What a Girl Doesn't Know... (open/attn: Amir/Bao)

She could be wrong, but Dana was quite certain she had never seen this particular building before. She stood outside the building Amir had directed her to the night before, dressed in black yoga pants, a green bikini cut sports bra, a red sweater, and her first and only pair of flip flops. The girl in the athletics store had talked her into them, when she'd asked for comfortable shoes to slip on and off for travel to and from her lessons.

In one hand she held a small black duffel bag, containing a change of clothes, and in the other her guitar case. She was just under an hour early, mostly due to being finished with her other tasks. It was not enough time to start anything, or go anywhere, so she'd grabbed her guitar and headed out here.

Finding a relatively clear place beneath a tree, she pulled the sleek black instrument from its case, took a moment to tune it, then began to play whatever came to mind.

Taking that as her que to observe, Dana moved to the side of the mats. Before she could finish her decent to the floor, Bao spoke in greeting to another person.

Reversing her actions she stepped out onto the mats again, to see who had joined them. It was not someone she knew, hardly surprising. She smiled and nodded politely.

"Good Evening."

She had nothing else to add, but it was much to rude of her to return to her place on the edge of the mats. So she remained where she was, waiting for the woman to come in or leave.
Celeste 14 years ago
Celeste had returned the men's greetings with a slight but respectful nod. Honestly she had not wanted to intrude, but to just watch and observe. It was interesting to watch the dynamic between the three. Apparent age and class were never a way to judge their kind so the Nightswoman was always on the lookout for tell tale clues about everyone.

When the girl rose and stood waiting after her greeting, Celeste sighed mentally. So much for skirting the fringe and just watching. No, now she was forced to choose. Social interaction or leave. Eh.. she was tired of being bored tonight.

Walking in and skirting around so as not to distract the sparring partners she moved quietly up to be just a short distance from Dana's right. Cel crossed her arms and gave most of her attention to the men, watching form and function with knowledgeable eyes even as she spoke softly.

"Bonsoir. I hope you don't mind if I observe some?" Icy blue orbs shifted to Dana, wondering if she would actually say something negative in response. Cel knew she herself would, if only to be sarcastic.

As the woman moved into the space, Dana returned to her place. She gave the dark hair vampire, she assumed, a small smile.

"No, I do not mind."

Her voice barely qualified as a whisper. Her focus returned to the floor as she watched her new teachers spar with one another. Pleasantries would wait until the lesson was over. It was, in her opinion, rude to talk through a demonstration, not to mention she had a great deal to learn from the men before her.

It was interesting to watch them together. They did not pull punches and the soft thuds of impact hit her ears particularly loudly when they came from Amir's body. It confused her that she would be more sensitive to the sound of Amir being hurt, but she did not really care to delve into the whys at this moment.

Instead she concentrated on watching the movements they made and not the end result of them.
Bao 14 years ago
After his initial greeting, Bao’s attention returned to his maker. He didn’t dare let his attention wander during a session like this, undoubtedly Amir would take advantage of it should he be less than attentive. He would be with in his rights to do so as well, to point out the flaw. Therefore, Bao didn’t give him the opportunity.

Assuming a position in front of Amir and with a minimum of formality they set about engaging each other. The first several brief encounters wound up with Bao on the ground, however, he was practiced enough to easily roll back to his feet and engage Amir again. It didn’t take long before Bao realized that the older vampire was protecting his wrist, probably a result of his ‘meeting’.

He had been taught by both Amir and his maker and therefore was ruthless enough to start to make Amir’s life difficult. He began to deliberately position himself on Amir’s weak side and became more aggressive. It would have been flat out uncalled for to grab Amir’s wrist but it was sporting fun to force him to use it. He should have known better to take damage to such a delicate and blood rich area.
Amir 14 years ago
Amir registered the newcomer's request, as well as her language, with a nod. The question hadn't been phrased to him, but he didn't want to ignore her, since the three of them were clearly here as a group.

