Bad Moon Rising (PM for invite)

Mara took note of Dana's warbrobe change as they ran; she picked up the pace from a jog to a run once the younger vampire seemed content with the changes she'd made. The park wasn't far; already they were close to the grounds. A narrow strip of woodland spat them out across the baseball diamond; Mara ran across the turf without a thought and over the parking lot beyond. Amir wasn't here. He would be further in.

They crossed the second parking lot and Mara saw a familiar car pulling up. She skidded to a halt, waiting impatiently for Bao to emerge, dancing from foot to foot.

Oringo Ramsey 13 years ago
Ringo tasted fresh blood as he shook his head hard, trying to separate the vampire's shoulder from his body when his teeth grazed the silver lining along the shoulder. Immediately Ringo fell off, scurrying back from the intense pain of just the bare touch of the metal. His mouth was on fire, the silver burning his gums and tongue.

Twisting, shaking his head, he dug his snout into the dirt, trying desperately to get the residual pain from his mouth. Immediately two of his Nakubili shadows launched themselves forward, protecting his flanks.
Xeph 13 years ago
Xeph tottered around for a moment after his head exploded with stars. Staggering this way and that like a cartoon coyote he finally shook away the comets and planets in time to see Hammer, disoriented, naked, and bleeding. He looked up and heard the sounds as Lily ground the jackal's ankle, doing her utmost to separate it, keeping those deadly blades from diving into Hammer's human flesh. The vampire turned; Lily cringed, and Nikhila took out his other knee.

The action was almost too fast to keep track of, but seeing Nikhila enter the fray wiped the rest of the cobwebs from Xeph's head. The vampire was on the ground, one leg completely non-functional after Lily's mauling, the other yanked roughly out to the side, knee at an angle that was not right at all. Xeph charged, and Lily and Nikhila fell away as if choreographed. Each one pinned or bit an arm as Xeph barreled into the vampire's chest, three hundred pounds of brute force. He attacked with his jaws, trying for the vampire's throat, hoping to bleed him dry and end this. With his massive paws he pinned the vampire's arms himself,

The vampire was quick though; even pinned down he managed to deflect Xeph's teeth. Xeph slashed into his skin again and again; his forehead, his eye, his ear, even the joint of his jaw... he was never able to follow through at the neck.
The Pipers 13 years ago
There were seven Pipers, eight if you include the LT, left in the pack now. They had stopped calling family from overseas to fill up the ranks after the Alpha had put them on indefinite hiatus. So those that were left formed an even tighter bond, hunting together as well as playing in the city together. Brothers, cousins - they acted like young men and enjoyed it.

'Oh you wanker!'

They had succumbed to the full moon early but only the LT and two others had managed to shift back to human form as the others mulled around, play fighting as wolves. The moon's sway would pull at them again soon, so they enjoyed a quick chat and a cigarette as they felt the madness creeping back.

'Lend me a fag, quick.'

Charlie threw a cigarette at Red's head and then began to undress, not wanting to destroy another set of clothes when a frantic howl pierced the night, followed by the angry call of the Beta. Charlie and Red stopped immediately and looked to the rest of the Pipers and their LT.

LT yelled out as he began to run back into the forest with a half naked Charlie.
'Two and two take the flanks, Charlie and Red with me.'

Cresting a hill, LT forced his change and landed on all fours, shredding his clothes as Charlie and Red did the same. The eight Pipers ran swiftly into the night on full alert with their cups filled to the brim with urgency as well as their madness.
Mara 13 years ago
The sounds of fighting were close now; Mara, Bao and Dana sprinted along the edge of the grass where it ran into the sandy beach heading toward the now overwhelming scent of blood. Howls split the air from all sides; Mara glanced back at Bao and rounded the edge of a short bluff.

What she saw had a furious scream tearing past her lips, and reason fled. There were wolves everywhere. Two of them had their heads tilted up, howling at the sky. Three stood off together, looking threatening. Two white wolves flanked a third but were backing slowly away with their heads lowered. Even in her rage, Mara did not miss that one of them was slowly interposing herself in front of the other. But the last one made Mara see red.

The large brown one was standing on Amir. On him! The smell of blood was too strong, and Amir was clearly injured. The wolf's face descended once, twice, a third time. Blood sprayed, skin tore, and Amir's entire body seized up as he made an abortive move to fight off the wolf on top of him.

