End of the Road ((Attn Nikki, Steve))

The Camero turned onto the gravel drive tightly, and Amby let her speed drop as they wound down the manor's drive. They rounded a bend and the sprawling estate house was visable through a break in the trees. Motioning towards it to draw Nikki's attention, she said quietly, "Home sweet home."

Pulling up they slid to a halt in front of the large double doors. Immediately killing the engine, the leggy blonde unfolded herself from the lowslung sports car and came around to the passenger's side to help the staff that was now moving down the Manor's steps.

In her mind the blonde ran through a check list. First thing was to get Steve turned over to the physician's care and then to get Nikki away someplace private and see if she could get blood down. The first few times feeding could always be a bit... traumatic. It certainly didn't need to be a public affair. And, thankfully Amberelle knew tricks since she'd had a difficult time adjusting herself. After that was done and she could trust the newly turned vampire was somewhat stable they could check on Steve and discuss where to go from there. Now it all hinged on Nikki going along with it, she thought with a grimace.

Nikki almost laughed out loud at her brother's claim that her had never "overdone it." She shook her head, trying to pull off the "pull your head out of your ass, young man" look that their mother had given so well.
"Oh really?" she said, acting angrier than she was, "Do I need to remind you of the time you went to Paris for a 'romantic vacation?'" She looked over at Amberelle. "This little weasel went off and was chasing down some guy who stole the NAV computer out of an F-22. He got the computer, and the guy, but he also got put in traction for two weeks. And the girl he was supposedly with? His commanding officer!" She looked back at Steve. Her face softened at his next question. Was she alright? Even she didn't know. "I think so," she said slowly. "I mean, I feel fine. Actually, I feel better than I have in a long time." She looked at her hands, examining each one carefully. "I don't know how to describe it. I guess being a vampire has to come with some changes..."

Steve went red as Nikki brought up the old mission. It was true, he had gotten messed up on that run, but there was a lot his sister didn't know about. He decided to let the subject slide as Nikki answered his question. His eyes never wavered from her face when she told him how she was feeling. Most of it was concern for her, but a small part of him was curious, interested in finding out how it felt to be a vampire... He mentally shook away that sick desire for information, and focused on what was important: Nikki. His muscles tensed when she said she was a vampire. It was true, then. He had known it had to be, since the vamps were more security-conscious than the government, but somehow, hearing it from her wiped away all traces of hope that this was just a bad prank or something. He reached out and put his hand on her arm. "It's going to be alright, sis," he said, a softness in his voice only Nikki could cause. "I'm here for you, and I'm sure the vampires here will be willing to help you get used to this." He smiled at her. "It's gonna be alright, Nik. Trust me."
He just hoped he was right. After what he'd seen of the vampires, he really couldn't be sure of anything.
