddeus, who likely wanted to go home just as badly.
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus resisted the urge to throw something at Palmer’s hammed up antics, grinning in amusement, but he straightened up about the same time his friend did and they got serious again. The huntsman seemed quite keen to help and that was comforting to see.

Christian, meanwhile, had some perfectly reasonable questions and he did his best to explain.

“We got a reasonably clear view out the window of the apartment and a few specific items in the room, though it’s quite possible those things were changed or moved. Even so, with the right combination of circumstances and facts we could find what we need this way.”

And then there was Sorin’s apartment in particular, and goodness knew he wished he could get that out of his head.

Apparently Christian had an idea for Palmer, and he bit down on his lower lip to keep from jumping in with his friend’s better qualities in that area. Palmer could speak for himself just fine and he would likely only embarrass him by going on.

Fortunately trying not to smirk at the mention of spandex kept him occupied. That was certainly an unfortunate trend in fashion for many. On the other hand…Alfarinn in spandex…

[Honestly. Now I’m thinking about you in spandex pants.]

Spandex pants. Tight fabric stretched over well shaped thighs and Thaddeus didn’t dare think further than that because really, thinking about how Alfarinn’s ass would look in spandex pants really would serve to be completely unproductive. He got the impression his lover had been entirely innocent with that off handed remark, continuing the conversation seamlessly.

He wasn’t sure Palmer would give much of a helpful reply at the moment but thought it was good of Alfarinn to ask. They really would have to catch up soon. Alfarinn gave them a fine opportunity to do so, and as much as he would have liked to just go directly home to a warm shower and their bed, he thought it was a good suggestion.

[That would be fine; there are some things about all of this that would be better said between the two of us. Not that I take issue with you telling Christian whatever you think is appropriate; I just think it would be easier for Palmer to hear it from me and not having to worry about being on his best behavior.]

Alright, so it would be easier for him as well, but he sincerely was thinking of Palmer too.
Palmer 18 years ago
Palmer smirked a little at Christian's query, though he refrained from making smart assed remarks about being quite intriguing indeed.

"I don't think I'd embarrass myself. What did you have in mind?"Â?

Alfarinn graciously asked about time commitments and Palmer took the Elder's question as well intended if slightly amusing. That was something Thaddeus and his boyfriend had in common, he supposed. 'Think you could give me a hand off the edge of this cliff? If you're not too busy, that is.'

Palmer thought he had some pretty cool friends.

"Well, I certainly thought it was important but I suppose things like this tend to change one's perspective, don't they?"Â? He chuckled lightly. "Really, it's fine, don't trouble yourself. I just came to bring something home."Â?

Hearing more information about the apartment expedition led him to believe this was more of a long shot than Thaddeus and Alfarinn were letting on. For now he would assume that they knew more than he did; after all, it was there sensing that brought them to that point and he figured that was pretty abstract. Bottom line was that they had sensed something that told them the next place to go. Not really his area; he'd just make damn sure they didn't come to any harm.
Christian Bern 18 years ago
Thaddeus's explanation helped clear up matters on why they were chasing down apartments near the House of Pain. It was not much of a lead for someone without their talents but if the psychometrists could get into the apartment, assuming it was found, they might be able to come up with more conclusive evidence to support that it belonged to the accomplice.

If they could pin point the right apartment but -not- who it belonged to then he and Palmer could take care of more mundane things like placing cameras and staking it out from a nearby residence. They would have to rely on cameras during the day but they could physically watch the place at night and since they were most likely dealing with another vampire anyway very little was bound to happen during the day.

"Thank you. That makes more sense now."Â?

Christian took Palmer's answer as the yes that it was intended to be. The man seemed plenty confident and was likely capable as well. His manner was easy going and friendly but from the banter between himself and Thaddeus it seemed that his ego was not as large as some of his jokes made it out to be; which meant he was not likely to be the kind of person who had an over inflated sense of his own abilities. If he said he could handle something then Christian would trust that he could. Thaddeus was Order of the Night, dealers in intrigue, and he had raised no sound of objection in the fear that his friend was in over his head either so that was a good sign as well. The task was not very difficult at any rate but it was one that the rest of them could not do.

" I was merely thinking about the checking up on the staff that was mentioned earlier but also the other Anantya involved and wondered if you could casually check around there as well. I will do some looking over the Evenhet suspects and we can see if we come up with anything."Â?

For obvious reasons they were better suited to the task than the two most closely involved. He wondered if they would want help searching the apartments but hopefully the couple would let them know if their preliminary efforts resulted in anything and a more thorough job was going to be planned. Alfarinn might not want his methods on open display and with the birds they were likely safe enough to not need a few body guards hanging about to watch. Tempting as it was to follow them both every second.
Alfarinn 18 years ago
Alfarinn eyed Thaddeus sideways with a raise of an eyebrow at the mention of him wearing spandex. That was an unexpected turn to the mental conversation and he wondered if his companion's mind had been wandering towards being home alone just as his had been.

