Shay who?

As was becoming somewhat of a ritual, Shay slipped from bed, and padded barefoot into
her kitchen. Removing a bag of blood from the refrigerator, she sat it on a towel that
was folded on the counter. Yawning, then stretching, she walked to the bathroom, and
turned on the shower. The gnawing in her stomach was also becoming familiar, but
thankfully not near as impatient as it had been those first few days.

Once the water was the correct temperature, Shay slipped under the forceful spray, and
began to bathe. She had yet to buy much in the way of clothing, and having no need of
modesty, slept nude. It was not only practical, but economical cutting down on the need
for laundry as well.

As she lathered up her skin and hair, she again gave some attention to thinking about
what had transpired over the past few days. Each morning she hoped she might glimpse a
small bit of her past, and each morning she was disappointed. But each disappointment
seemed less and less so, as she got used to the fact that until she awoke on the couch
at Ginnies, she just hadn't existed. At least not as she now was.

Her mood wasn't one of sadness though. Things were as they were, and doing less than
accepting her life would accomplish nothing but to make her life less than what it was.
Since it was about as void as it could be now, she didn't want that.

As she began toweling off, Shay shook her head, and those thoughts away. It was hard
not to think about such things, but being practical seemed important to her. So, when
she found her mind wandering she made herself refocus on things that she felt would be
more beneficial to her, and her life now.

Running a comb through her wet hair, pulling snarl after snarl out, she made a decision.
Over the course of the past few days, most decisions had been joint ventures with input
from either Ginnie, Alec, or Dayle. But with the hassle of taking care of so much hair
being a total bother, Shay decided today she was going to get it cut off! Putting it up
into a pony tail or bun was okay, but that didn't solve the time and trouble necessary
to just wash it. Cutting it off would remove one less thing to waste time over every
morning, and right now Shay was all for making her life as simple as possible. At least
until there was less of it for her to relearn.

Still somewhat peeved for having to 'check in' with her keepers, she knew they were only
asking her to do so for her own protection. That knowledge didn't make her feel any
more adult unfortunately.

Once dressed she fed, and then found her cell phone. It was programmed with Ginnie,
Alec, and Dayle in the first three speed dial slots, so she pressed the number three and
waited for an answer. She longed for the days when she could just go outside on her
own, and do whatever it was that piqued her fancy, but for now she would adhere to the
'rules'...and they would just have to deal with the grumblings that came along with
her.

"Dayle? Dayle, it's Shay, please pick up."

Ginnie had heard the music go up behind Dayle's voice and she almost changed her mind, but the phone went dead in her ear. She took it down and frowned at the little black gadget. Sighing softly, she shoved the thing into her pocket and returned to the living room. She picked up her purse and coat and headed back out. She road the elevator to the Merc floor of the garage, and checked out a truck. She was going to need more room for the products of this excursion than her car could provide.

Again it took a great deal of effort on Shay's part, to listen and truly hear what Dayle was saying. She giggled at the thought of opening the sunroof, and standing up through it, to feel the wind in her face. However, she didn't quite think she could manage such a feat, what with Dayle sitting so close. So instead she opened the window in her door and stuck her face into the wind.

"Ohhhh!!! This feels so great!!" Shay yelled into the wind, unaware if Dayle could hear her or not. She got the feeling that Dayle wasn't altogether too pleased with the way Shay was acting, but because the pretty blond didn't censure Shay, the way she imagined Ginnie might, Shay tended not to worry.

After a few minutes, the novelty wore off, and Shay returned to her seat, inside the car.

"Yes, I suppose I will have to come face to face with Ginnie at some point tonight, and atone. But maybe after a bit more time passes, and she sees me return to the fold unharmed, she'll be less critical."

Nodding in agreement, Shay had no desire for any kind of lesson at the moment, and biology seemed like the kind of thing that would be low on her list even under the best circumstances. She tried, instead, to sit as still as she could, but eventually gave in and began moving her arms, legs, and mouth to the music once again.

Wondering when exactly Shay was going to slow down just a little, Dayle kept herself at just under the speed limit; no sense attracting attention any more than the blonde woman hanging out the window was capable of doing.

Out of the corner of her eye, from a parking lot on the opposite side of a building they'd just passed, Dayle saw a white car pull out and turn onto the street. Thankfully, Shay chose just that moment to climb back into the car, and they turned down the last street towards the nature preserve. Dayle had full intentions to head there; she thought though that they should do so when...

The car behind them turned off; either it wasn't a police vehicle or it wasn't as interested in their boring little Beetle after the blonde beside her backed her behind into the bucket seat.
"Do you want to go to the park right now? Or do you want to drive around more? I think you look like you should get out of the car and get rid of some energy."

Maybe it was that adult part of Shay that reacted, but also aware of the the other cars around them, and how her actions might draw unwarranted attention. This, when coupled with the dissipating novelty, gave Shay all the reason she needed to overcome her current inner child.

However, being an adult, or having some aspects of one, didn't provide Shay with the automatic ability to make a decision.

"Drive around...run through the park...Hear my voice where you are, Take a train, steal a car, Hop a freight, grab a star, come back to me..." From out of nowhere the words to a song sprang from Shay's lips, and she belted it out, effectively squelching whatever was playing on the radio.

"Catch a plane, catch a breeze, On your hands, on your knees, Swim or fly, only please, come back to meeeeeeeeeeeeee..." And then seeing how absolutely silly she must look and sound, Shay dissolved into soft giggles.

Dayle had a hard time suppressing a fit of giggles as she pulled into a parking space at the Park's lot. She didn't recognize if it was an actual song, or if Shay had made it up... Perhaps if she made it up, she could look forward to a future career as a greeting card writer?
