Did That Seem Odd To You? (Attn: Tavi, Kiyo, Evan)

He had picked up a very early morning, very last minute charter request and so had been in Washington DC when Tavi had contacted him. He'd not wanted to take that flight, not after seeing Thérèse's reaction to Evan the other night, but to be blunt, he needed the money. That and his cousin had made it clear that she didn't want him near her for a while. Her reaction still puzzled him, unsettled him and he did very much hope Tavi could shed some light on things. If she couldn't he was going back to ground to work things out himself. He had sources, not as many here as in Europe but he did have his ways.

They'd arranged to meet upstairs at Terminus. Fortunately the charter had wanted to leave earlier than planed and they were able to update the flight plan on both sides and get clearance and didn't get trapped by weather. Once home he'd made sure the common area was presentable, not that either he or Evan or even Kiyoshi who stayed over now and then, were terribly sloppy. It might be business but as he was welcoming the Alpha's daughter to his home, he prepared a traditional mint tea. It wouldn't be poured until Tavi arrived but the smell of the strong mint tea, which he added some sheeba leaves to, as well as glasses with fresh mint leaves too was ready.

While he had a feeling Tavi would be prompt he had a few minutes and they found him sticking a nose in a book. It was for his forensic psychology class. They were working on intelligence testing currently. Not his favorite subject but seeing some practical applications it was rather fascinating.

Guillaume said he was not angry at Evan and that was a relief. She did not want this situation with Therese to tear apart their friendship. No doubt Guillaume's cousin was going to have more than a word or two to say to him about his partnership with a vampire...if she hadn't done so already. That was likely to cause more stress for Guillaume.

Tavi supposed Therese had a good reason not to trust vampires. However, she suspected that Guillaume and Evan had been friends long enough for the vampire to have proved himself trustworthy. She doubted any werewolf would have gone into business with one of his kind if they hadn't.

She smiled at Guillaume's misunderstanding of what Evan had said and then turned around to grin at the vampire. "That's right. I'm more attractive than you. So you'll just have to get your hugs elsewhere. Sorry Evan." Tavi squeezed Guillaume again and then leaned over and hugged the vampire as well. "Okay, maybe there were plenty of hugs to go around."

Looking slyly at her fellow werewolf, she spoke to Evan. "If you are still wanting to get a hug from Guillaume you might have to chase him down and hug him yourself." Tavi patted them both on the legs and then looked over at Kiyoshi. "If he does then this should be fun to watch. Its times like these that makes me wish I were capable of eating popcorn."

Evan said he would look into the matter and see if he could provide them with some useful information. She hoped he wouldn't get in trouble for doing something on their behalf. Tavi nodded to him and then gave him another hug in thanks. "Anything would be a help. We're compiling video references for the likely suspects. I could bring them over. If you could even say if any of them were vampires then that would be something useful." Of course that didn't prove that the man was guilty but it seemed likely. There were only going to be a handful of people meeting the vampire's description, coming more than once to the Arch and only showing up at night. It was unlikely that more than one of the people in their list would be a vampire.

It was only a matter of time before they caught the man anyway, a confirmation of one of their suspects would just speed up the process.
"You don't even have to say who they are, if you don't want to...or help identify them at all, obviously." He might not want to even point out the person on tape. That small act might still seem like a betrayal.

Of course...maybe they could show Therese the tapes and have several people well versed in reading physical features watching her for small signs of stress. The vampire might have told her not to tell anyone who he was but she, and therefore he, can't control her subconscious and automatic expressions such as heartbeat, breathing, pupil dilation. She figured Therese would show signs of stress when shown the right profile, whether she wanted to or not. Tavi would have to talk to Antoine about it.

"Actually, nevermind Evan, no need to identify anyone. I think I have another way that might work."

Kiyo couldn't ignore the tension in the room but Tavi's actions helped. Evan glanced down briefly at Kiyo, too, and he could only hope his silent and subtle touch had had a positive effect. He noted, however, that no one had answered Evan's question. He didn't think it was because the question was taboo so much as because there were other concerns that were foremost on Tavi's and Guillaume's minds. He looked up at Evan and spoke softly.

