Sobering Up (attn Claire, Evans)

On her feet once more now that they were out on the side walk, Nova swaggered awkwardly next to Kyle as they walked away from the museum, pausing to wait at the crosswalk to go to the café. Standing still should have been easier than walking but for some reason she felt just as teetery as ever. Somehow her earbuds had gotten loose again, though her Ipod remained firmly clipped to her belt, and they dangled at her knees, still blaring persistently.

'Drunk as a skunk,' she mused in the philosophical way of one who was, indeed, very drunk. 'But skunks aren't drunk. Why do people say that? Just because it rhymes? Stupid.'

Even as intoxicated as she was, she still felt that familiar 'something's wrong' buzzing while she watched the cars go by, though she could not place it. No cops...no roving gangs...hardly anyone walking the street at all. Her head was starting to ache now; too much thinking, she reckoned, trying to see things that maybe weren't even there.

Then she felt a brush against her shoulder, the swift movement of air going in the opposite direction, and stumbled, turning around.

"Where's the fire lady?"Â?

She frowned when she realized she was talking to shadows, and tripped over her own feet trying to look straight again, bumping heavily into Kyle as they made their way to the café and grabbing his arm to steady herself. Fast or blended? Eh, fuck it, she was gone now, though how Nova was certain she'd seen a woman she couldn't say. Already mostly forgetting the entire incident, she raised her voice to reach ahead to Claire, who was leading the way.

"You been to this coffee shop before?"Â?

/ooc Permission to notice a certain mysterious blending woman walking by. I did assume Claire was continuing to lead, if not I can edit :X.

Claire considered Kyle's statement on the police and figured that the clans would know the truth eventually one way or the other. After all, they were some of the people 'greasing' the hands of the police. There would be Nightsmen with abilities such as tracking and psychometry going over the place with a fine toothed comb at the first available opportunity, she'd imagine.

"I am sure the public will demand some sort of reason...."

She coughed and quickly took up her coffee cup at the bold mention of needing something, sex and footsie being played under the table. Really! Claire wondered if Mr Evans hadn't had something to lower his speaking inhibitions as well. Perhaps he was simply better at holding his liquor? Whatever the case, it would seem that he and Nova were quite well acquainted, as if the toting her over to the cafe like a sack of potatoes hadn't given that away, or were at least not adverse to becoming so.

It was a situation that would be best if it did not involve her. She smiled at them both and said.

“Ah, well I believe that is my cue to leave. It has been a most entertaining evening.”

Standing up, she pushed in the chair, but paused in the collection of her cup at Kyle's question. Nosey little sod wasn't he? Reporter, indeed. She was surprised at least one of them had not asked sooner and as always had a ready answer.

“Oh, It is for a play that a social group of mine is performing. I was looking up some costume references from some of the paintings in the museum but I got bored and wandered over into the modern art section.”

Picking up her tea, she smiled at them before heading out.

“Good night to you both.”

Nova gave Kyle a sharp kick that was half jerky surprise at the sudden and dramatic shift in conversation…and half completely intentional under-the-table damage dealing. Jackass. Sexy jackass, but still.

‘And yet, you still want to jump him.’

“How’d you know it was my foot?”, she deadpanned, with a mischievous wink in Claire’s direction. “And hey, it’s a foot…what can you do…” With that she gave an attempt at an airy wave, which was made more weighty by the fact that she still had her coffee cup in one hand. Fortunately the hot coffee only spilled on her hand and not her shirt; that would have been a bummer as the trans am tee she was currently sporting was well broken in. Even so, she gave a whiney and extended ‘owwwww’ before setting the cup down. By that point, Claire was leaving, explaining her outfit on the way out. Nova hollered a well meaning ‘Byyyyyeeee nicemeetingyou!’ before turning back to Kyle.

“Good job, sporto!” Breaking into giggles because she had, after all, just called her…guy there was a thing with…’sporto’, she leaned heavily on Kyle’s shoulder. “Let’s say we ditch this popsicle stand too…you had a good idea just then…

Kyle grinned and stood as Claire made her get away. Smoothing his pants down at the thighs, he wished her a pleasant evening.

'Nice meeting you, Claire.'

Looking back at Nova, he laughed as his drunken vampire chick propositioned him.

'You're dirty. I love it.'

Standing, Kyle hoisted Nova back over his shoulder and smacked her on the butt with his free hand. 'Ok so your hole in the ground or mine?'

Nova wasn’t really surprised at Kyle’s shameless, not to mention remorseless, reaction to Claire’s leaving; it could all be summed up in one three letter word that started with ‘m’ and ended with ‘n’. And rhymed with ‘ten’. And…okay the word was ‘men’, and she told her inner monologue to drop it. Instead, with an equal lack of shame she proclaimed that she was, in fact, “Filthy to the core!”

Laughing as she dropped the mostly empty cup on the table, she grabbed onto Kyle for balance as she was hoisted once again into the air.

“Hey! Let’s remember I can reach your ass just as easy as you can reach mine!”

She gave him a halfhearted smack in both demonstration and retribution.

“Hee hee, you don’t –have- a hole in the ground. You have a hole in the…sky…or something. –I- have a hole in the ground.” Trying to give an upside down nod for emphasis, she added: “My place – ‘supposed to go home.”