Mara dashed out well in front of Bao, kodachi in hand, and hurtled fearlessly into the preoccupied werewolf. The kodachi flashed, she drew blood. Her fist pounded in onto the side of the wolf's head, where she could see a pre-existing injury. The silver rings upon her fingers split his skin. Mara followed up with a spinning kick to the wolf's chest, even as he began to change.

Straddling Amir she flashed the kodachi again, daring any of the others to approach.
Nikhila 13 years ago
No. Just, no. She watched as Xeph plowed over the vampire. With all her might, she willed him to find the creature's throat but he hadn't. He couldn't. However, she'd fallen back with Lily and wasn't in the ideal location to offer any assistance.

Hearing Hammer and Brig call, and they could only be calling to The Pipers (at least she hoped they were) was of no comfort. Aidan had been hit and was losing his form. No! He would be nearly helpless as a human. Certainly, he couldn't stand against this Silu as a man. Nikhila was determined to protect her mate. She was -not- going to be a single mother. Not under any circumstance.

Not caring that she would have to cross between the Silu and the Vyusher Nikhila tried to get to Aidan. To stand watch over him, guard him, to give him a chance to regain his wolf form. But she was thwarted. Lily, the other female, her pack mate turned on her. Nikhila returned like with like, hackles raised teeth bared. It, however, took only a second a brief confrontation for her to back down and let Lily dominate her. Although she whined plaintively worried for her mate, and while it pained her, she made no further attempt to get to Xeph and kept her attention on the vampire and his protector. May the sisters forgive her, Nikhila wished with all her might to see some weakness from this sword wielding female and from the male that joined her.
Bao 13 years ago
Fangs and fierce visage in full force Bao charged in only inches behind Mara. Dear god, Subira had sent Amir to die and Amir had accepted cheerfully. He tried to count the wolves and quickly ran out of fingers. Three of an odd reddish color, two white, one black with points for a total of six and if he was not much mistaken both packs. Was it possible for both packs to work together? Not in any of the research he'd done, but he could be wrong.

The smell of blood was thick, unless he missed his guess it was not all wolf blood, nor all vampire blood, but it was thick. Bao quickly sized up the situation and what he could do. The wolves had very clearly found Amir's weakness and Mara was trying to hold them off.

While he was... concerned by the number of wolves they were facing Bao, without a second thought, threw himself in behind Mara, straddling Amir's body with his back to his older sister determined to help protect her and to guard his maker with his very life if necessary.

Mara growled under her breath in Vietnamese at him that she had an idea. He quickly and tersely nodded that he was agreeable. Whatever she wanted was fine by him. So long as they could get all four of them out alive... alive being a relative term where Amir was concerned.
Dana 13 years ago
The sounds of fighting, set panic to fluttering in her "chest," and she wished they were moving faster. She could not leave them, so she flitted back and forth between them, until finally they were clear of the trees.

The scene they came upon, froze Dana. Amir was on the ground, and a wolf was eating him. She'd just begun to float toward the ground, when a strange noise left Mara and her two clan mates were hurtling into the fray. The wolf was cast aside and the two stood protecting Amir.

She could not help here, she knew that. These monsters were bigger, stronger, more frightening than she had imagined. Unsure and frightened, Dana hovered in the shadows of the trees.
Xeph 13 years ago
Xeph's teeth slid off of bone, punctured soft tissue, and tore at flesh, but the damned vampire knew what to protect and Xeph wasn't able to open an artery or do anything that would kill him quickly.

So fixated was he on his goal that he didn't realize the Kadzait weren't the only ones with backup. As if out of nowhere, there was a bloodcurdling scream and suddenly a blade bit into his side. Almost at the same instant the new attacker's fist bit into the aching side of his head with a burn that shouted 'silver!' Xeph fell back, assisted by a powerful kick that cracked something in his chest and sent him flying.

He saw stars, and for the next few minutes there was nothing but howling pain as the silver forced a change over a body with already-broken bones. He came to curled in a fetal position on the ground near Hammer and Brig, gasping for breath while his chest exploded in pain.

Xeph saw Nikhila trying to reach him; Lily holding her back. The vampire was being guarded now, and still he moved! How could he? Xeph knew he hadn't killed him but the man was grievously wounded. Yet, as Xeph watched in horror he began to get upright once more.