Here though, was a time to see if Bao had grown rusty at all. He and Amir exchanged passes, working back and forth in a fairly companionable exercise for a few minutes. Mindful of the fragility of his newly-healed wrist Amir was doing his best to conceal it as a weakness, but it wasn't entirely possible to do. He overlooked several opportunities for a left-handed chest thrust that on any given day he'd have taken. The pressure of such a thing at the moment, however, would likely have broken his wrist all over again. While he was used to working through adverse conditions, thanks to Subira, he didn't think that would benefit the demonstration.

Bao, however, was too canny not to notice and began to maneuver himself in the most advantageous positions possible, forcing Amir to use his left arm. He avoided punching but aikido was a game of throws and grabs, and Bao was forcing him to grab with that arm.

He flashed a grin and nodded to Bao. Good technique. Jerk.

There had been several throws and falls exchanged by this time, and Dana must clearly understand the idea of arm-locks and leverage. Amir took a half-second to turn to her and say,
"A moment, please."

The reason why was instantly clear as he shifted positions entirely, gave Bao perhaps a second to realize what was going on, and executed a perfect series of spin-kicks aimed for Bao's chest, forcing the younger vampire back and away, or alternatively to grab Amir's ankle if he could. Either position was probably not where Bao wanted to be, but Amir was fully planning to take light-hearted revenge on his former student for making life difficult.
Celeste 14 years ago
No fuss, no frills. Dana and Amir both didn't waste time with prissy welcomes and such but stayed focused. Cel already started to like them as she settled down a few feet away from where Dana sat.

Assessing each move and counter, it didn't take Celeste long to spot the wrist that the wounded male was subtly favoring. That only made her curious to see if the other vampire would notice, and capitalize on the fact. When she could see him shift his strategy to take the advantage, she nodded with approval.

For a lesson the men were doing a good job, and Celeste wondered just what they would be like when not being restrained for the sake of demonstration. She arched one pierced brow when Amir spoke to them, not sure what he meant but then broke into a wide grin, fangs flashing as she chuckled softly.
Dana 14 years ago
Dana cringed once, when she discovered that Bao was taking advantage of the wrist she'd witnessed Amir covering, confirming her suspicion that it had been injured.

She pushed that knowledge to the back of her mind as she watched the give and take in the fight. The way they used their bodies to block and defend as well as strike and force the other to go on the defensive.

When Amir turned to grin at her, she wasn't certain why, until his smile changed just a little, and the following actions had her chuckling along with her new audience member.
Bao 14 years ago
They had trained together enough that Bao knew full well what Amir was trying to accomplish and did not want to play his game. He probably deserved this, but he didn’t have to like it at all. He returned Amir’s grin with a part amused part irritated one of his own.

He allowed Amir to force him back a pace or two while quickly debating his options. He could attempt to step in and attempt a Heaven and Earth throw, the down side was he would have to be extremely quick and would probably take at least one powerful kick to his body. Alternately, he could try to roll past Amir and would then be able to execute one of a number of different techniques. The disadvantage to the roll was Amir would probably be ready for it. After all, it was very much Bao’s style to try and get out of a tight spot and find as many options as possible.

That settled it, he would try to step into the attack and rely on his solid form to take any hit his maker could lad and hope to surprise Amir and unbalance him.
Amir 14 years ago
In any other situation Amir would consider his own actions fairly underhanded, but Bao was skilled enough and experienced enough that Amir was not exactly the teacher here. Bao didn't need a lesson, he needed a reminder, which Amir was all too happy to assist with.

Bao opted to close in with him, a move that made Amir grin. He shifted his feet, a warning sign if Bao were watching closely, and let the younger vampire grapple with him. Noting that they were still playing dirty, he ignored the wrenching on his left wrist as Bao raised it over their heads and tipped Amir off-balance for this particular throw.

