Socially antisocial

Trying not to curl his lip at the numerous fake people gaily chatting and smiling Cyrus made his way to the garden. Hopefully he had not bared his fangs at the mayor, but he really did not care. The useless being was a puppet of Anantya he had heard so it would not have been a huge surprise. Attending these functions was always a chore for one expected people to mingle with those they despised and not cause a scuffle. Had he been alone he would have held down the bar for the durration.

"Sorry, I am not normally a social creature. We can go back and find seats before dinner is served."

It was slightly belated that he realized he had not really given Fallon much choice. Vowing to only spend a few minutes outside and then do whatever she wanted for the evening.

The garden area was nicely manicured. Though the tidy lawn and small trees made him curl a lip in disgust. Why did people think that homes needed new trees instead of the hundreds of years old ones that had been living on the property prior to the homeowner or constructor building there? It made him wish to claw the nicely painted building next to the pool. Flexing his fingers he tried to keep the cat at bay for the evening.

Turning to Fallon he appologised with a deep bow of his head.
"I wish I was better company."

He admired the beautiful woman beside him as they made their way to the dance floor. Once there they flowed together with just a few bumps which made it all the more enjoyable. Who wouldnt want to accidentally move completely into a beautiful woman's personal space and hold her close?

At her comment about Anantya he could only agree.
"I believe it is the best. What would be the point belonging to one that was second best. Of course I could just think it is the best because it suits me so well or because of the beautiful women in it."

The music was standard and not anything Cyrus would have picked out to dance to personally. But it allowed them to move together on the floor. If nothing else it challenged his creativity in staying very close to her while still dancing.

"I am sure others are here. Though, did I mention my wild ways and how I rarely spend time with others? I will introduce you to those that I spot."

Chuckling at himself he vowed to try for her benefit. "Let me just mention what an amazing dancer you are, as well as the most beautiful woman here."

"Now you are just flattering me, and there's really no need, you know. You had me back when you said I breached your defenses."

Fallon had one hand in Cyrus' and the other arm she rested on his shoulder. As they danced, and talked she softly touched along places on his face. She touched the piercings in his eyebrow, the one in his nose...his lip. Then thinking she was being too intimate, she laid her head on his shoulder, and kept her gaze on the side of his face.

"Have you had those for hundreds of years? Has the fad of today's youth just been revisited again, after all this time?"

Fallon's ears were pierced, once, which she had done in college. She had sometimes thought about having something else pierced, as well as a tattoo, but just never had money or opportunity to do either. Now she knew she was out of luck. But she liked the way they looked on Cyrus, they gave him a rakish air.

When he brought up his desire to be alone again, Fallon had to wonder if that was something he really did value, and had for so long, how did he think it would work out now, if she became a large part of his life. Would time enable him to get used to that...was this what he needed her patience for?

"Yes, you did mention your wild ways...and I of course believe you, but you 'must' know one or two of your clan...?"

Besides, anyone who could show a complete stranger such understanding, and kindness, just doesn't seem the type to have had so little interaction with the people. You may not want to be around people, but even your work isn't something you can do totally alone."

His short laugh made her think he had been teasing her, and now she wasn't sure what to believe. Maybe he was moody, and only suffered spurts of need for isolation.

"I must be boring you with all my questions."

If he was truly someone who had lived so long as a loner, would he tire of her company after a while?

Patience...the man had asked for patience. If she wanted him badly enough, she would grant him that small request. Whatever the outcome, she would forever be better off for having spent this small bit of time with him. She would make that be enough.

Holding Fallon felt nice and he especially enjoyed her hands gently running over his face. "They were a lark, brought on by a thusly pierced foreigner's capture somewhere in the empire. By the time it trickled to our small tribe most of the youth pierced anything. I had only done half, which was incredibly painful and prone to cause diseases when a young girl died due to hers. So I stopped and had intended to remove them but Temutai returned and havoc ensued."

"Throughout the years I have removed the jewelry and updated it with the times. It comes and goes actually. Thankfully I am able to fit in with the youth of today with it."

Hopefully she realized that things that possibly dated her would come back around. Though if she was lucky things would be convenient, like a clean shaven face for him or legs for her. That seemed to be the current cultureal norm here.

The fear that Fallon would reject him if she found out just how solitary and wild he was caused him to drop the subject. Never before had he worried what others, not elders of the clan, thought of what he did. His businesses had been set up with the proper people in place that he was rarely needed. The clan ran just fine without him being a daily participant. Even the leopard group he ran with probably did just as fine without his presence. It looked like he had quite a bit of social politeness to acquire. Perhaps she would find enough patience to allow him time to learn the niceties.

"There must be several clanmates here, not all mingle though. Perhaps we can find a table with some to enjoy dinner with."

Temutai? Had she heard that name before? He had told her some of his history, but she wasn't sure if it had included that name. But hearing the person created havoc for Cyrus, she couldn't imagine he was a good part of Cyrus' life. So she made a mental note to ask him more about him, but later.

"Are these, all of your piercings?"

The question was blatantly personal, and made Fallon blush to ask it, but she was curious.

Continuing to gaze at him, she nodded when he admitted to fitting in, though a bit perplexed at the need, if he didn't want to be around people. Then again, there were a lot of times he had no choice.

"So the youth of today are more accepting of you? Is that where you feed, most of the time?"

Dancing so close together, and having her head resting on his shoulder, Fallon felt intimate enough to talk about such things without risking being overheard. She had no idea who all was at this ball, but assumed not all were vampire. She would need to look around more closely later, and see if she recognized anyone.

Getting back to the man in her arms, she smiled. Funny how he could make her feel so safe, and yet...not. It was an exciting sensation, and had turned into an exciting night for her.