That was the only thing he had time to observe before the moon commanded his attention once more and he lost sight of everything once more. Bones ground against each other, tendons snapped and crackled, and joints expanded and shrank.

He didn't move this time; he just lay on the ground and panted with exhaustion. The Pipers were coming.

He'd have to un-suspend them. Huh.
Amir 13 years ago
Amir lost track of what was going on somewhere between the one white wolf trying to sever his ankle, the other one attempting to bring his knee home for a snack, and the explosion on his chest that was a raging Xephier.

Given the conscious choice, he'd rather lose a few body parts than have Xephier take out his throat, so he did just that. Twisting, turning, able to use his arms without any leverage at all, trapped as they were beneath Xephier's enormous paws, Amir countered Xephier's snapping jaws by not allowing him access to the part he sought.

Blood flowed anew as those massive teeth dug into the socket of his left eye and he felt a tremendous burst of pain radiating into his skull as the jaws clamped down and bored gouges into the bone around it. Warm fluid gushed from the now-empty socket, part blood, part vitreous, all agony. A hot breath heralded another rush and Amir wrenched his shoulder up and away, using it to bump Xephier's jaws again. They ground shut on Amir's own jaw, crushing bone and tearing flesh away.

A third snap took most of his left ear and rent deep gouges into his scalp, which proceeded to bleed like nobody's business. By that time Amir was paying little attention. His remaining eye was blurring and everything seemed to slow to a crawl.

He flexed the muscles in his abdomen, trying to bring his legs up and wedge them beneath Xephier's massive body, but his own frame was taxed. Nothing was responding quickly enough. Those teeth closed in again; Amir vividly noted the strings of bloody saliva. Hell, he could see bits of his own tissue clinging to the wolf's teeth. Still, he didn't give ground, didn't bare his neck.

And then time sped up. A blur above him, a flash, a scream, and Xephier fell away, droplets of his blood spattering across Amir's tortured face. He rolled his one good eye up, and felt something oddly peaceful settle over him.

Mara. Stupid child. These wolves would kill her too, and the thought pained him.

Another shape hovered over him. Bao. How had they known?

Dana.

And Amir couldn't look for her, couldn't meet her eyes at all. He felt energized though; pride, he realized. Pride, which was his downfall but which now ultimately bore him upright. He dug his kilij into the dirt and hauled himself from beneath Mara and Bao's legs, tucking his uninjured knee under him and making no sound as he rolled vertical.

Pushing down on his left foot, forcing his ruptured left knee to obey, channeling what little blood he could spare to repair it slightly, Amir stood and faced the wolves.

Not time to die just yet.
The Nakubili 13 years ago
The Nakubili worked as a unit, always, and to stray from this would be punishable by methods lethal than death itself. To be separated from the Nakubili would be unthinkable, but to purposely separate yourself...no one had ever done that, not until tonight.

No one referred to Ringo by his name, but as the Unkulunkulu, the God. He provided for them, loved them, protected them - so to refuse him or leave him would be impossible. The Unkulunkulu was magnificent in his violence, but suddenly he was thrashing on the ground, yelping in pain so immediately two of the Nakubili rushed forward, guarding their Unkulunkulu. It was Sisi, the sister, the only female of the Nakubili that broke tradition that night. It could be only her that would have.

Sisi snarled at the enyogas (snakes), baring her sharp teeth, ears flat on her head, and her body low to the ground, protecting the Unkulunkulu's left flank when the Kadzait Alpha was touched by the enyoga's silver. They could all smell it, as they hid in the shadows, watching...waiting. Sisi watched with her yellow eyes and saw the two other white females. Her eyes drifted to the older female who stepped forward and forced the other back and with a side look, Sisi looked intently on the second female, her eyes concentrating.

The female was pregnant - she could recognize the musky smell of the pheromones that undoubtedly the other males could not even begin to understand. No male would. Suddenly Sisi was torn - her Unkulunkulu or the child within the female? The vampire would make that choice for her and Sisi could not stop herself from lunging toward the enyoga, fangs bared to protect the female with child.

Mara 13 years ago
Having made a critical observation Mara had to time her movements right, but they were spoiled slightly by two things. First Amir, her cursedly stubborn, beloved creator, somehow, some way, began to haul his bloodied corpse upright. And then he didn't even have the good sense to stand behind his children and let them be protective for once, no! He placed himself between them and the wolves.