Amir stayed centered, however, and at the point where he should have toppled onto his back he lifted his legs, wrapped them around Bao's waist and, bending nearly backwards, twisted his way out of Bao's hold. Planting both hands on the floor he used all the momentum of Bao's throw against him, levering him up with his legs and over his head.

The drawback to this maneuver was that Amir didn't get to observe the end result, but as he straightened there was a satisfying thump behind him. Crouching, he spun back to face Bao just in case he decided they weren't quite finished.

Watching out of the corner of his eye, he addressed Dana once more.
"As you can see, just because someone is smaller doesn't mean they're weaker. You can do all of this just as well, once you learn how."

Granted, he and Bao were fairly well-matched, size and weight, but Bao's build was far stockier that Amir's which gave the impression of size.
Celeste 14 years ago
Suitably impressed with the manuver Amir had just executed, Celeste applauded lightly. Deciding to stay and enjoy this lesson she reclined back some, her arms stretching out behind her to prop up her torso even as her legs extended out to cross at the ankle. It was somewhat insolent in its casualness. It suited her. Tilting her head to the side as it turned to look towards Dana, she smirked.

"In my experience being smaller is almost always the advantage... you're a smaller target so harder to hit, usually more manuverable and people tend to underestimate you. The only advantage with size is reach and brute strength. But," she shrugged a shoulder slightly to brush that last point aside, "our kind's gifts do make up for it."

Her cool eyes flicked around the three occupants before she remembered the manners her grandparents tried to (literally) beat into her. Rolling forward and leaning up she extended a hand to Dana.

"And hi... I'm Celeste." She nodded slightly to the men, including them in her introduction. The Creole was impressed with herself tonight. She was being all kinds of nice, social and respectful. She should totally pat herself on the back later.
Dana 14 years ago
A small nod was all that she gave Amir, as her brain continued to catalouge all that she had just seen. it had been breathtaking to watch Bao fly over Amir's body to land several feet away. She knew he was unharmed, but had he been human and unprepared...the result of such a throw could have been devestating, especially if a wall were close by.

The woman, however, spoke as she relaxed herself in a most unbecoming manner. Dana enjoyed Celeste's subtle accent, marking it as french of some sort, but not recognizing the origins. She wondered if she was from the french settled regions of America or Africa. It would be interesting to know.

Dana took Celeste's hand with her own, shaking it with the same firmness she was given, as she'd be taught, many, many years ago.

"It is a pleasure to meet another Anantya. I'm Dana ó Ceallaigh." Taking her hand away, she gestured with open hand, palm up to the others. "This is Amir Rashid and Bao Hoang."

With that done she stood in one fluid motion. The small amount of research she'd done, flashed in her head, causing her to bow to the mats before she stepped on them. Crossing to Amir, she smiled as she stopped several feet from him.

"I've a question before we begin." He nodded assent to her, causing her to smile again. "I'm sure this will be answered while we train, but it is a curiosity to me now and if you don't mind answering, then all the better."

A soft chuckle escaped her. "As I watched, I noticed that your hands were not held the same way throughout. What is the significance of the different hand positions? Is there an advantage to having your hand open for one punch, and closed for an almost identical one?"
Bao 14 years ago
He saw it and had a fair idea what Amir was planning, but Bao was simply not fast enough to react. While he’d kept it practice too often it had been with people of lesser skill than Amir. As a result he did get to spend some time air born, however, he did manage to land with some grace and recover quickly. Had it been just the two of them he wouldn’t have let it end there, but with Dana here and it being her lesson he just shook off the throw inclining his head slightly to his maker indicating there would be no retaliation.

As Dana introduced them he again offered a bow to the new arrival, Celeste, and used it as an excuse to better asses her. Somehow he didn’t think the manners came naturally, but at least she was making an effort. He wouldn’t tolerate a lack of manners.

“You have some practice in the martial arts then?”

