Just Follow the Directions (Attn: Alexander)

Eiryk was having a -very- hard time concentrating, Alexander had promised to come over for dinner and a movie. That was very -very- happy news for him. It might have him a little optimistic too. But Eiryk was trying very hard not to get his hopes up and respect Alexander's boundaries. Of course, boundaries changed all the time...

It wasn't until that day before that it occurred to Eiryk that Alexander might actually want to eat dinner. Well that was a pickle. He had no food and hadn't cooked in, well actually he couldn't remember. What an exciting challenge. He'd run out to buy a cookbook and then called for some groceries. He had no idea what he'd ordered but the instructions he'd given were to cover everything in the recipe for Cornish game hens he's picked out and then to stock a basic kitchen. His fridge looked a lot different with food in it.

Alexander should be here, soon, and he had planned to have the birds in the oven before Alexander arrived but Eiryk was very confused. Alternately staring at the cookbook and staring at poultry. He was starting to think hunting was considerably easier.

Alex peered out into the apartment. "Dining room, maybe," he said, noting that most of the remaining smoke was finding its way out through the open windows in the living room.

He glanced in the fridge for condiments but didn't see any. In fact, it struck him as odd that everything they'd used tonight had been unopened and unused. Alex watched Eiryk's back as he preceded him into the dining room. Maybe Alex wasn't the only one slightly insecure about his lifestyle? Following the blonde thoughtfully out, plate in hand, Alex wondered if his own intimidation had been obvious. Had Eiryk tried to do all this to give Alex a different impression of himself? He wouldn't put it past him. So Eiryk wasn't a cook... Alex had had a few friends who couldn't even prep a bowl of cereal and ate almost every meal out.

The idea that they both had their little quirks was a comforting one, and before he sat down to eat Alex bent and brushed his lips lightly against Eiryk's cheek.

"Dinner was a good idea," he said. "Next time maybe we won't get distracted."

Well... maybe next time they wouldn't arrange for dinner and entertainment at the same time. Alex had kind of liked the distraction.

At one point he'd considered dinner by candle light, but at this point Eiryk though they'd both had quite enough fire and smoke for one night. Besides it was late and it seemed a little silly.

He was more than a little relieved that Alexander wasn't holding the game hen against him. And it had turned out to be educational working in the kitchen with him again. He smiled sweetly at the little kiss.

"No... no. I liked the distraction. A lot."Â?

Eiryk smiled slyly at the other man, searching his face for evidence he'd enjoyed it too.

"It really is just a matter of coordinating the distraction and the cooking is all."Â?

Suddenly Eiryk remembered that he had to eat as well and cut into the omelet. It smelled good and oozed cheese, it was almost tempting. When he did take a bite it was very tasty.

Alexander met Eiryk's blue eyes and smiled into them, one of his rare warm smiles that brightened his entire face.

"I liked it too," he said. "You're hard to resist."

It didn't hurt him to offer the truth. Why he was resisting at all was another topic altogether. Alex bit into his omelet and swallowed before laughing softly at Eiryk, his expression light and unworried.

"I think our multi-tasking could use some work," he agreed. "I'll see if I can't find a book on the subject."

He wanted very badly to ask Eiryk where all of this was going. What did he want? A relationship? A fling? Alexander didn't even know, himself. All he knew was that he enjoyed Eiryk's company in a way he hadn't really ever enjoyed anyone else's. The more time they spent together the more Alex felt it was all right to be himself, and he'd never really had that freedom before. It was almost euphoric.

Alexander ate thoughtfully, quietly. When they had both finished he gathered up the dishes and he and Eiryk washed everything together. It wasn't in Alex's nature to sit idly by and play "guest" without contributing, and Eiryk seemed to sense that. If it bothered him, he didn't let it show.

A smile like that could cause a lot of trouble. As it was Eiryk sort of stopped and stared, after all he wasn't hungry. Well he didn't really care about the meal Alexander had prepared any way.

Sighing a bit wistfully he just laughed. There were very few things you couldn't learn from books, at least get an idea about.

"I think trial and error is going to work -much- better for us don't you?"Â?

Alexander went quiet again. It wasn't uncomfortable, it wasn't bad but Eiryk didn't know what to make of it. Alexander didn't seem to be with drawing just... considering maybe? He didn't know.

What he did know was that he liked Alexander, a lot. And if it took time for him to feel comfortable with him, Eiryk would do his best to give him that. And take lots of cold showers in the mean time.

Helping to clean up he was thankful that he could at lest work his dishwasher. He didn't need a flood after the near fire. He also knew it was late and that Alexander was working tomorrow, he'd probably want to leave soon and he didn't want Alexander too. So he avoided the topic all together. And brushed the younger man's hair back lightly.