Secondly, one of the wolves flanking the black one broke away, ruining what was a tense, pregnant standstill, leaping for Mara even as Mara herself sprang into motion. There was nothing but action and reaction; no time to do anything but go on instinct. Mara felt the wolf's jaws close upon her forearm as she raised it up defensively.

Levering the wolf up and over, she hammered it against the ground and plunged the blade of her sword through its ribs and into the dirt on the other side of its body, impaling it. As her arm was released she fell onto the hilt of the sword, grasped it with both hands and pushed up and away in a handspring, pulling it out of the dying wolf and hurtling toward the older white one.

They were protecting the younger one. Both of them. Particularly this older female. The younger one meant something to them. Mara had no idea what but she didn't wait around to find out. She locked her knees around the older white wolf's neck and slammed her to the ground as well, ignoring the claws that ripped through her jeans into her leg. Mara punched the wolf in the head, badly denting her two rings, but the wolf collapsed and stopped thrashing, losing control of her form.

Mara didn't bother to stop and watch. The others were already in action, springing toward them, barely held back by Bao and a supremely unsteady Amir. Wrapping her arm around the remaining wolf's neck, she scored two shallow cuts as she punched that one, as well, on the temple. Her sword came up, kissing the wolf's neck gently, her arm still wrapped around her. Mara's other hand rested where it was, holding the thrashing wolf as she transformed into a very familiar figure.

It was over in seconds, from the time Mara began moving to the time she looked down on a dazed and pained Nikhila Gounder, scientist and, apparently, werewolf.

"Well hello," Mara purred.
Dana 13 years ago
Dana bobbed and swayed in the shadows, as she anxiously watched Amir stand. He was alive, barely and the stupid man stood up. She wanted him to run away, but knew that he would not. He would fight to the death.

Perhaps she could speak with him, but she'd never spoken in this form. It was stupid to hide and then talk. She didn't even know if she could. She floated out into the clearing a short ways, but suddenly Mara was attacked. Dana made a soft squeak and ran back to the shadows. She felt like such a coward.
The Pipers 13 years ago
LT and the other two Pipers streaked through the forest like the wind, winding through the trees, quickly closing the distance between them and the erratic call of their Commander and Beta. LT could see the other Pipers on the left and right of him as they began to circle to the east and west side of a clearing up ahead. Immediately LT could smell an unbelievable amount of blood as they broke off and started their incoming attack. Seeing the Nakubili hidden in the shadows ahead of him was not altogether surprising, but the vampires attacking a group of wolves, all familiar, was.

Still, LT was almost stunned into paralysis when he finally reached the clearing and saw their Alpha naked and wounded, his mate captured by another vampire, their CO and Beta moving as a team with...

Ringo Ramsey was, and still is, a Piper nemesis. He is THE Piper nemsis . LT's personal problems with the situation would not go unvoiced (that's for damn sure). All seven large and red Pipers burst into the clearing and in response the ten remaining Nakubili entered as well, both sides torn between killing each other or killing the vampires.

LT lunged at Ringo, baring his sharp fangs with his hackles stick straight, his eyes moving back and forth between his nemesis and the vampires attacking the females. Duty overwhelmed his honor and he moved away toward the females with three other Pipers and closed in on the vampire.
The Nakubili 13 years ago
The Nakubili moved together, breaking out of the shadows of the forest and converged into the clearing, facing off with the Kadzait Pipers, protecting their Unkulunkulu when Sisi, their sister, broke rank and charged the enyoga in an unsanctioned move to protect the Kadzait females. None of the males understood why, but as she laid there, impaled by the enyoga's blade, it did not matter.

Ten Nakubili, seven Pipers, including their Commander and Kadzait Beta surrounded the two vampires protecting the original interloper. The Nakubili Second looked to the
Unkulunkulu, who recovered from his silver touch, and he barked ferociously at the Nakubili. The message was clear.

Vengeance would be ours.

The Pipers were forgotten, for now.
Iov Hammerthynn 13 years ago
Suddenly the clearing was very crowded. The blood was flowing freely from not just the interloper, but by the Alpha, himself, Brig, Ringo, one of the Nakubili had fallen, his mate was pushed to the ground, forced into her change, and...

Nikhila.

Hammerthynn's hackles were on end, so much so that it literally hurt. The fury he was feeling almost overwhelmed his cautious side. He did not want to think, he wanted to kill. Kill them all. But he wasn't stupid.

