Once Bitten... (attn Alex)

Eiryk kept looking at one of the clocks in his place and glowering at them. Treacherous bastards, each and every one of them had failed to wake him up and now he was cutting it close. OK, not close. He was going to be late, there was just nothing for it. Alex would be here any second Eiryk realized as he pulled on a pair of tight leather pants, and he should have been gone and come back by now.

He'd planned an ultra quick trip to The House of Pain tonight, he hadn't eaten in a while and, well he was hungry. Believe it or not interior designers did have emergencies and two of his employees had been out sick so he was covering them besides and then every other spare moment had been spent with Alex. He hadn't had time to hunt, he didn't now, but he did need to have something.

Taking a quick look in the mirror Eiryk frowned. He knew by the club's standards he was making a half-hearted effort at best. But, that worked as his heart wasn't really in it (just his stomach) and he was in a hurry besides. It would just have to do.

Crap! As he started to pull his shoes on Eiryk heard what could only be Alex opening the door. MARI didn't let his boyfriend wander just any where but Alex had lived here for a while and was a frequent visitor; he had leave to come and go to Eiryk's rooms. He shoved his other shoe on and tried to work out how to beg Alex for a little delay in the evening.

Eiryk's answer was suspiciously vague. Alex watched his boyfriend for signs of untruths but he wasn't that good at gauging them really. He wished he didn't have any reason to suspect Eiryk would lie about it. When he elaborated though Alex felt a little better.

"So what way do you... look at things?" Alex asked. And, there was the unspoken counter to that - how did that differ from how the others saw things?

He really hadn't wanted to get into this kind of Q and A tonight. He just wanted to spend a nice weekend with Eiryk and no one else in the way. No issues. No weirdness.

He'd change the topic after this.

Eiryk stretched out considering how to answer. He didn't want to overwhelm, hell he wanted to encourage Alex.

"Well there is Tacheran, they are the youngest and I know the least about them so you'd have to meet one and ask. From what I gather they are sort of rebels. But that is just hearsay."

That Eiryk was quick to qualify. He didn't want to malign any one unnecessarily after all. He didn't go into the fact that on some levels they weren't even recognized as a clan.

"Anantya is the oldest of the clans, my maker is part of them. They are rather... well we didn't see eye to eye. Too straight laced and not overly fond of humans. They have a nasty habit of thinking of them as lesser creatures. That never did set well with me."

Giving Alex a second to think about that Eiryk polished off his glass of mead and started another.

"Then there is Evenhet I belong there. We have a goal of working with humans, coexistence. Every body has their strengths and weaknesses.... I can break into a rousing chores of 'kumbya my lord' if you'd like."

He flashed a grin trying to get a smile from his boyfriend but quickly grew serious.

"If you ever get in a bind, I mean run into a vampire who is not playing nice tell them you belong to Evenhet, to me even. I'm not really any body but it might help to have a name and might get them to back off. But you're not property or anything."

Eiryk clarified quickly. Someday they'd talk about familiars and such, but not now.

Alex's plans for changing the topic went slightly off kilter as Eiryk decided to be a wellspring of vampire knowledge all of a sudden. He listened quietly as Eiryk described the three clans he'd told Alex about.

It didn't surprise him to find Eiryk allied with the one that claimed to want to co-exist with... humans. It was difficult to think of Eiryk as less than or more than human, really. He didn't seem so different.

The last part threw him off a bit. If he ever... what?
"Is that actually likely to happen?"

Alex hadn't considered it... obviously not, if he hadn't considered that there were more Eiryks than just Eiryk wandering around. It was disturbing to think of himself as someone else's snack.

Eiryk leaned back into the couch and thought. As he thought he rubbed Alex's knee.

"I wouldn't say likely. I wouldn't be worried about it, I just want you to be prepared. You aren't property, but you are mine and I'm not terribly good at sharing."

Alex wasn't a meal, he wasn't a familiar, but he was still Eiryk's and he'd would be damned before he let another vampire bite him. Especially unwillingly.

"There other vampires in town and they have to eat too after all. But it is a big city with lots of people in it. Running into trouble would be a bit like winning the lottery."

Probably closer to getting four or five numbers than all six Eiryk mused, but he didn't elaborate on that for Alex. After all he'd been here a while now and Eiryk was the only vampire who'd snacked on him. Probably not the only one he'd met, Thanksgiving aside. Honestly even Eiryk wasn't that worried about it.

Alex smiled at Eiryk. "So you've mentioned before."

Alex wasn't particularly interested in being shared, or in sharing Eiryk. Not really.

Since Eiryk didn't seem to think anything of the number of vampires around Alex was inclined to trust him. While Eiryk might have lied about certain things, Alexander did believe he'd done so out of a sense of self-preservation. He had every reason to trust that Eiryk wanted him safe; therefore if Eiryk said not to worry Alex wouldn't worry. Much.

All right, maybe a little bit.

He finished off his own mead and accepted a refill; he had developed a definite fondness for Eiryk's meads, which always seemed very well thought out. Alex hadn't realized that it was such an artistic process until Eiryk had described it to him. Now he had a newfound respect for the skill and was donig his best to learn how to pick up on the different notes in each bottle Eiryk had opened.

"Okay. I trust you," he said to Eiryk. "If you tell me not to worry, I won't. But do me a favor. let me know when and if I should worry, all right?"

That was only fair after all.

"I can't help it that it keeps being true."

Eiryk grinned.

If he'd truly thought Alex was at any kind of risk he would have talked to him about being a familiar. But he really didn't see a need for that, more to the point he didn't want to do that. This was much better a relationship of equals.

That felt good when Alex said he trusted him Eiryk was doing his best to keep that trust.

"I promise when it is time to panic and run screaming I'll tell you. Probably even before then."

Maybe in a few weeks, months, he'd see if any of Alex's other friends wanted to fill him in on their nocturnal habits. It wouldn't be bad for Alex to get used to the idea of other friendly vampires. Well that would wait.

Noting Alex hadn't picked his pizza back up Eiryk chided, doing his best Greek matriarch impression.

"Eat something. You let strange men drink your blood you need to eat something!"

"Thanks for that," Alex said with a grin. "I just have to run faster than you."

He laughed when Eiryk did a horrible impression of... he wasn't sure what. "When did you turn into a Jewish housewife?" he asked.

Nonetheless he polished off the remnants of the forgotten piece of pizza in his hand and grabbed for another one. It was still warm and the cheese was gooey and stringy the way he liked it. Eiryk didn't seem to mind that he usually loaded his pizza with vegetables, which was sort of surprising. He'd have thought vampires would be all about red meat.

They eventually finished eating (well, Alex ate while Eiryk nibbled). Alex cleaned up the plates and the leftover pizza and then rejoined Eiryk on the couch where they managed to get reasonably snuggly and sort of watch a movie.

"It is my secret identity! Every other Thursday double as a match maker!"

Alex had no idea how lucky he was that Eiryk didn't burst into a number from Fiddler On The Roof right then. But it did get Alex to eat his pizza and as a result his veggies, so Eiryk felt better. Dinner, well Alex's dinner, was finished off and cleaned up.

Moving watching was... well debatable but it was a fantastic start to the weekend. As Eiryk started to encourage Alex to pay less attention to the movie he was quite pleased with having Alex all to himself for a few days. They might not get out at all.