"The Sarkis is the title for our leader. He has a female counterpart, and she's called the Savia."

For a moment he'd been tempted to let Evan know the Sarkis is that big tent with the funny clowns and all the animals, but even Kiyo knew when it was a good time for humor and when the time and place were simply inappropriate. In this case, he wasn't sure Guillaume would appreciate his making light of a situation that involved his cousin and was clearly somewhat volatile, so he kept the thought to himself and gently ran his fingers along the depression behind Evan's ankle, toward his heel. He desperately wanted to climb up onto the couch and curl up beside Evan, wrap his arms around his partner's waist and hug him tightly, but even in the company of these two they both called friends he knew he couldn't. It made him sad when Tavi reached over to hug Evan and he couldn't.

He ceased his light stroking of Evan's foot when Tavi looked over at him, just in case some minute movement gave him away. His hand was hidden behind both his legs and Evan's, but he didn't want to chance it. Instead he smiled softly at her and made a face, shaking his head. He didn't want popcorn at all.

"Popcorn shrimp," he amended. "That'll do. We need to take bets, too."

He knew his kind were fast, but could a running werewolf outpace a diving magpie? He'd seen Evan fly; he suspected he was capable of catching and possibly tackling Guillaume in wolf form.

"It could potentially be the world's most interesting hug."

As Tavi's attention turned away from Evan and from himself, Kiyo resumed his soft touch again. He wanted the contact. It couldn't be easy for Evan, having to face the fact that someone he might know, might like, was hurting the people he'd spent so long trying to help. Nor could it be easy for Guillaume, whose cousin was obviously the one being hurt, but Kiyo did not have the same bond with Guillaume that he had with Evan obviously, so his hand remained where it was.

Tavi seemed to think of something though, that made her dismiss Evan's help entirely. Kiyo glanced up at Evan, curious to see if the vampire would insist upon offering it or if he would take the 'out' that Tavi seemed to be giving him. He wished he could have come up with something helpful, but he knew his presence here was based solely upon the fact that he just happened to now be living here rather than any useful insight he could provide. He should have left this to them, really, but he couldn't force himself to leave the room. He stayed right where he was, figuring if nothing else he could intervene if things grew tense again.

"I meant ME getting a hug." Evan sighed at his room mate. "From you." He shook his head and rolled his eyes. Of course Tavi took the misunderstanding well...and then he got a hug anyway. "You're right. I wouldn't turn down one of her hugs either."

Tavi suggested a way for him to get that hug from his room mate. However, it appeared that her plan was for him to chase Guillaume down in order to do it. Evan shrugged at Tavi.
"Don't get out the popcorn just yet. I'm not sure its worth going through that much effort." He smiled at her. "Maybe I'll just wait until he's not paying attention some day and stealth hug him when he least expects it. Saves me a work out." It might not save him a punch to the face but if he was feeling particularly daring then he might be willing to risk it.

Tavi seemed lost in her own thoughts. She asked him if he could look at the video footage that her people had compiled and identify who was a vampire. He wasn't sure he wanted to do that. Evan did not immediately give her an answer and then she said it wouldn't be necessary.

"I will see what I can find out." Evan said again. He would decide what his part in this situation would and he wouldn't be rushed.

Kiyoshi answered his question. So the Sarkis was their leader and Tavi was his daughter. Evan raised his eyebrows at Kiyo. Therese may or may not be dating the leader of the Vyusher R'asa and she was definitely being controlled by a vampire. That did not make the story any better. If Amir knew that part of it then he might not want to give up his control over her.

Well there were other methods of dealing with command. He did know someone much older than Amir with the ability and that person might be willing to help. Evan would just have to find him. That wasn't impossible either. So if his clan mate didn't play nice then he could try to find another way to release Therese.

Of course if the werewolves thought Amir was a monster he wondered what that made Mahesh.