[I don't believe I have any, Beloved, but if you'd enjoy it then I'll see what I can do about getting some. So while we're imagining things may I suggest the chaps we saw during the last trip to the House of Pain for our next venture to that location? ]

He mentally pictured one of the people from the crowd at the club wearing a pair of tight leather chaps and nothing more, leaving the back view rather bare. Alfarinn, of course had only thought to tease Thaddeus, but once thought of he could not help but imagine his companion in such 'clothing' . Doubtful they'd be wearing either things in public but he wouldn't complain about his vivid imagination any time soon.

Smirking at his companion before looking up, he turned back to listening to Crispin and what he had in mind for Palmer. At least he was not going to get Thaddeus's friend in too much trouble. Much as the Security Chief for Evenhet tried to keep his clan members safe, he was sometimes hard on his team, not impossibly so, but he could push a person to their limits. Checking out the clans was a safer option than he expected and they might turn something up. There was no reason for the accomplice to know Palmer or want him dead so hopefully he could help uncover their identity safely.

Thaddeus took him up on the offer of riding back home separately and Alfarinn did his best not to pout. Really, he offered and it was the best and most polite thing they could do. Now would be a good time to remember his actual age and not what he looked like but it was tough after such an eventful night. He wondered if they would have any normal ones, not hurried or frantic and would eventually feel less need for each other's company. He hoped not, everything wrong in his night seemed to be washed away the moment the two of them were alone and home. It was something he hoped never changed even if it made him feel like a needy four year old from time to time.

[Certainly, We seemed to have swept him in up in our intrigue. I hope he truly doesn't mind. He really cares a lot about you though. Which is not at all surprising to me.]

Alfarinn stood up and moved around to the pew where Theo was resting.

"Shall we call this meeting adjourned ?"Â?

Kneeling down next to her, he spoke quietly.

"Theo, we're ready to leave."Â?
Thaddeus Grey 18 years ago
Thaddeus felt the heat rise to his cheeks at his lover’s reply, wishing he could bury his face in Alfarinn’s cool neck and hide there for just a moment. It was rather difficult to look innocent when one was as red as a beet. He supposed turnabout was fair play but then he didn’t have the curtain of hair and the subterfuge in his favor.

[I’m just going to think pure thoughts from here on out.]

He imagined that would last all of two minutes but it was worth a try.

He looked over at Palmer with eyebrows raised, trying to look casual at Christian’s suggestion. He thought his friend would do just fine; Palmer was more likely to err on the side of getting caught up in conversation and forgetting he was supposed to be fact finding than giving anything away. That seemed safe enough in this situation. He’d have to ask about Palmer’s business once they were alone; there was the off chance he might be able to help his friend in return, however unequally in proportion.

Smiling a little at Alfarinn’s remark, he looked down and sent:

[I’d do the same for him.]

Standing with Alfarinn, he let the Evenhets get sorted out and approached Palmer.

“Let’s go get your car.” He tilted his head to one side. “I hope you got renter’s insurance.”
Palmer 18 years ago
Palmer gave Christian a solid nod, thinking it was a good idea to use insiders on what was possibly an inside job. Better all around, really, and he thought he could handle himself.

"Absolutely."Â? He beamed a smile and turned to Thaddeus, thinking to see what he thought of that plan.

Was Thaddeus blushing? Oh he -was-! And where were Alfarinn's hands? He could see one...why that rogue! The Evenhet stood up perfectly innocently though, going over to Christian and Theodosia as their gathering was called to a close. Thaddeus, meanwhile, seemed to have recovered, and he stood to meet his friend halfway, chuckling at the mention of insurance.

"Do you drive yet? Because I have this mental image of you reading the entire manual and all the traffic laws and wearing a helmet with protective eyewear..."Â?

He was a little surprised that, by all indications, the clans seemed to be going their separate ways. He'd figured Alfarinn and Thaddeus would go off together but...well, with Thaddeus who knew.

"It was a pleasure meeting you all, even under the circumstances."Â? He chuckled softly. "Nachton sure has a way of making a guy feel welcome."Â?
Theodosia 18 years ago
Theo gave the room a sleepy blink and considered closing her eyes again when Alfarinn told her it was time to go, but eventually decided, with Paul’s help, that playing possum wasn’t going to work. Oh well; at least she’d had a nice nap in a church even if she couldn’t stay there.

Pushing herself up, she gave a little wave to Palmer and Thaddeus, who she offhandedly noticed was bashful about something or other, then gave one eye a little rub as she looked back to Christian and Alfarinn, groggily standing up to follow them out with a delicate yawn.