He asked politely. Depending on how experienced the other woman was it might be beneficial for Dana to have another partner.

Bao approved of Dana’s bow as she joined them on the mats. The question, however, she took as being addressed to his maker and therefore he refrained from answering.
Amir 14 years ago
Amir noted Bao's nod and concealed his relief under his normal stone-faced expression. The cuts on his back burned and his wrist was threatening to snap again. He needed to feed once more tonight, maybe twice, before regenerating the wounds burned through his previous meal and left him feeling cranky.

As Celeste introduced herself, her name turned a little light bulb on for Amir, and he realized where he'd heard of her.

"Celeste. Of the D'Espionnes," he said, more a statement that question. "Nice to meet you."

Turning his attention back to Dana, Amir listened to her question and nodded. It was a good observation.

"Generally, you will close your fist to punch when you're looking for an accurate, sharp attack. An open hand is good when you're aiming to break a bone, dislocate a shoulder, snap some ribs. Punches work for kidney shots, diaphragms, things like that."

He sank into silence and waited for Celeste to address Bao's question to her. In the meantime, he did his best to still the part of his mind that was insisting he go find himself a blood supply
now. It was a weakness of his, but he liked to stay well-fed. Subira called it obsessive. He called it hungry. As he had reminded Dana many nights ago, they all had their little quirks. This was one of his, and it was exacerbated by his current injuries.
Celeste 14 years ago
Reclining back after shaking Dana's hand, Celeste let her head lean to the side as she looked up at the exchange on the mats. It was all very proper and formal. It reminded her of her youth training with her various instructors. Always so respectful, always so stiff. Ehh, she supposed amongst a society as long lived as vampires it must come honestly to be so archaic. But, if she let herself admit it, she did enjoy it. However, she had an appearance to keep up.

When Amir recognized her she simply smiled and nodded to show he was correct. Ironically enough his name was tugging at some memory but she couldn't place it instantly. Inside her mental wheels were spinning as she tried to piece together how the man, who Cel was positive she'd never met, had known who she was. By just her first name and appearance. Which meant Gustav was most likely discussing his "pawns" with someone else. It wasn't too unbelievable for him to. She'd been standing dutifully in the shadows at many a meeting her Sire attended and had a good idea what the man was capable of. Thinking of those she remembered the conversation where Amir's name had come up, or rather his reputation, and she swung her gaze back to him blinking once. Interesting, indeed.

Slightly distracted by her own thoughts, Celeste was glad for the explanation Amir gave Dana to cover her pause in answering the other man's query. Seemingly waiting until the lesson was finished she turned her gaze to Bao and spoke up after a few seconds pause.

"Oui... I have a good deal of practice in it." She gave him a toothy smile. "Been trained to fight since I could walk, and in several forms."

Cel left it at that. No reason to extend more information than wanted, or needed. She certainly wasn't going to get all cocky and offer to step in and show Dana a thing or two, even though she was a more accurate size to use as an example.
Dana 14 years ago
Amir's explanation made perfect sense and she knew he would demonstrate more as they progressed in these lessons. For now she was content with what he shared with her.

It seemed to Dana, that Amir knew, or knew of everyone in the clan. Was that even possible? Or had the D'Espionne done something notorious enough that they were simply well known for it?

It didn't particularly matter really, not in the grand scheme of things, and if she cared to she could always find out later.

Ready to move on, Dana moved her body into a fighting stance, it felt wrong to her, until she rotated her toe to point toward her target. It was very similar to how one would stand for fencing, except that the arms were much closer to the body. Comfortable with how she was supposed to stand, she straightened, waiting for Amir.
Bao 14 years ago
Bao had a sneaking suspicion that Amir was hurt more than he was letting on. However, he also knew his maker well enough to know that pointing this out or saying anything would not be appreciated. If they had a moment alone after the practice session he would check to see if his services were needed. Although, he doubted they would be. Amir wasn't bed ridden, just rather banged up.