"Dinner was very good. Maybe I should cook next time? Maybe a nice light salad though."Â?

Hey, he'd almost burnt the place down, if you couldn't laugh at that what could you laugh at?

"It will, as long as we don't attempt both at once again," Alexander replied.

They took care of the dishes and the kitchen, making sure everything was cleaned and properly stored. Eiryk's offer brought another smile to Alexander's face and he leaned into the light caress of the other man's hand.

"I think we work just fine together," he said. Alexander didn't need Eiryk to do things for him; he far preferred to work as part of a team. It was easier to enjoy the result when you both had something invested in it.

Looking at the clock, Alexander pulled Eiryk close and hugged him tightly.
"I have to go soon," he said regretfully. He'd told Eiryk before accepting his invitation that he couldn't stay long. But the few hours he'd been here felt shorter than they should. He wished it were Saturday, not Friday. Drawing away slightly he lowered his head and reminded himself how it felt to kiss someone who made you feel wanted and desirable. Yeah... it was still there. That cliched feeling that this could be the start of something very good.

Well technically it had already begun, but Alexander suspected that if events continued to follow their current course he might actually have a boyfriend. That made him smile again. No, he wasn't sure he could handle a relationship on top of everything else he had going on... but yes, he would damn well try if it was Eiryk.

"How about dinner again tomorrow? Are you busy?"

He almost asked Eiryk over to his apartment but looking at the luxuries around them he couldn't imagine doing so. Alex didn't exactly live in squalor, but it wasn't anywhere near as posh as Eiryk's place. He didn't have anywhere comfortable for two people to sit and eat, and his kitchen was barely large enough for one person much less two.

"We can go out or," he hesitated, not wanting to invite himself over again, and then shrugged, leaving Eiryk to make that decision. "It's up to you."

Maybe another date so soon was pushing it, but Eiryk's company was welcome, relaxing, and enjoyable.

"You don't -have- to. I understand why you need to but you are welcome to stay."Â?

Eiryk wouldn't even lay a finger on him if Alexander didn't want. He could be perfectly content, well not perfectly, but reasonably content just laying together the whole night. Not wanting to be too pushy Eiryk didn't say anything beyond that though.

Of course, no matter how much he wished Alexander would stay; it was probably be best if he didn't. It would be far too easy for some of Eiryk's 'quirks' to come to light. Eiryk wasn't quite ready to explain those quirks either.

When Alexander suggested seeing each other again tomorrow Eiryk enthusiastically took possession of his date's lips again. OK he wished Alexander would have said his place but Eiryk didn't really care.

"Whatever you want. We could go to a movie, then pick up dinner and bring it back here. You know one thing at a time."Â?

He teased Alexander a little, even though it had been his fault they'd gotten a bit out of order and had the game hen disaster.

Alexander hadn't had such a tempting offer.. well, ever really. he wanted to take Eiryk up on it, but common sense had him smiling into the blonde's kiss again and letting his arms fall regretfully away.

"In time," he said in his typical soft voice. "There's no hurry."

It was as much of a promise as he could make. Yes, he wanted that. Yes, he was willing. But he didn't see the rush. If he and Eiryk managed to make something of this, then they had all the time in the world, didn't they.

For now, Alex had a store to run and it was past midnight.
"Dinner and a movie sounds great," he said, his hand still in Eiryk's as he headed toward the door.

As he turned to go Alex paused and bent, brushing his lips along Eiryk's ear.
"You pick the movie... make it one you've already seen."

He returned Eiryk's joke from their first date, only this time instead of wondering whether it was a simple flirt or a serious come-on, Alex left Eiryk standing in his own doorway with no doubt as to the seriousness of his statement.

With light steps and a cheerful outlook for tomorrow, Alex made his way out of Liefde and headed for his own modest apartment.

Really Eiryk should be very embarrassed that this young human man had more restraint that he did. But he wasn't. It was fun being the ... well temptress wasn't right but the concept was the same. As long as Alexander kept letting Eiryk now he was being tempting, Eiryk would keep playing the part.

Soon, he promised himself, very soon he was going to push further. He wasn't a saint and had no intention on pretending he was.

"Then I'm going to look look forward to it."Â?

Two nights in a row! Almost the jackpot. What did this count as four out of six numbers in the power ball? Five? Whatever.

Holy crap. Eiryk's jaw hit the floor. That was pretty forward for Alexander. And. He. Loved. It.

It took a second or three, most of which Eiryk spent enjoying the view as Alexander went back to the elevator, but he gathered his wits back up and went inside already making plans for the next night. Buying out the theater seemed like a good start.