Evan smiled at Tavi, leaning over to give her another quick hug. "We'll find a way to help her."

He stood up, moving carefully to give Kiyoshi time to remove the comforting fingers from his ankle. Putting his hands on his hips, Evan surveyed the room. "But since I don't have time to do anything about it tonight, I am going to go back to my slacking on World of Warcraft." Evan headed toward his rooms. "You coming, Kiyo? We would be lost without our favorite tank but if you want to stay then I will let the guild know." Or he would slack off and play an alt until his partner was finished talking to his pack mates and then they could find something to do together....which may or may not be WoW.

"Really Evan, all these years... I had no idea you only wanted to hug me. I'm touched. We'll discuss it the next time one of us is an idiot."

Navid cringed a little bit at Kiyo's explanation of Sarkis. What must Evan think? The man was bright enough to put two and two together and realize his cousin was involved with the Alpha. Did Evan understand how dangerous a position this was for them, to have Thérèse who was so close to the Alpha under an enemy's control? Or did he think of Thérèse and possibly himself as power hungry and manipulative? As his friend agreed to help them Guillaume assumed it wasn't the latter. His own concerns about Thérèse's relationship were still obviously coloring his judgment.

The popcorn discussion made him shake his head, slightly amused. Navid was slightly surprised to realize he didn't mind Kiyoshi having been present for all of this. He had become quite used to the little wolf's presence and rather liked him. it was a bit of a tentative friendship perhaps but ... At any rate Guillaume hoped that Kiyo would understand Thérèse's reactions a bit better now and not be quite as offended by what had happened.

Even though the promise had been made to Tavi Navid took comfort from it. He didn't doubt his business partner's word. This could be fixed, or at least undone. Spirits only knew what was actually broken. For all they knew they could break the commands on Thérèse and break her in the process.

"Enjoy your slacking, kill something entertaining for me."

While he did play now and then Navid was hardly what most would consider as a serious gamer. He knew what he was doing and played when the spirit it moved him but had trouble devoting too much time to any game. He wasn't aware that Kiyo had started to play that much, not that it mattered.

He waited for Evan to leave and for Kiyo to decide if he was staying or going before he turned back to Tavi.

"What is your other idea? And does your father know we are doing this? There are clearly political ramifications if we're not careful."

Oh there was the potential for hostilities between the Pack and whatever vampire(s) were holding Thérèse as it was and apparently the mulo had started it. But if they weren't at least somewhat delicate in their handling this could blow up in their faces. It could escalate between what Navid saw as a small almost personal issue into something much larger and as much as he was willing to risk that for his cousin she would not be happy with him risking the Pack for her.
Kiyoshi Salinas 12 years ago
Kiyo moved his hand away from Evan's foot and rested it back on the floor, leaning on it casually as if he'd been doing so all along. Evan dismissed himself from the conversation, giving Kiyoshi the perfect opportunity to follow along. He tried not to appear too eager.

"I'll be in in a second," he said to Evan. He wanted to say goodnight to Tavi, of course.

Turning to the other two he shrugged, smiling softly.
"I need to go get beat up," he said. "He's just kidding about the favorite thing though."

Kiyo assumed Evan was, of course. He doubted anyone in the guild really knew who he was. He didn't talk in guild chat and although Evan had showed him how to use the voice chat as well Kiyo rarely uttered a word, letting Evan do most of the talking for them both, since the people they played with were aware that they were roommates, at least. Kiyo wasn't sure what Greer thought, but given their first meeting he suspected his Packmate might know otherwise. That made him nervous but so far, Greer had never said anything about it.

Kiyo stood and moved over to Tavi, leaning down so he could hug her tightly.
"I'm glad I got to see you, even if it wasn't the best of circumstances."

He liked Vaughn Emiliano's daughter. A lot. She was pretty much his first actual friend and he always felt comfortable around her, or as comfortable as he'd ever been with a wolf who was clearly superior to him. She didn't make a big deal out of it. There were different kinds of alphas. Some, like Luis, had to constantly rub it in and assert it. But others, like Tavi, apparently, just let it happen. Kiyo felt safe with her... not like he was always about to be attacked.