Hammer stepped forward and barked a long growl at the Pipers. They were on the verge of tearing the Nakubili apart AND the vampire, but they retreated or at least stopped their advance. Ringo immediately caught on and signaled to his team the same.

His heart went out to Lily as she laid there on the dirt. As far as he could tell, she was just unconscious, but had managed to switch back to human, then to wolf again. At least any damage would heal a little faster and she wasn't so vulnerable.
Mara 13 years ago
Mara frowned as the wolves surrounded them. There were far too many of them. Pressing her two rings to Nikhila's temple she ground them in savagely, scowling at the wolves.

"Let's go," she said softly to Bao and Amir. She raised her voice. "We'll give her back - conditional on your good behavior."
Xeph 13 years ago
Xeph rolled to his feet, finally, in time to see the woman who'd decked him whirl around, take out the Nakubili female, and Lily. He sprang forward, heedless of the vampires in front of him, and was rewarded twofold when Nikhila cried out in pain and something burst into his face.

The latter had an immediate reaction on him. The unmistakable tang of silver filled his nose and began to sting his eyes, and yet again his body reacted. Even more quickly and painfully than before, Xeph was thrust into his naked human body. Still the silver burned away at him and he realized the jackal had thrown tiny particles of filed silver into his face as he tried to pass. The realization helped little; Xeph's eyes watered, his throat burned, and he gagged helplessly as his body did everything in its power to rid itself of the tiny particles.

Down on his knees, an hour or a year might have passed. He raised watery eyes, felt the tension, felt the tightly-knotted muscles of his Pack around him.

Dry-heaving, he felt himself falling inside and out. All he could see, even with his eyes reddened and feeling burned, was the slim trickle of blood at Nikhila's neck.

"Go," he coughed harshly, breath not coming easily. Then he turned to Hammer, to Brig and the Pipers, and managed one more word. "Follow."

And then he lowered himself to the dirt and once more curled up in misery as the moon once more forced him back, slowly and painfully. He embraced it this time. He wanted the vampires dead. They should be attacking, not submitting. But the wily female had forced them into a stalemate.

His eyes continued to water.
Brig Jameson 13 years ago
The Alpha need only speak it.

Brig, the Pipers, and Hammer acknowledged their Alpha and they broke off, slowly following the vampires, especially the one that held the helpless Nikhila, the Alpha's mate. Brig could see the fury in Hammer's eyes, but with a savage growl, he finally caught Hammer's attention and Brig softly barked, nudging his cousin, trying to get him to exert his control on Ringo who was creeping up behind the Pipers with vengeance in his eyes.

His cousin swung his massive head back, his good eye still on the vampires, and growled at Ringo, forcing him back into submission. Ringo fell behind, along with the rest of the Nakubili.

The Pipers came up on their sides and spread out into a half circle around the vampires as they exited.
Nikhila 13 years ago
She'd only just registered the male vampire protecting the first as Bao Hoang when far too much happened far too fast. The woman advanced on Lily, but that was slowed by one of the Vyusher. Nikhila hadn't even seen the other wolf and suddenly it was intervening. She didn't understand why she would have made such a decision. Nikhila didn't even have time to be concerned for or even ponder those actions before Lily was attacked and forced to change.

This vampire was fresh, uninjured and very fast. Nikhila had no time to either attempt to protect Lily or even to flee. She yelped in surprise and pain when she was cut and tried to twist out of the way. The vampire's arm around her neck prevented escape though. Being forced back into her human shape under these circumstances was painful but she bit down on the pain and fear determined to remain rational.

Twisting in pain, whimpering slightly as it burned her and kept her helpless she barley heard what was being said. To say she was scared was something of an understatement. She couldn't even protect her child, let alone herself. She looked to the others for help but knew there wouldn't be much they could do.
Bao 13 years ago
For a second, a -very- brief moment, Bao allowed himself a look that was both triumphant and lustful. Dr. Gounder. He'd savor that realization later, although part of him didn't want to give her back no matter how well these wolves behaved and no matter how much of a problem keeping a werewolf hostage would be. Now, however, was not the time for that.

Instead, he supported Amir, who took on last parting shot at Xephier holding him off, and with Mara worked on leaving. He'd never seen this many wolves in one place, at one time and never cared to again. If they'd been just a few minutes later, they'd be harvesting Amir's ashes. Bao didn't like to think of that.
