Making Plans ((Attn: Drew and Brig))

When Kai hadn't managed to run into Drew by Wednesday, she decided to send him an email after work. Sitting cross legged at one of the computers in the common area, and nibbling on a plate full of raw veggies and fruit slices, she wrote:

To: Drew
From: Kai
Reason: Saturday

Hey Drew,

I don't know if you've made any plans for this weekend yet, but I was able to get the boat for this weekend if you're still interested in skiing and fishing. Oh and we can snorkel! If you and your friends can swing it or don't want to have to drive home Sat. night I have the boat until Sunday afternoon. It sleeps ten, but keep in mind that it's a research vessel so the accommodations are...not luxury. (means two to a room) Anyway, let me know! You can call or email, you know which ever is easiest.

Oh and I invited someone, I hope that's ok!

~Kai.

With that one done, she tapped her fingers against the desk for a moment then sent off another email.

To:Brig Jameson
From: Kai Brown
Reason: Saturday

Brig,

Are you still up for Saturday? I'm still ironing out the details, but it looks like fishing, skiing and snorkeling will be involved. And if you want you're welcome to stay the night on the boat, I have it reserved until Sunday afternoon.

~Kai

There that wasn't too weird was it? With a shrug, she logged out and took her little plate out on the porch. She'd check her email in a little while.

Brig winced when Drew called him 'sir'. 'Please, just Brig. And I don't mind being in the minority. I'll eat either, just prefer cooked if I can have it.'

He considered Kai's question with a grin.
'How many of us are going? You might want to tell him to cook for fifty instead.' Hammer could eat an entire cow if given the chance - he's seen him do it - but if there were a lot of the pack going, tripling up wasn't a bad idea.

'So off to school, Drew?' Brig asked looking at his bag.

"I don't eat broccoli either. Ask my mom."Â?

She'd given up on Drew and vegetables when he was fifteen at his grandfather's insistence. She was an Illamar and his father didn't have the same dietary preferences as Drew. It had been a little bit of a surprise to her, but she'd rolled with it. Eventually.

Oh brilliant, numbers. Drew made a bit of a thoughtful sound and started mentally counting people and rescheduling a few guys who wouldn't quite be appropriate to the venue.

"Right now I've only got four including me three of us can eat but I'm the only raw freak. Any one you else you want to bring you're responsible for their menu."Â?

He was tempted to invite Nikhila, and by default the Chief, but he decided to leave that call to Kai.

The school comment earned a bit of a double take.

"What the hell? Did Nikhila recruit you too?"Â?

An easy smile and obvious humor defused his words. Honestly Drew didn't think Nikhila would stoop to getting any one else to pressure him about his education. Thank god because the two he had were more than enough.

"But nope. No school I've got the night shift over at Meridian, in the archives. Not a bad job if you can get it."Â?

Drew said with some pride.

Brig raised his eyes at the mention of Meridian, but left it alone to comment on Drew's reaction to school and the Alpha's woman.

'Heh, no, she didn't. I wouldn't tease you about school. I, myself, was forced but higher education does lend to...uh...higher aspirations, so to speak.'

Brig had gone through college near the turn of the century, but he wagered fun was still fun, despite the year. And he had more fun than was legally allowed even back then.

'You're missing out, Drew,' he said with a hearty laugh.

Kai made another face at Drew. "Only three are you sure? The skipper is taking us out to a little barrier island owned by the University, we can be as obnoxious as we want out there. And there's room for more than that."

She sighed softly. "The only people I know besides you two and Nikhila are from work. I don't think it's a good idea to put a bunch of marine biologist on a boat over night with a bunch of rowdy wolves." She chuckled lightly.

As the two talked, she looked out over the trees and watched the spectacular display of pink and orange turn to dark blues and purples, as the sun gave way to the moon.

Brig's pocket vibrated again. Reaching into his back pocket, he looked at his iphone and noticed the blinking message for a 'face to face' message. Touching the screen, Hammer's face loomed into view, giving him a start.

'Brig...what is this,' Hammer said pointing at the screen and talking to someone off to the side. 'Why would you...just talk?' Brig recognized the voice of another Piper and cracked a smile.

'What's up, Hammer?' He said softly, turning away from Drew and Kai.

'I need you here - LT's on his way to talk to the pup.' The 'pup' being Marthinus. With a nod, he sat forward and reached out to turn off the screen.

'Is that it? Am I done?' Hammer asked again to the unseen Piper. The irritation rose in his face and he glared with his one eye at the man. 'If you ever ask me to use this fucking thing again, I will break you in half...'

Clicking off the 'face to face', Brig stood and gave Kai a sad smile. 'You'll have to excuse me. Duty calling.' He looked at Drew and gave him a nod. 'Nice meeting you Drew, I'll see you both on Saturday.'

Brig gently took Kai's hand and gave it a soft kiss. 'Kai,' he said with a wink, then turned to leave.

Now that kind of logic Drew understood and he laughed. Undergrad had been a -great- time, Masters had gotten a bit more serious but he still looked young enough to pass for an underclassman. Maybe he was put off because the PhD candidates always looked so serious. Although, that didn't have to mean he had to be.

"More than one way to look at it."Â?

He said with a grin.

At Kai's apparent disappointment Drew was quick to justify.

"Well the other guys... aren't family."Â?

He shrugged, that explained it all. If they were going to do an overnight trip he wasn't going to make every one else suppress their natures for that. Reign, well she was different she wasn't a wolf but she knew and she wasn't stupid about things she wouldn't get in trouble with a bunch of four legged types about.

Drew managed to curb his curiosity about the phone and not eaves drop, it wasn't easy but he managed. As Brig made his exit Drew looked at the sunset, pretending not to notice the semi flirting. Sun set? He looked at his watch.

"Crap! I've got to get too or I'll be late. Good to meet you too though."Â?

He managed to grin and grab the rest of the chicken and a few other things wolfed some down and made to carry the rest to his truck.

"Kai I'll stop by the aquarium on the way home and we can nail down the rest of this. Promise."Â?

Drew said before trotting in the direction of his truck. He would stop by the aquarium on the way home, he'd get Reign to meet him, it would be fun.

"Ah, well that makes sense."

She smiled at Drew, and then didn't listen to the phone conversation Brig had. It was easy enough to figure out he was being called to work.

She offered him a sly smile in response to his wink.
"I'll email you details tomorrow."

And then Drew was up and scarfing down food. "Sure thing, Drew. I'll be there after eight."

With humor twinkling in her eyes and thing much more serious tingling in her belly, she watched the sun give up his fight and the sky gave up hiding the stars. It was that odd moment here in the east when the stars had reign because Lady Luna had not yet fully awakened. Kai watched the stars dance merrily for a little while, before sighing softly and taking her plate indoors.

She dropped the plate off in the proper place and headed to her room. Impulse had her pulling her phone out and letting Brig know that she had a couple hours before bed and would be spending it on her balcony. Why she did it could only be answered by that serious tingle.