The D'Espionne girl amused him slightly. He liked the fact that she was confidant enough not to elaborate.

"Excellent. Would you care to practice as well or are you simply observing?"Â?

He wouldn't put it past her to be sizing the three of them up. In fact, he would have been disappointed if she hadn't.

Seeing that Dana was ready to try some things out first hand he raised an eyebrow at Amir. He would be happy to step in and be Dana's target if Amir didn't want to strain or re-damage any thing. It would also let Amir more accurately observe Dana's movements.
Amir 14 years ago
Amir answered Bao's unspoken question with an almost invisible shake of his head. He wasn't worried; by the time he and Dana got around to really practicing, he would step aside and observe while Bao partnered her. Until then it was a matter of showing her the beginning steps.

As Bao and celeste had their side conversation, Amir began to walk Dana slowly through the basics. First he showed her how to properly hold her hand fr a knifehand strike, and how to make a correct fist as well for thrusts. They worked a combination of low, middle, and high trusts and cuts. After that they began to work on grabs.

When Amir was satisfied with what he saw, he began to show Dana the first of her
kata. He slowly demonstrated to her how to use his arm as leverage, pressuring his wrist (the right one, thank you) and using both leverage and pressure to force him to the ground. They switched roles several times so she could experience it as well. Getting to that point only took her about fifteen minutes.

"You're a fast learner," Amir said. "This will be fun."
Celeste 14 years ago
Her pale blue eyes ran up and down Bao briefly before she shrugged and replied simply, "I could go for either." Celeste paused, obviously contemplating that response then ammended it. "Well I mean it could be fun to practice with new people.. it's easy to get in a rut when you're always with the same people, oui?" That decided things, so she rolled up onto her feet and stood. The Creole laced her fingers together before stretching her arms up above her head, palms facing the ceiling as she raised up onto the balls of her feet. Relaxing and dropping her arms to her side as she walked onto the mat, pausing for the briefest of bows in an almost mocking manner of Dana's earlier motion before padding onto them. There was genuine respect and habit hidden in there but she couldnt help it, she just liked to be a bitch sometimes. Err... most of the time. Ok ok... all of the time.

Her attention was split between the duo practicing and Bao. Her curiosity was piqued with Amir and Cel studied what she could about him as she walked around the area to break off a slight distance away from the others. Her moves and kata would be more advanced than the ones Dana was being shown so she saw no reason to distract the woman overly. Turning her head to look at Bao, she quirked one eyebrow in query, wondering if he wanted to interact or if she would be working solo.
Dana 14 years ago
Dana watched every move Amir made, and followed his demonstration and instruction exactly. The movements he asked her body to make were not wholly unfamiliar, as she had spent a great deal of time in her life devoted to dance, sword play and other various forms of body movement.

It caused her great satisfaction for Amir to compliment her and no little pride that she impressed him with her ability to learn quickly. She grinned at him.
"Thank you."

Her grin curled up a bit more, as she took what she learned and swiftly had her teacher on his back. She was certain he could have kept her from doing so, but was glad he went along anyway. "I'd say it already is fun."

She was very tempted to kiss him just then, but the fact that this was a teaching situation and they had an audience, had her bouncing up to land lightly on the balls of her feet before offering a hand to Amir. He could chose to let her help him up or not. Though if he did, she had plans to put him on his back again.
Bao 14 years ago
His own imperceptible nod answered his maker. That suited him and would give him a chance to gauge Celeste.

She moved well enough, although the limited bow concerned him. Being very much a formal and polite person Bao didn’t appreciate skimping on things that were so simple. Still at least she had made some effort.

“He will let me know when they need me.”

She seemed to be moving away from Amir and Celeste he approved and continued to separate them. It made sense to start with a kata and then work on some sparing. Besides sparing would only distract Dana.

He bowed to her slightly and started to perform one of the more advanced katas.