Speaking of safe, though, the one person he knew who had never ever made him feel anything but loved had just left the room and it was like the lights had all gone out. So Kiyo smiled at Tavi, squeezed her again, and said,
"I'll see you soon."

He nodded at Guillaume's instruction to kill something interesting. Living in the same place as his Packmate wasn't so bad... with prolonged exposure (and a lot of intervention from Evan) he and Guillaume were sort of starting to figure each other out.

Turning toward Evan's end of the building Kiyo padded softly in that direction, bare feet making little noise on the floor. He wasn't sure they'd actually return to gaming tonight. Evan did love to play but he never neglected to attend to Kiyo when they were together, and Kiyo suspected some physical affection might go a long way for both of them right now. With a last wave to Tavi and Guillaume he slipped inside the doorway to Evan's rooms and went quietly to his partner, happy to be able to supply all the hugging necessary for comfort.

Tavi smiled at Evan as he got up and said that he would try to help sort things out. He was a good guy, even with being a vampire. It had always made her wonder if there were more like Evan. If so then perhaps at some future time they could all get along.

She hugged Kiyoshi who said he was going to go play also. Tavi nodded to him about the seeing him again soon. It was amusing that they both gamed together. There was just something funny about a vampire and a werewolf playing fantasy games; where they human in those games? That would be an interesting fantasy. She always wondered what being human would be like. However, Tavi could never sit still long enough to play. Maybe later when they had roleplay games that you could run, jump and actually fight in...then she would enjoy playing. Until then she would stick to real world activities.

Standing up, she said. "I have to go also." Tavi walked to the door and put her hand on the knob. She answered Guillaume's questions first though. "I think we could find out which one is the vampire fairly quickly. We'll just show all the candidates to Therese. She might not be able to verbally tell us which one is the right one but I suspect her involuntary functions would give it away." Tavi would take the idea to Antoine and her dad and see what they had to say. Maybe they wouldn't want to subject Therese to more trauma but she doubted they would have that attitude. Allowing the vampire to continue controlling her was a much larger trauma. Her father would see that, no matter how tenderly he felt for Therese.

"My father is the one who asked me to help Antoine. He just didn't originally give me all the details. When Therese freaked out the other night he realized he couldn't keep it a secret much longer. He would like to have as little of R'asa know as possible. Many people aren't happy with Therese as it is. If they knew she were controlled by a vampire and put the Sarkis at risk..." Tavi doubted she needed to explain the rest to Guillaume. She doubted Therese would survive in Nachton very long. It didn't matter that it wasn't her fault or that she couldn't do anything to stop it. "Those of us who know need to find this vampire fast and kill him. Not just for Therese but for the safety of all of us. "

She shrugged. "As for the ramifications with the undead...I don't know. There is no doubt that this one needs to die. Hopefully it can be done quietly so that we cannot be held accountable for it. If they wish to start a war over it...so be it."

In the back of his mind Guillaume didn't think Evan was kidding about the favorite. But he was to distracted by his own problems and his cousin's to really think that through.

"Make sure the healers are good to you."

He'd have to pressure Kiyoshi into take a day or half a day off to go and spend some time with Tavi. He had inadvertently ruined two attempts at them hanging out together.

Nodding as Tavi stood to leave, the idea seemed sound. He wished that they knew more about this 'gift' of the mulo and about what Thérèse had been commanded to do or not do. It was possible that even showing her images of this creature wouldn't help. But they might as well try as not.

It was a rather grim picture she painted, but it wasn't unrealistic. Even after they resolved this he would stay, watch her, guard her if necessary. It was some what unlikely that this would all slide completely under the radar.

"I hope it doesn't come to that. I am at your disposal, tell your father the same."

After all, he already knew the story and was certainly not going to throw his only family to the wolves, as it were.

Alone again Navid couldn't give his attention back to his studies. He cleaned up the tea and then vanished into the night. He needed a run.