"If 'you' want, I'll be happy sitting across from you all night, wherever that is."

The curiosity she showed must be a normal thing for women of today. He found it enjoyable as she sounded truely interested in him and his life. The look he gave her was lightly predatory and full of teasing heat. "There are more, but perhaps you dont want me to describe them all in great detail here."

His feeding habits were irregular, partly HoP and partly contacts made in the city. The habit of feeding from game was still viable as well, he just went farther away so as not to impose upon the Manor's deer population. "Well, its versatile. I can fit in with those at the House of Pain or take the hoops out and blend with others. And since they dont transfer to fur, I only notice them part of the time."

The song ended and he placed a gentle kiss on her cheek. Regretfully unwinding himself from her, Cyrus placed her hand in the crook of his arm and led her off the dance floor.

"I am sure we can find someone to mingle with so I dont bore you too much."

No, she didn't think it would be wise of him to tell her where his other piercings were. If she were lucky, she might get the opportunity to find them on her own.

She had a brief flashback to a time when Ted had almost forced her to get piercings. The places where he had intended for her to be marked were none that would have been visible now either, but Fallon knew Ted only wanted them as a means of new tortures. It was as if just hitting and slapping her was losing its appeal, and he was searching for new ways to cause her pain. How she eluded him for so long, and avoided that experience was still a small mystery to her.

But now...now that she was not living in fear of his pain, Fallon let the idea of having a special piercing play through her mind for a bit. She knew it was no longer practical...in her new life, those things didn't work, or she supposed.

"Sorry? Fur?"

Thinking as she had, she almost didn't catch what Cyrus said.

"When you change...what happens to your clothes? Do they just...fall off?"

That wouldn't be half bad going in, but obviously coming out could lead to some interesting moments. Fallon had been with Cyrus when he had changed once, but she hadn't seen the process, and had actually gone into a mild shock at the time, so when he changed back, she remembered little.

"Do you remember the first time you changed...how was that? Were you surprised, or did you know it was going to happen, somehow?"

They were walking off the dance floor now, and Cyrus looked like he might be looking for somewhere else to sit...somewhere there were other people. Fallon was suddenly afraid that he was looking for somewhere to stash her, while he went off alone again.

She couldn't voice her displeasure at the thought, not when she knew just how much he valued being alone now. Just as she had given to him in the garden, she would give to him now, only space this time, instead of blood.

She looked around the room now herself, to see if she might recognize anyone.

"Oh look, there's Addison at the bar. He's a funny man Cyrus."

And she meant funny in an endearing way, not that he seemed clownish to her. Fallon didn't recognize the woman Addison was talking to, but the man...PANOS!

Fallon grabbed onto Cyrus' hand instinctively, as if his touch would erase the sight in front of her. Unfortunately, it didn't, but she immediately felt less threatened by reminding herself who she was with.

She lessened her grip on Cyrus but her eyes remained on Panos, hoping that he wouldn't see her...and that he would.

Unsurprised that she had questions about shifting since he had hundreds even after he could shift. He answered them in a low voice but clearly and to the best of his knowledge. "Its like changing into an entirely different being. All the trappings of this one, disappear while in the other. Though they come with, just not visibly. So I dont end up naked upon changing back. I do hope you are fond of felines, because honestly I spend a lot of time in that skin."

Finding out now that she was allergic to him would be distressing to say the least. "The first time I changed was unexpected, even though I had been living with the leopards for a while. I was already wild and untamed the change just was a visible demonstration of that. Its a powerful thing, to suddenly be wrought with instincts a human doesnt normally deal with. Without guidance I dealt with it over time. I am sure those with a mentor would have adapted faster."

He had scanned the bar area, looking for clanmates, none looked familiar unfortunately. Though the arresting woman seemed to tweak at his memory but without placement. In the seating area the swarm of humanity was thick. He had just picked out Thaddeus Grey seated at a table when Fallon spoke about someone at the bar.

Unexpectedly she gripped his hand tightly. Looking down at her puzzled he found her gazing with at a man at the bar. He tried to interperate her expression, but only could really think that fear was waging with something else.
"Someone you know?"

He stopped them near the edge of the dancing area, near a large indoor tree that would help him feel safe as well as giving Fallon someplace to hide should she feel the need.

She wasn't sure if he picked up on her tension, or just hadn't heard clearly when she mentioned Addison's name. So she wasn't sure if she could get away with repeating the information on Addison, and expanding on it a little, or if she should tell him who the other man was.

She really didn't want to spoil the evening, and being that she wasn't sure what Cyrus would do about Panos, having him in such close proximity, she worried with the decision.

It was nice of him to move her out of harms way, such as it was, but Fallon's fear wasn't for herself. She was afraid for Cyrus. Panos was a wild cannon, and she feared if ignited, he had the ability to destroy everything in his path, including Cyrus.

"Addison? I met him in the library with Aishe a few nights ago. He's...quirky."

Choosing the least scary path for now, Fallon gave a little more information about Addison, and then began looking elsewhere, hoping Cyrus might find an acquaintance to say hello to. She'd keep tabs on Panos as long as she could, and try to keep Cyrus as far away from him as possible.
Cyrus 18 years ago
Quirky made her grip his hand like a lifesaver to a drownding victim? Odd. This made him avoid the bar, just in hopes of putting Fallon at ease. Gently patting her hand he turned towards where he had spotted his clanmate earlier.

"Lets go make introductions to Thaddeus at his table. He is a clanmate."
Fallon 18 years ago
Unaware she had just relaxed her entire body, and even released a sigh of relief, Fallon nodded with a smile.

"I would like that very much."

And hand in hand, she followed him where he led her.

(Fallon and Cyrus out)
