Hair Color: Bright red
Length and Style: Straight. Very long when turned but now it is cut to brush the back of his neck. The sides are slightly longer than the back, framing his face to his jaw. Usually worn loose, sides tucked behind his ears.

Skin Color: Fair but not abnormally pale, some freckles on his arms and across the bridge of his nose and cheek bones.

Description (if an NPC) or name of your creator/gifter(if a PC): Henri Durand, an Evenhet vampire from France who was done a good turn by Rowan. In the process Rowan got himself in trouble. Henri rescued Rowan and in order to save him, turned him. Henri currently lives in France.


Personal Questions

1. Describe your character's personality: Rowan is generally an easygoing person who comes across as fairly carefree and laid back. He doesn't like to argue although if he does he expects to win. He prefers to wage his wars with words and turns of phrase. He's usually friendly and open; life is too long to spend energy holding grudges and carrying chips on your shoulder. He doesn't like to be pushed and isn't a pushover, but strives to keep his composure in most any situation. He would far rather expend energy on laughing and loving, than arguing and fighting.
2. Describe how your character would appear to a stranger (I.E. typical dress, way they carry themselves etc.): Rowan appears to be a normal, healthy adult male of Irish descent. He dresses sort of alternative-grunge. Torn jeans, t-shirts, sometimes with an untucked button-down over them. However, he avoids the dangling chains fad. Likes accessories; wristbands, bracelets, necklace or choker, etc. Has multiple ear piercings; six in the left ear, three in the right. Wears a variety of studs, hoops, barbels in them. None of them dangle and/or clink together. Also has a nose piercing on the right side. All were done pre-turning. He has a fleur de lis tattooed onto the back of his left shoulder, covering an oddly-shaped burn that might or might not be a branded fleur de lis. The burn is not clearly etched into his skin. If it was made intentionally, it was not done with conviction.
Physically Rowan looks like an Irishman. He has a heart-shaped face, a long straight nose, and a generous mouth clearly meant for smiling, which he does often. There are laugh lines around his eyes. The bone structure of his face is surprisingly fine; his chin and jaw are somewhat narrow. He is fairly solidly built although he's not enormous. His height looks very natural on him and he carries himself confidently without being imposing.
3.What does your character like? Socializing, meeting people, writing and reading, children.
4. Dislike? Bullying, ostracism, prejudice, controversy, bigotry. Especially cannot tolerate child abuse. He's not exactly a champion for rights but Rowan prefers to live and let live.

6. What are your fears?


His past - Rowan has no idea where he came from, but the mark on his shoulder clearly states that he was up to no good at some point in the past. Rowan doesn't know anything about his life as a human and fears the knowledge of what he may have been. He enjoys his life and does not want to know the details of what was. He avoids the area in which he was found and turned, and will shy away from people he doesn't know who claim to know him.



Fears fire - Rowan isn't sure if this fear stems from living on a pirate ship, or from before he was turned but he dislikes open flames. He won't freak out if a candle is lit or there's a fire in the fireplace, but he certainly won't seek them out himself and he won't be the guy playing with matches or doodling around with a lighter. And he's sure not manning the grill at the neighborhood barbeque.



Fears the sound of jangling metal - Yet another fear from his past perhaps? Rowan fears the sound of metal upon metal. Not swords clashing or a hammer on a metal nail, but things such as rattling chains, a handful of coins, keys on a keychain. Hearing these sounds repeatedly won't necessarily send him into a panic but will certainly send his comfort level into the crapper. He will try to get away from it or stop it.


What is your character's strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths-

Patience - Rowan can be incredibly patient, particularly with children. He enjoys the company of people and is willing to be pushed to his limits in any situation before snapping, if that happens.


Trustworthy - Rowan's openness and friendliness often leads people to confide in him. He tends to be easy to talk to and he likes that people feel comfortable around him. When entrusted with a confidence, Rowan is, indeed, silent as the grave. He will not repeat it even to the extent of angering someone he cares for.


Optimistic - Rowan tries to see the good side of every situation. He is cheerful upon waking, faces each day with enthusiasm, and tries to make light of bad situations.


Weaknesses-
Avoids Uncomfortable Situations - Rowan doesn't enjoy conflict. He's not afraid of it but he prefers humor to angst. He will often try to laugh off problems and won't discuss controversial issues unless pinned down and forced to do so.


Vanity - Rowan is a pretty charismatic and attractive guy. He may dress down, but he dresses down carefully. He will spend as much time as he needs to on his appearance and may be late to appointments or dates, etc, because he has to look -just right-.


Enjoys attention - Rowan likes to be the center of attention and is comfortable in the spotlight. He will cultivate interest from any angle and very much loves to flirt and play courtship games. He doesn't necessarily follow through on those but he craves the attention of attraction.

There is a partial burn, possibly a brand, on his left shoulder that might or might not have been a fleur de lis. There is a tattoo of an actual fleur de lis superimposed on it.

Rowan has no personal history from before his turning. He doesn't know why he was in France but it seems likely that he was traveling through there. His creator Henri didn't know him either but has related events to Rowan as he can remember them. Henri had drawn attention to himself with a lucky streak of gambling at a local pub. Before he could leave with his winnings he was pegged as a cheater. Rowan, who was present, clearly didn't believe the accusations. He tried to refocus the crowd's attention but was unsuccessful. When it looked ugly for Henri, Rowan opted for a more abrupt method of rescue and made himself a target by blatantly walking up to Henri and kissing him (not necessarily a reflection of sexual preference - it just seemed like a great distraction). The crowd immediately turned on Rowan, forgetting Henri momentarily, which was long enough for him to evade them. As they dragged Rowan from the pub they beat him relentlessly and he was unable to free himself. Before they could finish the job Henri managed to repay Rowan's kindness by rescuing him in return. However, Rowan had been mortally wounded and Henri turned him instead.


Upon waking, Rowan could remember nothing about himself. Henri was of no help and they could find no one who knew Rowan. It was Henri who gave him his new name, Ruan, in honor of his long red hair. Rowan determined from the few possessions he had on him that he was not a man of any particular importance. Discovering the tattoo/brand upon his shoulder, he became very afraid that he might be a wanted criminal. He fled France with Henri, who had begun teaching him about his new life.


Becoming friends, Henri and Rowan went to Ireland to try to discover anything about Rowan's past but they were unsuccessful. There was no information to go on. So, after remaining with Henri for several years Rowan finally set out on his own. He learned a variety of trades and professions, trying on many different hats, as it were.


Over the years he grew more and more reluctant to discover his past. It bothered him so much that he had nightmares about it. Rowan could not come to terms with the idea that he might be a wanted criminal. He didn't think he could have been such a terrible person in life. He realized he didn't want to learn.


It was a flaw that remains with him today. Rowan turned his face to the future and kept it looking that way. He throws himself into living here and now and refuses to dwell on the past. When asked about his past, Rowan began to avoid the issue by lying about it. His naturally active imagination came up with fantastic stories which he would tell with a shrug and smile, readily acknowledging that they may not necessarily be true. Eventually the need to make up stories became a deeply ingrained habit.


At some point in the 1800s Rowan became interested in medicine. He began to study and has continued to keep that knowledge up to date. He prefers to work with children as he finds their imaginations and curious, open minds to be very similar to his. He finds that work rewarding and interesting.


Rowan has come to Nachton by way of Canada. He travels often and likes to experience different places. From Canada he moved south through the American midwest which was far too quiet. Nachton promises to be much livelier and more entertaining.
